A little jewel of a story.

The story starts intimately with Ciara dressing while her partner Audra watches her. But the intimacy between Audra and Ciara is disturbed, because Ciara does not want to tell her family that she and Audra are more than roommates. They are lovers. To complicate matters, the main problem Ciara faces is that Audra wants her to come out and tell her family. Ciara doesn’t see any sense in that and wants to avoid open conflict with a family that appears rather intolerant.

Hauntingly Beautiful
This was just such a moving and touching short story of a woman who struggles with the idea of coming out to her family.

Ms. Vitsky is so poetic with her choice of words. They are so powerful, meaningful, elegant and emotional. Even though the parts of the story were full of angst and turmoil I felt securely wrapped in a cocoon of the soothing prose.

I could not stop thinking about this story even well into the next day. The tenderness in Ciara's words and thoughts the mornin

Ms. Vitsky does it again!
She’s managed to pen yet another F/F story that has just enough angst to tug the heartstrings, and yet that is so beautifully composed it still manages to feel like escapism reading. Although the story does not feature the strong, fluid writing voice I’ve come to expect from Ms. Vitsky, she makes up for that by writing about two engaging young women, and the struggle the main character, Ciara, experiences as she is forced to decide between her family and true love.

I'm not sure how to talk about this one. The supernatural element didn't do it for me, but it was necessary for the story's resolution. The ending was appropriate, but I'm not sure how happy it is? I've been thinking about it for a week though, so that's something.

I've read a number of Ms. Vitsky's books, and each time, I think I couldn't possibly love it more than the last one, only to be proven wrong.

This is a gentle, tender story about the ways our own raw places can unintentionally wound the people we love most. Ciara's fear of rejection by her family is palpable. Even though the story is in first person from her POV, Audra's emotions are also tangible. What I liked, though, was that it never dipped into emotional drama just for the sake of f

This is a sweet story about young lovers. Audra is out about her sexuality with her family, but Ciara is not. Ciara is scared that she is going to lose her family once they know that she is a lesbian. Audra is tired of being kept a secret. So, Audra gives Ciara an ultimatum that is tearing Ciara apart. She wants to be with her love, but she also wants her family. There is a twist at the end that I did not expect, but seems to be the right answer for them. As I read this book, I wished that this ...more

This is quite the departure from a typical Vitsky read. There's not a spanking or BDSM element in sight.

Instead, we get a short story that revolves around a couple in conflict due to one woman being completely closeted to her family and the strain that this puts on their relationship. I found that Vitsky approached the topic in a completely new and sympathetic way, where neither woman is the villain, yet something needs to be done.

The amount of anguish and love that Vitsky captured was well don

Audra is tired of being the best kept secret in her girlfriend’s life. Can Ciara open up to her family about the person she loves? This is a sweet story about what is important in life. I liked this story because it brought out several key items people face in life; family relationships, trust, and love. Both characters were people the reader can identify with because life often isn’t pretty and perfect. I felt for Ciara because of her fear of rejection while at the same time I was drawn into Au ...more

This was a sweet story dealing with whats got to be a fairly common obstacle - whether the partner will be accepted by the family. It's really fun learning that the grandma has a bit of a wild side hidden in there and that she's able to connect to her through a dream. One thing that really bothered me was the complete lack of prior communication between the women. They'd been together for a long time. I feel like they would have discussed the potential for acceptance in the others' family before ...more

I was hooked from page one and read it straight through, which is really no surprise given the author :) This is a wonderful story of love and trust. Audra and Ciara are in love and it is very apparent that the feelings run deep. Unfortunately, they are at a crossroads In their relationship. They have an agonizing decision to make and I could feel their emotions jumping from the pages. I could empathize with both of them easily as they struggled to find their way. Very nicely done!

5/10 from me. This is a well written romantic short story about a relationship between two young women, Ciara and Audra.

Audra is quite upfront with her sexuality and her family are fully aware of her love for the same sex. However, Ciara's family have no idea about her sexual preferences and are more than happy to foist men on her at every opportunity. Ciara daren't tell her family as they are quite conservative at heart and bigoted against what they deem to be the norm.

Audra has had enough and

So good

I liked the story because it made me feel so sad but yet I could understand the characters. In the one hand with religious family members and then your sexuality, we have the accepting ones. I mostly liked that the author makes you feel that love is so forgiving and you love when you are accepting too. I wanted more of Audra and more of Ciara especially Ciara.
On a quick note I think Audra's mom knew her daughter was gay.
