In this ebook, Ashley's got a passion for fashion, and she's always been the most stylish girl in school until the arrival of Sophie, a glamorous city girl who's new at school. Sophie and Ashley are instantly inseparable, but the other Sleepover Girls aren't so sure about Sophie. Things get even worse when Sophie convinces Ashley to totally transform her look. When Ashley includes Sophie in one of their weekly sleepovers, an innocent spa party turns into a makeover gone horribly wrong. Can Ashley get her groove back, or is it gone forever? And more importantly, is Sophie worth all the trouble?

In this book “The New Ashley,” from the series of the Sleepover Girls, also authored by Jen Jones, is about Ashley, Maren, Delaney, Willow, and the new girl, Sophie. A lot of things that happen in this book I think could really relate to a lot of the girls or boys in this world today because there will always be fights with your friends, and how things are going to happen but they will get better. This book affects me because it shows some morals throughout the book and how to deal with the situations that the book has throughout the book.
In the book Ashley, Maren, Willow, and Delaney are known as the Sleepover Girls for the reason being that they always have sleepovers at ones house every Friday. Although things do change after Ashley meets the new girl Sophie, who is a total fashion freak like her. Ashley then tries to be more like Sophie and hangs out with Sophie a lot more, but the other Sleepovers Girls do not like Sophie. Ashley then faces a challenge of how to get the Sleepover Girls to like Sophie, and how to hang out with both without the Sleepover Girls being mad at her for hanging out with Sophie. These things affect the reader because if they weren’t in the book the book wouldn’t be very interesting, it wouldn’t have an understandable story line, and it wouldn’t teach the readers the great morals included in this book. Here is some textual evidence that I found from the book that supports my opinion. “Sophie’s life seemed so interesting, and it was hard to find other people that got as crazy as I did over fashion.” (page 29) “I was pretty excited at the possibility of having a fab new friend!” (page 29) “They had become a tradition for us four and earned us the name the “Sleepover Girls.” (page 14) “Did being friends with Sophie mean I couldn’t be friends with them? The tears kept rolling down my face.” (page 87) “All weekend, I had a major case of the mopes.” (page 91) “Delaney faced me, annoyed. ‘Yeah, we all know how you love letting new people barge in - even if they were never invited,’ she said rudely.” (page 84)
I recommend you read this book because it has a great reading level for mostly all ages and shows a lot of morals throughout the book. The book is very interesting and has a nice style of writing or layout. The chapters aren’t too long or too short and she always ends the chapter with a cliffhanger or something big happening. I love the ending because it has a happy ending and a moral included at the end. Some connections I made with the book to my experiences is that you should always be yourself and that you don’t have to try to be like someone you aren’t. I really think you should read this book.
Ashley, one of the four Sleepover Girls, befriends Sophie, the new, cool chick from California. Instead of being herself, Ashley finds herself morphing into Sophie, which causes a little tension in her circle of BFFs. How can Ashley keep her old, dear friends while befriending someone new?
What a cute read! Many of my students, specifically sixth graders would like this. I would definitely put this in the hands of a reluctant reader on my campus. The story is fast, and the characters are likable. The girls show good examples of friendship and conflict resolution.
My book is The New Ashley by Jen Jones. The book is about Ashley and the sleepover girls, and the new girl Sophie who “interrupts” the group by getting Ashley’s attention. Ashley saw Sophie’s fashion and made a new friend, the other girls didn’t like them being friends and they don’t accepted Sophie in the group. Sophie took Ashley shopping and got her a new outfit, Ashley wore it to school the next day. The Sleepover girls didn’t like Ashley’s new outfit but didn’t say anything about it until the auditions for the school play. After the auditions are done they all meet in that room and talk about a sleepover Ashley invited Sophie, Sophie said they can have it at her house. At the sleepover they all had a good time, they did face masks and pranked one of the girls. I think the author included all the parts to get the people to read keep reading the book. The part where Ashley and Sophie go to the mall is a good “life lesson” they talk about how they will buy the clothes and Sophie gets her own credit card to buy stuff (her family is rich). After they go to the mall they hang out way more together, the sleepover girls don’t like Ashley as much as they did when she hung out with them. I think the whole book is a “life lesson” because it talks about all the girls do with each other and how they get to be really good friends. I recommend this book because it has good “life lessons” for younger students like 6th grade. I liked the ending because all the girls got along together so they all became friends. The book was pretty believable because the sleepover girls were being mean and we all see the mean people at school so you can predict what happens. My favorite part was when all the girls had the sleepover at Sophie’s house, they all laughed and had a good time.
I would recommend this book to anyone who knows that friendship is very important. I could not live without my friends. Everyone should enjoy this book.
The Sleepover Girls are an inseparable group of friends who stand by each other through thick and thin. But when Ashley makes a new friend, Sophie, friendships are tested.
The editor did a very poor job on this book. The author refers to girls by the wrong name (she calls Sophie Ashley a few times), there are misspellings and other grammatical mistakes that should have been caught. I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
