I really hoped for fun when it comes to this book, and it did deliver!!!
I love the found family trope, and I was extremely happy to find it in this book. It’s always so moving to see main characters getting the love they have always deserved.
When it comes to the main characters, I really liked both. Willow was such a strong girl, despite all the things that her dad did to her. Kaelen bought me with how soft he was for Willow, being pretty commanding to his people at the same time. The contrast was great. I wasn’t bothered by the insta love, that’s ov ffs, you need all the insta love you can have!!!
The secondary characters were great too. I can’t wait for the next book!!! The author has been hinting at the MMF romance (Kaelen’s brother Aidan, his boyfriend Torin, and Willow’s bestie Sam), so I’ll be looking forward to it.
I could clearly tell that the author wrote some ov on ao3, because yes, this is exactly what I wanted!!! Nesting was written perfectly, loved everything about heats, bonding, knotting, purring, alpha/omega used so often! Every aspect of omegaverse was perfect. No notes.👌🏼
Why not 5 stars? The book plot wise felt a bit similar to the author’s debut. I’m not saying that everything was repeated, but some of the plot points appeared in both, just in a different setting.
I also didn’t like certain things I’ve already mentioned and quoted at the beginning of my reading (go see my reading activity). Please, for the love of god, do not mention that the mmc had plenty of sex with omegas, betas, and even an alpha. Just no. I also wanted to know how long it has been for him, and I didn’t find that info anywhere. Please, make sure the fmc enjoys her previous sex life (because I wasn’t sure if she did), do not make fmcs lives miserable, they deserve all the best. I am happy that at least she had some experience lol, I can really hope it was great. Am I over dramatic? Probably, but I do not care.
Besides that? I loved everything.

Did I expect this to be great? No. Did I expect to want to skim most of it because I felt just bleh? Also no. Spoilers.
Alright friends. Kindle unlimited as most of have realized is filled with independent authors and AI garbage. Their business model leads to lengthy books because of the money per page read system and often authors crank books out at a fast pace to get more revenue. Now I'm not hating on authors wanting the money I just long for a time when editing and quality of work trumped it. What do I mean?
Well for this book it's the repetition. An editor on a deep through may notice how many times the term "swiped my teeth over my canines" was used. I am going to go out on a limb and say over 10. They may also say hey it's a little inconsistent for our main character to be so annoying in her head but not really do anything about it. Aside from that they may ask simple questions like "how do you think these two chapters flow together?" Or "how does Sam know how kaelen looks at Willow if not only have they never met, but Sam hasn't seen them together?". There are a lot of inconsistencies like that, that in all honesty a really good editor would catch.
Now onto our basics. This book was kind of boring. The plot is pretty fun of the mill mafia and political families that's been done and done better many times before. I thought maybe the omegaverse would change it a little and it did, just not enough to make the storyline that great.

Kaelen: A Dark Mafia Omegaverse by Michelle Love is a dark steamy Omegaverse Romance. I had the opportunity to read the book before it was published.
When Willow’s father sales her to Kaelen Finnegan (head of the Irish Mob) in a political move that will secure the election for him, she believes that her terrible life will get even worse. She expected an Alpha monster, but what she got was far better than she could have ever imagined. Kaelen is a ruthlessly brutal powerful Alpha who runs the Irish Mob. He sees the way that Willows father treated her and decides that he will be keeping that Omega.
I loved the way that Michelle Love took the organized crime world and blended it with the Omegaverse. It made for a very intriguing read. I loved the book and would recommend it to readers who are wanting a new take on the Mafia Romance genre of books. This was a beautifully written Omegaverse Romance!

My first mafia dark romance AND omegaverse and I had a great time! Michelle created a place that I felt easy to understand and follow as a newbie to omegaverse. I’d always attributed them to be shifters but these are not, though still have animalistic attributes such as knotting, heats, scenting, and perfuming. I found the hierarchy of alpha, omega, and betas intriguing!
We follow a dual POV from our FMC, Willow, who has just been sold to the Butcher of Boston and alpha of the Irish mafia, and our MMC, Kaelen, who is said butcher and alpha. Willow has never experienced a positive relationship between an alpha and an omega, so when she drops into the hands of the most dangerous one in Boston, it’s a shock to learn that he not only rescued her from her abusive father, but also cherishes omegas & women. From here the beginning of a love that seems fated blooms… until they find out Willow has instead been gifted to the Italian mafia as his wife. Through their cunning, they hope to find freedom, but when Willow gets kidnapped… Kaelen no longer worries about starting a war between the mobs because he will burn the entire world down for his omega.
Kaelen is a soft for only her morally black MMC who is devoted almost instantly to healing and caring for Willow, who has been sheltered and abused alongside her ailing mother. Willow experiences lots of growth through these pages and goes from being the victim to her own hero. You get lots of yearning, spice, and murderously loyal found family. Oh! And animal rescue! I had a great time in this dark, medium stakes read.

Plot: 3/5 • Spice: 3/5 ➡️➡️➡️ It’s not that I didnt like this. It was just that this was 10000% predictable. It’s like every other mafia romance. Just add a little omegaverse to the situation and there you have it.

I absolutely LOVED this book!! It was the perfect combination of sweet, spicy, and emotional. The MC’s; Kaelen and Willow are perfect in every way. I think this is the first omegaverse book that I’ve read where there is not a pack but just an alpha and an omega and I thought the dynamic was great. We still got that “found family” trope and the mafia aspect added to that even more.
I’m not sure if there is an audiobook for this or not but I need one!! Kaelen had me giggling and kicking my feet. I would also love a spin off of interconnected standalones for the brother and friend.

Overall, this book was satisfying, logical and easy to read. I enjoyed my time with this world, and built an acceptable connection to its characters.
Plot and development: this book started strong, and finished on a high. It remained consistent throughout, developing the storyline and building to the conclusion that im pretty sure everyone saw coming. But that’s not a bad thing, it wasn’t meant to be overly complicated, filled with complexities and twists. It was a very pleasant read and would definitely be suitable for those who are a fan of the omegaverse dynamics, with a light grey MMC.
Characters:
Our FMC, Willow, is a fiercely independent woman whose strength changes and develops throughout. I love that her character is consistent, and instead relies on personal growth throughout, rather than experiencing a personality shift. She begins to embrace who she is, which in tern compliments her foundation. A pleasant FMC within the omega-verse.
Our MMC, Kaelen, is very much the same regarding development and growth. He is consistent with his opinions and actions, but instead of doing a 180 whiplash when Willow enters, he instead embraces it and finds ways to incorporate her and their situation into his life. Another pleasant change when compared to other omega-verse MMCs.
The spice is pretty consistent from about the half way point, and it’s definitely spicy. But it’s good spice 🌶️🔥
The only reason I didn’t rank this higher is that I felt there was more it could have given. I wanted more story, more development and more involvement. Perhaps I just prefer a darker tone to my literature, but I felt this book had all the solid foundations to really delve into the darker side of omega-verse and mafia romances, but came away feeling more contemporary. But again, perhaps that’s just me and I read too much dark stuff 😂
I’d definitely recommend for those who are fans of the genre who want a solid book to dig into. It’s a solid one and I’m glad I had the opportunity to read it. I’d like to read more of Michelle Love’s work, as her writing style is very approachable and pleasant!

Omegaverse is easily one of my favorite genres. Whenever I fall into a reading slump, I almost always reach for an omegaverse book, and Kaelen: A Dark Mafia Omegaverse ended up being one of those comfort reads for me.
I usually gravitate toward why choose omegaverse stories, so picking up an MF one was slightly outside my norm. Still, I genuinely enjoyed this book. Kaelen and Willow work surprisingly well together as a couple. They both carry their own flaws, and while those flaws are not perfectly complementary, they feel realistic. Their relationship is not built on perfection but on mutual understanding and affection, which made them engaging to read.
The dark omegaverse elements added an extra layer of enjoyment for me. The mafia setting, combined with the darker tone, suited the story well and kept it entertaining without feeling unnecessarily heavy.
If I had to point out one drawback, it would be the pacing at the beginning. Things moved a little too fast, and some chapters felt slightly disjointed, which briefly pulled me out of the story. This was the only aspect that truly bothered me.

This book had me locked in from the first chapter and did not let go. If you love a dark, possessive alpha with a soft spot only for her… Kaelen is exactly that man. Ruthless on the outside, but when it comes to Willow? Completely gone for her in the best way.

Kaelen is the Butcher of Boston and also a mafia leader. So when he is presented with the woman who caught his attention previously he is quick to ensure she doesn't leave again. Though he isn't will to bargain with her like he father wants. He knows she is his but he will have to work for her to trust him.
Willow has had a rough life at the hands of her father. When she is taken to a meeting with her father she never expected he wanted to barter her away. She just wants to enjoy her life and see her mother healthy. Now she is at the hands of a stranger. Her Omega says he is hers but everything else screams no.
The story was okay though I felt like some of it was drawn out or unnecessary. I absolutely adore Willow and the animals. Her and the puppy were freaking adorable. Good on Kaelen for taking that and giving her the perfect gift.
I will say I was more interested in the guards story with the two men wanting to court an omega. I hope to see this story in the future.

This book was such an easy read. Have I said how much I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE a devoted mmc. I mean Kaelen worshipped the ground Willow walked on. Ugh there’s something so amazing about relationship with so much reassurance you don’t have to worry about anything. I mean every time Willow even had a second of doubt it was over before the words could escape her mouth. And I loved the found family especially considering willow’s janky family situation the way Liam, Aiden, and Torin assimilated her as their sister so naturally with everyone so willing to protect her in love. Don’t even get me started on Kaelen actually courting Willow. I was definitely nervous with this being a dark romance that there would be forced aspects in the relationship but that man was pure fluf the second Willow was involved in anything. Ugh I love their love. Willow and Kaelen are definitely the best couple I have read in a minuteeee. Ugh I’m just utterly obsessed with how much I loved this book, how easy it was to read, and the pacing was scrumptious so many cute moments to really get you invested.

I can't figure out how all these people die in these novels and there isn't a hint of any type of investigation. PR how people are kidnapped and no one Jas a clue. Im sure the next stpry we get will be Adrian and Torin with Sam, but the one story O want to re ad now is Mossimo.

2.5/5. This is a bummer. I enjoyed it for the most part, but it dragged and was boring at times and the spice was too quick like alllll the time. Like bruh why do you write it this way 😩 the next book would be interesting but unfortunately I just don’t like the writing style so I don’t think I will be continuing :( while it was very spicy, it was all very quick. So it didn’t feel hot lmao. So due to that in decreasing the scale to 2/5.

This is the first time I read something "Omegaverse" and maybe it's just not for me. I get shifters but this not so much.
Kaelen is light on the plot and heavy on the insta love and smut. The few plot twists were unfortunately as easily predicted as resolved. There were also some small inconsistencies in the stories which bothered me a bit.
Overall this was a nice, light read.

The "Butcher of Boston": Kaelen Finnegan completely lives up to his name. He is a brutal, ruthless Alpha to the rest of the world, but his "touch her and die" energy when it comes to Willow is off the charts. Seeing that hard exterior crack specifically for his mate was so satisfying.
Willow: I absolutely loved Willow. Even though she’s in a vulnerable position as an Omega being used as a pawn, she has a quiet resilience and a backbone that I didn't expect. Watching her find her footing and her own power in Kaelen's dangerous world was one of the best parts of the story.

DNF at 48%. FMC has the emotional processing of a child. You can pond that off on how awful her dad treats her but she mentally acknowledges her own outbursts, just does nothing to change it. She’s also physically abusive toward the MMC. I like dark books, I can handle a lot but any physical abuse between the main characters is a no for me. I don’t know why some authors believe it’s a non-issue if it’s coming from the FMC, it’s still abuse 🥴
Their first meeting she slaps him. Ok she thinks he’s like her father, so I ignored it even though I didn’t like it. Another time she hits him in the chest or something I don’t even remember what the reason was for. It’s always so stupid.
Now, her father had originally come to the MMC to barter her off, MMC didn’t go for it but kept her with him to keep her safe and so he couldn’t sell her off to someone else.
They start developing a relationship, they are courting and want to be together, when the Italians come knocking saying her father signed a marriage contract for her and the Italian mob don who’s an old man.
MMC thinks to himself instead of a bloody war where both sides will have people who die. He pretends they’re already married.
When he discusses this with her she wants the war 🫠 and apparently that makes her queen material. He tells her it would mean she would be hidden way for potential years and now she doesn’t want the war. She was fine with his own men dying though.
So the plan is to have a quick wedding and backdate the marriage license so it looks like it happened awhile ago. She wants her mom to come to their wedding, her mom is at her dad’s and is basically comatose. He tells her if they got her mom, her dad would know they werent previously married and her response was to try to slap him 🥴🤦🏻♀️ when he catches her hand, she basically asks him what’s he going to do about it. Just gross. I was done

He will know we haven’t always been married, and would tell the Italians. It’s not safe, mo chroí.” “So no one,” I bit back, anger and pain lacing through my chest like shards of broken glass. “I’ll have no one at this farce of a wedding.” It wasn’t necessarily his fault, but I wanted to be mad at someone. I reared back, about to slap him when his fingers wrapped around my wrist, stopping me. I hissed, glaring at him. “Careful,” he warned. “Or what?” I snapped, trying and failing to yank my arm free. “What will Kaelen Finnegan do to his wife?”
Keep in mind literally right before this they were cuddly and scent marking each other. And he kisses her after this.
She literally admits it’s not his fault, which obviously its her dad’s 🙄, she even says she wants to be mad at someone. Aka she wants to take her anger out on someone so she’s going to slap him.
There’s even one point where his brother or the brother’s bf acts hopeful that she will slap him again infront of people (like their first interaction). As if it makes her cool or something. So bizarre.
Uhm. It’s still domestic violence and abuse whether it’s coming from the man or woman. If this had been his POV he’d be considered the villain in the story. Again, I like dark books but it’s bizarre to romanticize abuse between the MCs.

First, I have to admit that while I have read quite a few books featuring paranormal type romances of all spice levels, this was my first venture into the Omegaverse genre. Even though I thought I knew what I was getting myself into, I in fact did not know what I was getting myself into.

That being said, this books reads as if it were written by a first-time author, which is shocking considering Michelle Love has a few hundred published. I have not read any of her other books, but am now curious if this book was an exception to previous publishings.
Additionally, Kaelen lacked overall editing. There were obvious spelling, grammatical, and awkward word choice errors that should have been caught in editing and/or the re-write process.
The plot idea could have been good, but the character and story development were severely lacking. Instead of an actual story, it felt like the instant attraction, fated mates, touch her and die trope-supported story was in place only to loosely justify the explicit, repetitive, uncreative sex scenes. Just to be clear, those are some of my favorite romance tropes! And while I don't mind a good and spicy open-door romance, it needs to actually BE a romance, complete with relatable characters and at least a somewhat cohesive and believable plot. This was pure smut. Amature smut. Falsely packaged as an actual story.
I truly hate leaving such negative reviews, but as an avid reader, all reviews are helpful in deciding my next read. Also, it is entirely possible that the Omegaverse genre may not be for me. An enjoyable omegaverse mafia romance.
With her mother sick, she must play the role of perfect daughter of the governor when her father drags her out in public. Finally one day he decides to barter her off in an effort to gain leverage from a mafia family to win his run for senator. He chose the wrong mafia family, because when he hits his daughter in the presence of the head of the Irish mafia, he gets nothing and leaves without his daughter, she remains in the care of the mafia.
We have a very sweet omega FMC who takes care of her mother as much as she can, and spends her free time at animal shelters and rescue clinics helping abused animals learn to trust again. She has also learned to be resilient when dealing with the abuse her father doles out, pushing back at him when she can, but never too much that anything would be taken out on her mother. The character has both sweetness and strength, and she slowly learns who she truly is when she doesn’t have to bend under the threats of her father. Her growth into herself was well paced and each step she took felt like a natural progression.
Our MMC is absolutely gone for her from the first moment he meets his omega. His devotion is absolute and he would do everything in his power to keep her safe and happy, even face her anger when he must do something she doesn’t like. He does his best to honor his promises and tries very hard to let everything progress at a pace that’s comfortable for his omega. His support of her is unwavering giving her the perfect space to grow into herself.
Although the situation was unexpected for both our MCs, our MMC immediately acted in the best interest of the FMC. It took a little longer for the FMC to accept things, which makes absolute sense, but the way she jumped from absolute distrust to complete trust and back was a little jarring. Often there wasn’t really a significant reason for the back and forth swaying she was doing.
The spice took a little time as our wonderful MMC made sure to follow the lead of the FMC and her comfort level, not letting instincts take over entirely. Yet the connection between them couldn’t be denied and the delicious spice progressed quickly. There was a little time for getting to know each other until their hands were forced by outside influences to progress their relationship.
This is absolutely a romance first, the mafia setting makes for more opportunity to push into some darker themes, which we get a few times, but it was the FMCs past that held most of the darker themes. Make sure to check your triggers.
Overall I enjoyed the book and am very fond of all the characters, every one of the them showed both sweetness and strength, which I adore. What took me out of the story were the repetitive inner thoughts of the MCs, mostly from the FMCs POV. There also seemed to be some inconsistencies in those inner thoughts, but those could explained away by her state of mind at the time.
I had a great time with these MCs and I absolutely want the stories of the rest of the characters we met!

His support of her is unwavering giving her the perfect space to grow into herself.
Although the situation was unexpected for both our MCs, our MMC immediately acted in the best interest of the FMC. It took a little longer for the FMC to accept things, which makes absolute sense, but the way she jumped from absolute distrust to complete trust and back was a little jarring. Often there wasn’t really a significant reason for the back and forth swaying she was doing.
The spice took a little time as our wonderful MMC made sure to follow the lead of the FMC and her comfort level, not letting instincts take over entirely. Yet the connection between them couldn’t be denied and the delicious spice progressed quickly. There was a little time for getting to know each other until their hands were forced by outside influences to progress their relationship.
This is absolutely a romance first, the mafia setting makes for more opportunity to push into some darker themes, which we get a few times, but it was the FMCs past that held most of the darker themes. Make sure to check your triggers.
Overall I enjoyed the book and am very fond of all the characters, every one of the them showed both sweetness and strength, which I adore. What took me out of the story were the repetitive inner thoughts of the MCs, mostly from the FMCs POV. There also seemed to be some inconsistencies in those inner thoughts, but those could explained away by her state of mind at the time.
I had a great time with these MCs and I absolutely want the stories of the rest of the characters we met!
