I joined over three months ago. I uploaded a picture of myself and typed a list of my favorite things, like jogging (to look athletic), reading (for intelligence), and painting (to appear creative). There were a few hits on my profile right away. All eithe spam emails for weight loss pills or very creepy messages from guys whose interests included "banging" and "clubbing". I wasn't looking for my knight in shining armor, but I also wasn't looking to get locked up in a basement be

My Thoughts - Story
Wow…just wow…I saw this listed on NetGalley last night and sent the synopsis over to Jahy to see if it would be something she thought I would like…and goddamn…I’m so happy she thought so.

I have to confess and say that I read a bunch of the reviews before I started so I kinda knew it was going to be a tearjerke

"I knew where he lived (Boston), his supposed age (39-21 years older than me)..."

That was my first eye roll and should have been my first clue right there.

This is a very short novella about a young woman, Casey, who needs money. She helps support her family and puts their needs above her own. She joins a special, invite-only "dating" website and meets a mysterious older man, Jonah. He flies her out to meet him and be his "donor." What kind of donor? Hmmm.

What a touching, emotional and short journey(I wanted more) this novella turned out to be. In the beginning I honestly thought I wasn't going to like it, but once I realized I misunderstood a main story detail *durp* , I breathed a sigh of relief and devoured rest of the book. I could say more but my review will blow compared to Carol so I'll just take the lazy route add her review link once its up.. What?. . . its the truth!

I originally rated this as a 3 star read, but I keep thinking about this book months after reading it and I have to up my rating. Though I had an issue with it (see spoiler below) the writing and style of this was so good that I can't really justify it being lower than a 4.

Well ... I'm not sure what to say after reading this.

It hooked me in and I enjoyed it a lot but (view spoiler)

Well color me purple! This was a total surprise. Its been hit or miss here lately with the NG books I've requested so I was thinking the worst when I opened this one up. Holy Smokes Robin! To the batcave to read this in one sitting. Loved it. My only problem... I want a part 4 and 5 and 6 and 7...
Excellent book.

Rae’s take on online dating is priceless. She launches you right into the main character’s life and you’re off for one very unique ride. You simultaneously find out what she’s doing & how she got there. Rae subtly develops her characters. By the end of this first instalment you get an idea of who the female lead is and how she got where she is. The male lead remains a bit of a mystery which adds an extra layer of complexity to this short story.

The story is intensely emotional. Rae deals wi

First let me just say, this story is a novella, and I wasn’t expecting that so the star rating was affected by that surprise. I did really like the beginning with the development between Cassie and Jonah. Having read Nikki Rae’s other series, Jonah didn’t seem nearly as mysterious as I’ve seen written in other reviews. That being said, I totally loved the idea of his ‘business’ and I had my suspicions before he included Ca

When I first requested The Donor, I had expected some creepy medical story about a girl who sold her organs to make money. That is not what this story is about. It is a girl donating her blood to a vampire for him to feed from.

Her characters both have issues throughout their lives that are devastating to each and have shaped their personalities. Jonah is the broken father who wants nothing more than to save his daughter’s life. Casey

I love a good paranormal read as much as the next girl and getting something different from the norm is even better. And this was different, very different.

A whole new fresh approach to...well, actually I am not going to tell you since it is never actually spoken out loud, although it is implied and is very much obvious what beings we are dealing with early on, I will leave the discovering up to you. And while this was a whole new fresh approach to, well, supernaturals, I am not sure I

As a voracious reader, you tend to go through phases of what's popular as you get a huge influx of one sort of book and a couple of years ago for at least five years or so Vampires were the big thing and I read so many paranormal/supernatural vampire stories that I got sick of them as they all started to blend in together and it felt like I was reading the same thing over and over again. However, The Donor was amazing and was one of those hidden gem reads. The Donor starts off with Casey who we ...more
The Donor (the full novella) is comprised of the three parts previously written and sold individually by Nikki.

Casey, a young woman dealing with a lot in life, turns to online dating of a sort to help out with finances.

Things aren't as straight forward as we are made to believe.

Jonah meets up with Casey and while not creepy, things are a little off.

I was not really a fan of the to-ing and fro-ing of the story, it made it feel really disconnected. The layout made it easy to distinguish the chang

The Donor novella is a short story written by the talented writer Nikki Rae.

And again Nikki Rae amazed me by her writing style and her way of creating this world and these characters. She isn't as famous as Cassandra Clare, but I think she's as good as Clare.

The story is about Casey and Jonah.
Casey is a young girl of nineteen. She has cancer but her parents already have enough problems so she never told them. Her dad broke is back and now they have money problems. So Casey decided to become a do

I had not read a book by Nikki Rae before, and after checking the blurb of this book I was interested to see if I would like its style, characters and the story.
Know that I haven’t read much paranormal/fantasy books before.

The story is told from one point of view, Casey’s to be more precise.
The novella is mainly about two characters: Casey and Jonah. Casey is a young girl who desp

This book is unlike anything I have read before, and although it didn't have the typical ending I would expect from a paranormal romance story I absolutely loved it! For me it let my imagination run away with the possibilities of what happened next. I imagine everyone that reads this story will have a different reaction but for me it really made me think and that is a quality I truly appreciate from a well done story.

In my opinion the Nikki Rae is unique and brilliant writer and I absolutely can

Wow. This story is not at all what I expected. And I mean that in a good way. Took me by complete surprise.

I think it's good to go into this story as blind as possible. It's an interesting concept, well-written, and completely gripping from start to finish. I couldn't put it down.
This has to be the most depressing thing I've ever read - so if you know anyone who has a debilitating, terminal illness, don't go there.

The words danced off the screen like a poem, haunting and beautifully written. The Donor is a work of art, however to label Nikki Rae as an artist would be a huge understatement, this is because she challenges the limits of originality and authenticity with a grotesque and gripping story that left the readers wanting for more.

I was extremely excited when the publisher approved my request for the book on Netgalley, I fell in love with the cover almost instantly and the blurb convinced me to delv

I found this a curious read, I’m still not sure whether I liked it or not.... Like most readers I was intrigued at what exactly really was, and it’s a while into the book before it becomes clear. [Full disclosure: I received a free ebook through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.]

I’ll admit it: I thought this book was about sex when I requested it on NetGalley. Considering the blurb, I don’t think that was an unreasonable assumption because a lot of erotic novel blurbs are. I was honestly looking for a little guilty pleasure.

What I got was a poignant, touching story that left me an emotional wreck for a full day afterward.

So obviously, this book is not about sex. No, it’s the st

I never know what to expect from new adult or romances or even paranormal romances. Yet I still go on and read them. Sometimes I'm amused, sometimes I'm bored. Romances are usually similar. One "normal" girl, one "hot/wealthy/older" guy, things happen, they can't be together, then they are. Happy end.

And then there's The Donor. And I don't think I can sum my thoughts about it without going through the spoiling ground.

This is the full novella of The Donor by Nikki Rae. I believe previously it was released in section, but this review is based on the complete book.

I had not read a book by Nikki Rae before, so I was interested to see if I would like the style of writing as well as the characters and story its self.

Firstly I want to say that although this book is fantasy and a new adult that it also has an element of romance too, although that isn't the strong under current of this book. Also, do not expect happy

Casey had a dream to be a marine biologist. But then her father was injured, and everything she earned at her job was needed to help pay his medical bills. With her life at a standstill, Casey didn't think things could get worse.

And then the headaches started. And the nosebleeds. At first, it was seemingly just a migraine with maybe a nosebleed because of the pressure. But then the headaches started lasting multiple days and the bleeding happened more frequently. After a round of tests and more

I'm a sucker for romance and when this book first started I wasn't really sure what to expect. I mean I loved Nikki's other books so I knew I'd love it but I wasn't sure what this book was about. It definitely rocked me to my core. I mean it starts out with a young right out of high school girl who has a hard life. Well this one is not something I expected, or ever read anything like it. Let me see if I can explain it without ruining it. What would you do if you found out you were dying and very soon? Well, Casey is going to use her tom left to help her struggling family. She finds out about this online site where you can be a donor. Donor can mean many things but I won't tell you because my mind was spinning with options. But it's done wonderfully. Casey is eighteen and she can't afford college because he ...more

This was a very interesting story. It was fairly obvious that Casey has some sort of (possibly) terminal illness from the beginning of the book. What isn't immediately obvious is the type of site MyTrueMatch is. It seems to be a dating site, but it isn't exactly what it seems. The idea of this is something I haven't encountered before, which I love! It is nice to come across a unique story, that doesn't follow the normal paranormal rules. This is a story that follows the life of a sickly girl that signs her life over to a vampire. They find each other through a website that is geared towards hooking humans up with vampires who are willing to pay for their blood. I thought this was a truly interesting way to show vampires. Entirely different from the gruesome way they normally do things.

This story was written with an alternating past and the present tense flow. This was a different way of reading for me, that I really like. I did
