Detour Art is an excellent survey of contemporary folk art and outsider art. Kelly includes art from the whole country not just from southern United States which is the region many collectors and galleries concentrate on so one gets a whole new broader perspective on folk art/ outsider art in this country. In addition to the giants of the field, Kelly includes relatively unknown artists and new comers. In other words she takes you out of the musuems and into the real world of folk art. The book ...more
