What is “the shadow” in these stories? It’s what lurks in the dark, and it’s different for everyone.
• For Isabel, it’s the whisper from the basement that invites her to come on down.
• For second-grader Emma, it’s the tortured spirit that has haunted her family for generations.
• For Deacon William, it’s the damaged android that frightens visitors in the retreat house halls.

This is a collection of short stories, all of them with aspects of the monster under the bed and one, in particular, which stood out for me as the best of the lot.

Advent is an exceptional piece of writing which is worth buying this collection for just to read it. There are biblical touches in it due (I presume) to the writer's background which I wouldn't normally find appealing but there was so much more to this story. It depicts human history and centres on the deep need inside of all of us, th

Sometimes the things that go bump in the night tell us more about us than what's going on around us.

Veronica Dale's compilation of short and sometimes spooky stories covers a lot of ground - from outright sci-fi to dealing with our fears in the dark.

I particularly applaud "Dried Beans," a not-so-ghostly ghost story that plays a critical part in a young girl's tough decision. Be sure to read this one to your children, and help them understand.

Amazon review of Kindle Edition by Cynthia Harrison:
Just finished the stories in Veronica Dale's fabulous collection, Night Cruiser. The last story, about a creative writing class, was so rich in real detail (I have taught creative writing) that the twist, when it came, flipped me from reality to fantasy and horror and even humor with a few skillful shakes. Other standouts include "Persons of Marred Appearance" for its faith themes, startling characters (the "grieving deacon") and intense langua

Veronica Dale’s collection of short stories, Night Cruiser, is fun, inventive and suitably creepy. Science fiction and horror are usually not my thing, but I was attracted by her introduction at the beginning of the book where Ms. Dale talks about those who influenced her and led her to write this collection (Carl Jung, J.R.R. Tolkien, and Julian of Norwich—all luminous thinkers whom I greatly admire) and I was convinced to read on. My favorite story was Dry Beans with Persons of Marred Appearan ...more

With many years of experience as a librarian and as a pastoral minister, and a lot more years as a mom, I’m the author of Blood Seed: Coin of Rulve Book One,
