Identity in Community: discovering who we are together in Christ
Whatever your identity is rooted in will overflow out of you- in how you respond to others, in how you talk to yourself, and in how you experience God. Contrary to cultural claims, we don’t create our identity, we discover it. We don’t work to create it, but we do work to believe it. Our primary identity is not our nationality, political party, career sector or familial status. As followers of Jesus, our primary identity is in a beloved child of God. We acknowledge that we are defined by God above all other labels, counting what he says about us as most significant, steady and secure. It is a joy to discover who we are in Christ! God has created each of us uniquely, but he has also created a family of believers who collectively come together to reflect who God in each other and in the world. Walking with others in this identity, discovering who we were created to be in Christ, is a source of joy in the midst of a broken world.

Great job, Amy! A challenging and timely reminder for me that we do not belong to God in isolation but with each other, as complex as it may be.
As I think through my lens of discipling new believers, this is a great resource to help people have a well-rounded lens of how we belong to God and to one another in a variety of ways and contexts and how that allows us to live out our faith authentically as we grow and experience God.
I loved the section "I am an aroma" and this quote from p. 28
"we do not create our identity, we discover it... Our identity is what it is because God made us in his image, and we are on a discovery journey to know and understand what that means."

This is an insightful book that made me think! We are meant to live out our faith and grow in the company of others. I highly recommend this one.

The book was lovingly written by my friend, and I really enjoyed it. As Christians living in an individualistic society, we can miss what the Bible says about our collective identity. To miss that is to miss much.
