Queen Medusa vs. King Black Bolt with the fate of the Inhumans in the balance! The NuHumans are a valuable currency in the new world order and someone is working hard to control their destiny.
Charles Soule is a #1 New York Times-bestselling novelist, comics author, screenwriter, musician, and lapsed attorney. He has written some of the most prominent stories of the last decade for Marvel, DC and Lucasfilm in addition to his own work, such as his comics Curse Words, Letter 44 and Undiscovered Country, and his original novels Light of the Jedi, The Endless Vessel, The Oracle Year and Anyone. He lives in New York.
New Attilan faces off against Ennilux over Iso and Lineage finally makes his move.
The Nuhumans get put to the test defending New Attilan. They get some help from an unexpected place. I really like the Nuhumans along with the new Inhumans created for the series. The new characters are quite a diverse cast. They broke the old mold for Inhumans all being part of Attilan and following Black Bolt and the Royal Family.
Looks aren't everything, but perhaps it's best to be more skeptical of a guy who looks like the devil. Lineage always seemed as though he was up to more than he was saying and in this volume he proved that.
All the Nuhumans got some attention in this volume and they are an interesting bunch. Mixing them in with the Royal Family has been positive overall. I think Inhuman was a good start, but they need to make a lot more Nuhumans to even come close to being a viable MCU replacement for mutants. The effort put into strengthening the Inhuman brand is already paying off and I'm looking forward to the Inhumans future.
I kind of feel like this book was a victim of the relatively short run, because I do think it could have grown into something very good. The writing was consistently quite good, and the characters were interesting and developed fairly well, for as much space as they each had. But there was a lot going on. If this had been able to go on for ten or twelve volumes, instead of just three, that could have filled out beautifully. But instead, it feels scattered and ends abruptly.
Black bolt returns and fights Lineage and teams up with Medusa to do so, she kicks him out, him on the run but then Lineage makes his move and sends Medusa and her team to battle with Lash while he has plans of world domination using some Inhuman object and well its the NuHumans who have to team up to fight this threat and there is something with Inferno flaming up and also his sister Gabby may have had a baby.
Its an alright volume with predictable twists and turns and not that many new things and Lineage makes for a cool one and done villain not really posing any big threat per se and the art for the most part is good. Its a good volume in one way and you can skip this and all.
An interesting, inherently readable, but ultimately flawed series(perhaps due to the shake-ups that took place before the comic even launched).
From an intriguing setup leading into the series (the Terrigen bomb erupting [thus creating scores of NuHumans], New-Attilan rising, etc.) with stunning art from Joe Madureira (But don't get me started on "Battlechasesers"!!), this series starts small, and, instead of expanding and showing us how these NuHumans interact and affect the larger Marvel Universe, it gradually narrowed itself until it basically boiled down to "Medusa vs. BlackBolt".
As a fan of the Inhumans since they were first introdcued, I would normally be OK with that one-line setup, but this book promised SO MUCH MORE that it ultimately failed to deliver on (perhaps because of it's abbreviated run?)
See my review for Volume 2, with more heightened expectations and even more disappointment at the way this still takes promising villains and does half as much with them to create underwhelming conflict.
Still waiting to read a *good* Inhumans story. Can we just goddamn well bring Jed Whedon over from Agents of SHIELD and finally find someone who can make Inhumans *cool*?
We all have different tastes, and even though I might be critical of many artists (and writers for that matter) I try to remember, when I can, that my opinion is subjective, ...
but anyway, I can't help feeling that this book would have been stronger if I had liked this art better. To me it was too exaggerated and cartoony for me to "go into that world" Which sucks because I like these characters, and I think this writing is fresh.
I have loved this series from start to finish -- Charles Soule has really opened up the world of the Inhumans to a new generation of new readers right before that make their debut in the MCU. Medusa has grown into her own and I am so excited to see her be the next great heroine of the Marvel Universe after Secret Wars.
This short series reaches its 'conclusion' as all the Inhumans get together and do Inhuman things against the big menacing villain that no one cares about. It was so surprising to see an Inhumans title that didn't have Crystal or Black Bolt or Lockjaw, aka the three Inhumans that people (i.e. me) actually care about. So finally Black Bolt returns in this volume, and there's some Lockjaw, which is great! Hurray! The Black Bolt/Medusa reunion/confrontation is done really well and this era finally starts to set itself apart. Sure, it was different, but was that just because Black Bolt was gone? Would his return bring everything back to the status quo? Soule gives a firm hard NO to those questions and shows that things aren't actually going to return to 'normal'. It's like the creators finally got a grasp on what they were trying to tell, and had all the pieces in place, but didn't have the space to do anything with. Hopefully as the Inhumans push of the 2010s continues they can hit the ground running as the foundation has already been set.
Sadly, this volume starts off with another example of bad collection-mapping from Marvel. The first issue in this collection (#12) is clearly the climax to the previous arc, yet Marvel held it over so that they could end volume 2 with a cliffhanger, a bad habit that they've been succumbing to of late. As a result, we start this volume with an appendix of a story that feels like an anticlimax, especially since it succumbs to a major Inhuman problem: deus ex Blackagarus.
Otherwise, the volume is strong. It continues the threads of Inhuman politics (which are great) and young nuHumans (which are as successful as any recent creation of a group of heroes for pure marketing purposes, which is to say some are good and more are forgettable). It's overall an enjoyable volume, if not quite as strong as the previous one, due to the erratic nature of its storytelling, which also feels like it was brought up short for Secret Wars.
I'm looking forward to the next volume … if I can figure if I should read Attilan Rising, Uncanny Inhumans, or All-New Inhumans, as Marvel is making quite a mess of this storyline with a plethora of obtusely-named titles in the near future.
Fajny wypad do pubu i karaoke (Gorgon rządzi). Z kolei z martwych powstaje jedna postać i jest to kretyńsko zrobione. Już wolałbym, aby go nie zabijali... Tyle plusów. Reszta jest mdła i czerstwa. Soule chyba złapał zadyszkę.
This little series never really had a chance getting a decent beginning then hit with AXIS nonsense and ending due to Secret Wars. Charles Soule did a lot here though and I enjoyed this book despite a handful of issues. The art was not up to par here and the story ending in the annual but a different artist was a jarring change (characters were even dressed differently). The story of Lineage's move on Attilan was good though. He's a solid villain with an interesting skillset but his end goal was suspect. Lash and his people never clicked with me though. I loved Medusa and Black Bolt finally having "words". The NuHuman introduced in this series were better than expected and I look forward to reading more with them. Overall, a short read with lots of potential and solid villain.
I really enjoy the Inhumans, and liked the start of this run, but as it went it petered out for me. It just fell back on the same old stories for Inhumans with an anti-establishment arc... In the second book, It was incredibly disjointed flipping between Reader/Iso (I loved Reader) and Medusa being...petulant? Moody? Standing alone, it was not a fun read when without fail every other page went back to Medusa's date or weird posession thing..? This final book, with Lineage, should have been something bigger, but it was just a retread of the third would-be-king in a row taking over New Attilan. Inhumans cast is their strength, but pacing and story were lacking in this run for me...
Nice finish to this great story. Man Medusa is ruthless. But if I was Black Bolt, I would have done the same thing. After Reader brings ISO to New Attilan, of course Ennilux follows them. The Nuhumans have to earn their stripes in a scrap. Then someone shows up and helps them finish the job. Nice!!! Lineage was on some BS and threw all kinds of monkey wrenches into the situation. I knew I had me eye on him for a reason. But as vol 1 and 2, there is the same quality writing in this volume. I want to find what comes after this and read that too. I think it might be Uncanny Inhumans.
I was enjoying this series but in this very short volume it comes to an abrupt end. The Ennilux pursuit of Iso comes to an abrupt end from a deus ex machina from Blackbolt. But the real point of that issue is the convo between Blackbolt and Medusa about the throne. Then shady, manipulative Lineage does some shady manipulative things to force a confrontation between the Attilan Inhumans and Orollan, all so he can finally reveal his master plan .... which makes no sense. This was very disappointing.
I really enjoy this story line despite the fact that I have never read any marvel comics before and am oblivious to the background of the characters and world that are not original to this story. I would really like to keep reading this story line, so if anyone knows where it continues please share!! (Or really just anything that includes Dante bc that's my dude)
 I got back around to finishing (and accidentally re-reading the first two volumes of) this arc, and there was entertaining action and a decent-enough resolution. I couldn't help feeling like this series was fractured because it was alluding to two many other series as well as the impending Secret Wars event.
Decent ending to the series. Didn't vibe with the art in these issues though, and the story was a bit rushed. The inevitability of Secret Wars will do that to, well, every book in the entire Marvel Multiverse except maybe Hickman's Avengers. Still somewhat looking forward to Uncanny Inhumans as I do like the new characters, but yeah. This arc was very meh.
This was such a good ending to the series. The NuHumans are just getting to be more and more interesting. Iso stole this book completely. And Medusa is still proving to be an awesome character. Soule and Stegman are a great team.
This series had a lot of good ideas and exciting new characters...which it promptly squandered on a stupid villain plot, and too much focus on the drama between Medusa and Black Bolt. Sigh. Also, was Lash ever...actually relevant as a villain? Is that just something to set up for the future?
this didn’t feel like a conclusion to me though lol - i loved the whole arc but epic climax is the wrong description lol - literally no closure to black bolt and medusa whilst the big bad at the end of it was like…so painfully obvious?
The stories all come together when Ennilux fights the Inhumans, Medusa against Black Bolt and Lineage makes his move. The fate of the Inhumans are at stake.
This opens up with Medusa reading Black Bolt the riot act, and he takes off for the rest of the story. Mostly focused on Lineage's scheme to use the Inhuman Codex to . . . Rule the World! The resolution requires Karnak coming back from the dead and Iso using the Codex to fix things. Not a really satisfactory conclusion.
