A feel-good, well written, quick and fun read that has elements that almost anyone could relate to: financial pressures, personality conflicts, competitive sports and overcoming adversity.

Favourite part was the last line of the acknowledgments: thanks to "anyone that has ever shovelled snow off an outdoor rink so kids could play hockey". Roger that!

Paul would love to play hockey with the local team – he practices
nearly daily when he can on a makeshift outdoor rink – but he
lacks the funds for the team registration and the costly hockey
equipment – padding and a good stick and helmet.

He lives with his mom – his mom and dad divorced when he was
very small – and his dad returned to Trinidad; his mom has a
new job, but since she is the newbie, she has weird hours – and
the pay isn’t good enough yet to afford extras.

Giving this 5 stars as my 10-12 year old self would have really enjoyed this book. I especially enjoyed the relationship building aspects of the book.
