Aspen and Leif spent more than fifty years together with no hope of being true mates. Things are shaking up in the world of fated mates. Now, it may be too late.

After falling in love with Leif decades ago, Aspen’s pack rejected him. Bears aren’t supposed to waste time on vampires. Even without hope of a true mating, Aspen loved Leif deeply. Still does, even though he was the one who ended things. Now Weres are being paired with vampire and Aspen can’t see himself with anyone else. Unfortunately, Leif hates him now. That’s something he doesn’t know how to overcome.

Leif thought he had gotten to a point where he could survive since losing Aspen. Now Aspen’s back, and so too are the feelings he packed away. He doesn’t know if he can risk his heart again. Just because the rules have changed doesn’t mean they’ll be paired. While Leif is torn between running and staying, the community he swore to protect is falling to shambles. If Frost pays the price for Leif’s indecision, Celeste will see them all dead. It’s time to pick a lane.

Unmated is the sixth book in Charity Parkerson’s series where vampires, Weres, demons, gods, and all manner of the supernatural live together beneath the noses of humankind. These books are best when read in order.

Aspen and Leif spent over fifty years in love with no hope of ever being true mates. Now that Weres and vampires are suddenly being paired, Aspen wants another chance — but Leif is still heartbroken and unsure he can risk it again. As their old feelings resurface, their community begins to fall apart, and Leif must decide whether to run from Aspen or fight for him before everything — and everyone — is lost.

This story beautifully captures the undeniable pull between Aspen and Leif — a bond that’s survived decades of heartbreak, separation, and impossible odds. Even after fifty years apart, it’s clear that fate isn’t finished with them, no matter how much they try to protect themselves. The emotional depth is rich throughout, especially as their world expands to include gods, supernatural politics, and shifting mate dynamics. Those layered story arcs add tension and intrigue, but it’s the touching moments between Aspen and Leif — and between other characters as well — that give the book its heart. A sweeping, emotional paranormal romance where love refuses to fade and destiny keeps circling back, no matter how much time has passed. This was an MM story with mature content.

“Sometimes there were no words yet in creation to describe the power of a moment. But the soul knows and is forever marked. Just as they were now. It was beautiful.”

Here’s to 50+ years more (and cheers) for Aspen and Leif! Who would’ve guessed a cuddly bear and a prickly pear would make such cute forever mates. I can’t figure out if Celeste has the coolest job ever or if she has the busiest. Hmm, maybe it’s both. Regardless I love this series and these two finally getting what they’ve been waiting for made my heart happy.
