New York Times bestselling author Shannon Chakraborty sets sail into the second adventure of pirate Amina al-Sirafi as her quest to track down magical artifacts brings her to the island lair of a sorceress whose woven enchantments are impossible to flee.

Amina al-Sirafi thinks she’s struck gold. Tasked with hunting down arcane artifacts for the council of immortal peris, she can savor the occasional rollicking adventure on the high seas with her cherished criminal companions while still returning home to raise her beloved daughter, Marjana. But when Raksh, the spirit of discord with whom she is reluctantly wed, provokes the council’s wrath, Amina is charged with a seemingly impossible quest: steal a spindle capable of rewriting fate from a mysterious sorceress on an island no one can escape.

Forced to leave Marjana—who is increasingly frustrated at being peddled what are clearly lies about her mother’s life and her own past—Amina finds her mission almost immediately thrown into peril. But deadly storms, an erratic poison mistress, and old enemies are the least of her worries. For the peris’ story is unraveling, hinting at a far deadlier game whose rules Amina must swiftly puzzle out. A game that sets her against an adversary more cunning and powerful than she has ever faced.

A game that not everyone on her crew wants her to win.

I have fallen in love with this writer. I've been living in the middle East for the last 48 years. Married a muslim, travelled throughout the Persian gulf as a musician, experienced the Syrian, Lebanese Iraq wars and still I live here in Beirut war hung the South burn again.. I'm an avid reader and very picky. Shannon don't stop writing you have touched my soul.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, I loved this.

It's been about 2 years since I read Amina al Sirafi 1, so I did need to read a quick review of Amina's crew, but once I had that review, it was easy to dive back into this world. The book starts in a very similar tone to book 1, a chaotic fun pirate romp, but once we get to the main body of the plot, it zooms in and slows down a bit so we really get to sit with Amina, and especially with her relationship with Dalila, in a way that I really enjoyed.

The only mild criticism I have of this book is that there is a plot element whose resolution seemed surprisingly minimized and hand-wave-y given how heavily it loomed through a significant portion of the story. When I sit and think about it, this feels a bit dismissive of a major source of tension, but I was so entertained by everything else going on that it really didn't harm my reading experience at all.

Shannon Chakraborty really just seems to be my perfect author. Her prose enthrall me, her worlds feel lush and expansive, her characters feel tangible and human. And her stories are just so fun. This was a delight and I cannot wait for book 3.

The Tapestry of Fate by Shannon Chakraborty follows Amina al-Sirafi on her next adventure, as she’s sent by the council of immortal peris to steal a magical spindle capable of rewriting fate, from a sorceress on a mysterious island. The book promises storms, dangerous magic, betrayals, and the strains of leaving her daughter Marjana behind, adding emotional weight alongside the high-seas fantasy adventure.

CAN'T WAIT FOR IT'S RELEASE!!

I loved it. Start to finish: good storytelling, thought-out characters, strong female lead with depth
Thoughts of a fierce independent woman with wishes, regrets and hopes for herself and her family with struggles about her past and future.

Gotta love an older lady pirate. If you are a One Piece fan, pick this up!

What makes this tale so unique is that is related by a scribe and storyteller adding that bit of charm and personable affection to the telling and characters.

The book is very similar book one. Amina leaves her comfortable life and family (including her eager and impatient daughter) to chase a whisper on the wind. To live up to her legend.

Think: Amina al-Sirafi, her witty crew, and the magical Transgressions they are tasked with retrieving. This time to a hidden island of a sorceress with a spindle capable of changing fates.

The pacing is akin to book one. Amina continues to suffer from the need to balance adventure, the realisation of middle-age fog and aches, and her wish for a world her (maybe magical) daughter can fit in.

“You cannot cloister those you care for behind the highest walls in hopes of keeping them safe—not without also becoming their jailer.”

It’s fun, but it did start to feel repetitive when accounting for book one. Amina is also a very predictable character.
Every adventure and quest depends on a level of confidence, nay cockiness, that was absurd.

This was a more focused book in terms of cast and, whilst we got development for the Poison Mistress which was great, we miss out on the crew dynamic for the majority of the book.

Similarly, we don’t get much development on Raksh, the estranged chaos spirit husband.
Finally, I wish we got to explore more of the magical.

Overall, enjoyable, but lacking a satisfying series arc. Although I did like what the ending set up for the future of this crew.
3.5 Rounded up.⭐️

Now that's how you write a great sequel! Shannon Chakraborty is one of my favourite fantasy authors ever, and I'm deeply attached to the characters from both of her series. I loved 'The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi' for its brilliant cast of characters (especially Amina, the foul-mouthed, forty-something pirate who's also a loving mother), well-done historical research, and an abundance of hilarious and adventurous moments. I've been looking forward to reading the sequel ever since, and I must say that the three year wait was worth it! Although somewhat different in tone from the first book, 'The Tapestry of Fate' had so many elements that I love to see in a good fantasy novel.

Amina's quest to retrieve a spindle capable of rewriting the fates of people takes her to the White City, located on an isolated island and ruled by the enigmatic Queen Lab. The suspense levels were much higher in 'The Tapestry of Fate' than its predecessor. It almost reads like a horror novel, which might make sense only after reading the book. All I'll say is that the sense of dread and the stakes were greater than book 1. I've never finished a 500-page novel this fast. If you loved 'The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi' for the seafaring and travel aspect or the banter between the crew members, you might like this one less, because most of the time was spent on the island that no one can leave, and... certain characters got less of a spotlight. 'The Tapestry of Fate' delved deeper into Amina and Dalila's relationship. Dalila was my favourite side character in book 1, so I loved the character development here. This book also had more emotional moments. The magic system was also very cool. My only quibbles are that we didn't get to see more development in Amina and Raskh's relationship, and that the pacing was slow in some parts. Barring those, this was a fantastic sequel and didn't have all the problems that second books often do.

It's been a long time since I've been this shocked by an ending. Book 1 in this series ended in a way that made me excited about the sequel, but didn't leave me feeling restless because I couldn't read the next book immediately. But this...Miss Chakraborty, that was very rude of you😭 I'm afraid I'll not know peace until I have book 3 in my hands.

Once again Amina al-Sirafi ,Terror of the Seas, must abandon her daughter at home and head to the sea. Tasked with retrieving a magic spindle Amina and loyal crew face warring pirates to rescue a grumpy poison master and a storm that will leave their ship destroyed and shipwrecked on the island of their prey. This could work to Amina's advantage except things seem a little too quiet and their queen seems a little too nice and accommodating. And of course there is still the matter of her lusty demon husband showing up. Getting home in one piece will not be easy. Witty and exciting this fully developed fantasy features a multi-dimensional woman who yearns for the danger at sea as much as she longs for the quiet life at home with her family. She must deal with a husband who she reluctantly cares for but is the worst match for her, she is as loyal to her friends and crew as she is ruthless to anyone who poses a threat to them. A clever mix of the adventure of Indiana Jones or the pirate Anne Bonny and the intelligence of Mata Hari and Scheherazade this second book is as much a treat as the first. Anyone who wants high adventure, intelligent characters and great wit will love this fantasy series. My thanks to the publisher for the advance copy.

Shannon Chakraborty knocked it out of the park with the first Amina al-Sirafi book, so it was with apprehension that I began reading "The Tapestry of Fate", hoping against hope that it would be as amazing as the first.

More the fool I, because of course Shannon would deliver an awesome, swashbuckling adventure. When Amina and her crew are sent to destroy another transgression, a magic spindle with the power to change the very threads of fate itself and the witch who controls it, things go more than a little awry, leaving Amina wondering if she'll ever make it home again.

Something I love about Chakraborty's writing is how it is always page-turning and funny while also exploring deeper themes. Throughout "Tapestry" the reader is made to examine and critique (along with Amina herself) the power of story and how women specifically suffer in the retelling. What is truth? Who can you really trust? And, ultimately, what happens to history when only one side controls the narrative? Just as excellent as the first, I can't wait to talk with everyone about "The Tapestry of Fate"

I just secured my preorder, and stoked that this will become my priority read the moment it arrives on my doorstep, regardless of whatever I'm reading at the time.

Sorry, Andy Weir. Sorry, Matt Dinniman. Sorry, Justin Cronin. Sorry, Chuck Wendig. Sorry, Stephen King or your boy Joe Hill.

Whomever I'm reading in a few months, this goes straight to the top.

I'm ready for more Amina, and I can't freakin' wait.

This was a fun read overall and I loved the ending and what that will mean for the next book.

However I didn't enjoy this book as much as I loved the first one. I found the pacing to be slow and didn't feel as sucked into the story.

I am looking forward to the last book in the series.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and publisher for an eARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Hello
I just finished reading your story, and I absolutely adored it! Your writing is incredible, and I couldn’t stop imagining how fantastic it would look as a comic.
I’m a professional commissioned artist, and I’d be thrilled to adapt your story into a comic format. No pressure, of course. I just think your work would shine in that medium.
If you’re interested, feel free to reach out to me on Discord (laurendoesitall). Let me know your thoughts!
