Sometimes losing everything is the only way to find what matters.
Dr. Holly Carrington has officially hit rock bottom.
When a panic attack strikes in the middle of a hectic ER shift, she’s forced to step away from her prestigious career as a trauma doctor. Broken, exhausted, and more uncertain of herself than ever, she accepts a temporary position at a sleepy small-town clinic – never expecting to find comfort in the arms of a six-foot-tall rancher with a soft smile and filthy mouth.
Grayson Hart is nothing like the men Holly’s used to. With his worn Levi’s and calloused hands, he’s a far cry from the polished city types she once dated. He’s steady where she’s restless. Grounded where she’s been drifting. He’s everything she didn't know she needed.
But as her time in town runs out and reality calls her back, Holly has to make a choice: return to the life she built, the only life she’s ever known, or take a leap into the life she’s only just discovered.
Is this new love enough to bridge the gap between who she was, and who she’s meant to be? Or are some worlds just too far apart?
Laura turns the simplest stories into something truly beautiful, and that’s apparent in this book. Grayson and Holly are just normal people, struggling in their own ways and they run into each other at exactly the right (wrong?) time. Holly has had the worst day of her life and Grayson, the country boy, has ventured into the city. They run (literally) into each other, have a coffee and get to know one another ….and then that’s it. But a chance encounter thrust them into each other’s orbits again and you can’t stop fate.
Grayson is the epitome of a book boyfriend - thoughtful, kind, and a rugged farmer boy who can lift hay bales and baby calves without breaking a sweat. Holly is a city girl..a doctor who is trying to find her way and figure out what makes her truly happy. Watching Holly have her day on the farm is both adorable (bc Grayson is just the best) and hilarious because she has no idea what she’s gotten herself into. I appreciate the way that they each get out of their own comfort zones to make the other person happy.
Laura has also set up the rest of the series perfectly. I’m now invested in the Hart family, in their farm and dying to read the other sibling’s stories! Lukas and his traumatizing past, Theo and his playboy ways and Harper …and her mysterious suit daddy. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
📕Book Review (Beta)📕 If you’ve been around here for a bit, you likely know I’m a big Laura Beth fan. Her books were some of the first I read when my “reading rebirth” began-and they remain my favorites. This is no exception. Worth the Fall follows Grayson (an MMC with a heart of gold) and Holly (a FMC battling anxiety and its impact everywhere) from an incredibly sweet meet cute to the most epically wholesome (and spicy) love story. This one is full of swoon, well done mental health rep, relatable character growth, and steamy spice.
Therapist 👋 Take: No one is immune from struggle, insecurity, self doubt or the shifts that can happen in life that make us transform into someone we may not recognize, understand, or immediately like. Holly is a successful medical doctor who loses herself to the challenges that come with anxiety and her expression of this is realistic, relatable, and her journey to self acceptance is empowering. Grayson is strong and capable, but also battling his own internal struggles-and the immediate connection they have is not only adorable but so worth reading for what it reminds us of. I loved the growth they had independently and together, the emotional intimacy made their spicy time so much more enjoyable (imho) and the forearms…I mean-come on. Henri Frederic Amiel once said “learn to be what you are and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not.” This story was an incredible reminder that someone loving you for who you are just as you are is an incredible thing to have-and it’s even more incredible when another someone who loves you is you.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you Laura Beth for letting me tag along as you write the most beautiful things and for your friendship which I treasure-and the Author Agency for the eARC 💕
As soon as I started seeing this book on Instagram, I just knew I needed to get my hands on immediately… and I’m so thankful to have had the opportunity to read an ARC! Laura Beth has such a beautiful way of using her words to connect us so deeply to her characters and this book did EXACTLY that! This book was so raw, and real. Grayson is the DREAM partner (reminds me of mine!) and I loved every single interaction between him and Holly from the very moment they bumped into each other. The way burnout, anxiety and mental health is represented was perfectly executed. Be right back, I’m going to go take my Zoloft and hug my sweet husband!
First book in the new Copper Ridge Series. And as always the author, Laura Beth, put so much heart into this book.
On the worst day of Dr. Holly Carrington’s life, she has a chance encounter with an impossibly gentle, broad-shouldered stranger on a snowy city sidewalk. Fast forward a few months and fate delivers its second nudge, this time in Copper Ridge, where the city girl has to stitch up a small-town rancher who never quite forgot her.
Where do I begin to describe Grayson Hart? Six-foot-five of bearded, burly, farm-strong sweetness. A man with a sweet tooth who rescues cats, protects horses from slaughter, and unknowingly detonates ovaries on sight. A cinnamon roll with a spine of steel. He’s patient, tender, steady, and a rock his family can always count on. A quiet hero. The way he loves? Unapologetic. Heart-first but with a dirty mouth.
Holly is having an existential crisis. Her high-performance career as a trauma doctor in an extremely busy ER gives her anxiety. She is drowning in expectations, yet still holding onto the spark that made her want to save and help people in the first place. Her crisis felt real, nuanced, and respectfully handled. Watching her rediscover peace in the wide open fields of Copper Ridge, stubborn farm animals, and Grayson was so rewarding. I also loved that she was able to take care of the man who always puts others first.
And the Hart family… three generations of chaos, love, and familial warmth. This all adds up to give you a cozy Midwestern romance.
Tropes and what to expect: • City girl in Small Town • Small-town comfort with emotional depth • Soft heroes who communicate • Mental-health-positive romance • Found family dynamics • Slow burn with payoff
If you love soft heroes who fall first, heroines healing in their own time, and small towns that wrap around you like a quilt? This book is for you.
Another Laura Beth book to enjoy! Worth the Fall has a mix of small-town charm, thoughtful mental health elements, and the cozy community vibe that come together and make this a engaging start to a new series. I really appreciated the balance of heart, humor, and the little threads of mystery that hint at what’s still to come.
Holly’s journey felt steady, real, and easy to connect with. Watching her step back, learn to trust herself, and take steps to figure out what she actually needs was one of my favorite parts. Her medical background adds depth and a story line that I can always get behind, but it’s her vulnerability and quiet strength that really shone through.
I adored Grayson. Who doesn't love a thick thighed cowboy? He’s the grounding, steady presence that quietly pulled her in. Their dynamic unfolded in a warm, natural way and I really appreciated the glimpses into his family life. The peeks at his siblings' lives brought forth a curiosity about where this series if headed next.
A few highlights... • Goats with reindeer names • Strong mental health and medical rep • Both found family and authentic family connections • Country men, ranch life, and that easy small-town charm
If you’re looking for a heartfelt romance with authentic layers, cozy family connections, this one is definitely worth picking up.
This is the first in a new series, and this is Holly and Grayson’s story. Holly is struggling mentally with anxiety and pressure from her job as a trauma ER doctor, and when she is forced to step away from a shift in the busy ER, she accepts a temporary position at a small-town clinic. Grayson is a protective and caring rancher, and when he and Holly cross paths there is an instant connection. What will happen when Holly comes to an end on her temporary contract, will she stay or leave? This is a well written easy to read, slow burn story, with found family, friendships, emotions, tension, opposites attract, reverse age gap, making choices, second chances, humour, witty banter, healing, undeniable chemistry, and unconditional love, which leads to an entertaining, small-town romance. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Personally, i think its super rare to find a book where you absolutely love BOTH the FMC and MMC equally. Usually there is something you dislike or a behavior that ticks you off but in this book I can say that I 10000% loved both main characters equally. They were fantastic and this book felt like coming up for a breath of fresh air.
Holly was the perfect FMC in eyes. She was raw and real and was trying to manage her struggles that she was going through. She consistently reassured Greyson about her feelings for him and even though she had been hurt in the past, she never once pushed him away or tried to run. She supported him and wanted him standing next to her.
Greyson. Sir. I am utterly obsessed with him. First off, he is the definition of a gentlemen and i had ACTUAL goosebumps, multiple times, when he spoke and from his actions. He was so so sweet & gentle with Holly. He made me melt into a giant puddle. The tension and the glorious slow burn just added to that. Not to mention.... the MOUTH on this man 🥵🥵🥵 I definitely wanna take a ride on his big green tractor. 😉😉
I also wanna say that I LOVED the side characters and am looking for forward to the rest of the series. I feel like Lukas is gonna have a redemption story that I can't WAIT FOR. 🫶🙌
Tropes: ✨️ Cinnamon Roll MMC ✨️ Small Town Rancher x Big City Doctor ✨️ Mental Health Rep ✨️ Slow Burn ✨️ Found Family
I am so excited that Worth The Fall is finally here! Laura Beth is so skilled at creating and developing her characters’ universe. I truly admired Grayson and Holly, and I wish I could be a witness to the rest of their love! Even though the book starts post-holiday season, the wonderfully descriptive prologue got me in the mood for Christmas and snow! From the first page, I couldn’t stop turning pages. Worth The Fall has all the banter, supportive secondary characters, and spice you could possibly want. The mental health representation was also relatable and realistic and really created good dialogue amongst the characters. Also, I love a good book where the main characters don’t break up and get back together right before the end (bonus points). I can’t wait to see where Laura Beth takes us next in Copper Ridge!

Firstly, it needs to be said.... The world absolutely needs to be filled with Grayson's. Oh Grayson the man that you are! Instantly, during his first interactions with Holly, this sweet and caring man, had me giddy and swooning. He's caring, sweet, loyal, protective, sexy, supportive and his 'body size' insecurities were so endearing. I just wanted to give him a big bear hug. And.... His internal thoughts about Holly were so beautiful.
Holly is such a sweet and quietly strong soul that truly went on an emotional self-discovery journey. While on a short break from her stressful emergency doctor city job and life Holly finds herself in Copper Ridge. While in Copper Ridge she not only works on her mental health but she takes a step back to decide what she wants in regards to her life and career. Of course she has Grayson, his family and Copper Ridge providing that support along the way which was soooo heartwarming. Her and Grayson's brother Lukas went through it. But... the relationship they shared by the end was so sweet. And... I already know Lukas's story is going to hurt!!!! But I so can't wait at the same time.
The level of obsession I have with Laura Beth’s books is wholly unmatched! When I found out she was gonna be writing a cowboy romance I’m nearly lost my mind with excitement.
Worth the Fall is a literal literary masterpiece and I’m always in awe of her writing.
It has all my favorite tropes! Cowboy x city girl, people pleaser and soft kind hearted man who heals her, found family, delicious delectable smut!
Grayson Hart 🥵 hands down my favorite cowboy. He was so soft and gentle hearted all wrapped up in a behemoth of a man. Reminded me so much of my own husband 🥰 also that mouth on him 🥸
Holly! I love me a recovering people pleaser because I see so much of myself in her. I also really appreciated the anxiety rep in this book and it was written so accurately. Also she’s a badass doctor and we all know how much I love medical rep in my books.
The tension between these two was so palpable the whole book and it culminated with fire works in hands down the hottest scene ever which we will call sexy tractor time 🤗
I can’t wait for my paperback to arrive so I can do an annotated reread
- just soo - sooooooo - soooooooooooooo swooooonnyyyy - she’s a smart and capable doctor, overworked and needing a soft place to land - HE IS SO SO SO SO SO MUCH A SOFT PLACE TO LAND - Farmer meets doctor - strong hairy man - DID YOU HEAR ME - HE IS A STRONG HAIRY MAN - no third act breakup - just goooorg love confessions - good pacing
Oh man this story. SO sweet, SO lovely, they are PERFECT and he is PERFECT and it’s just so LOVELY.
This is such a wonderful novel, a beautiful romance as told through the eyes of two real adults. They love eachother, they know eachother, they commit to one another and have a beautifully developed romance between a city girl and a smitten country boy. It’s the stuff of small town, farmer romance that you’re gonna love.
This sweet little book starts off with total Hallmark-movie energy—a doctor, a rancher, a found family, an unappealing but dedicated career, and that classic small-town-vs-big-city predicament. But it turns into so much more than that.
I was initially wary of this ARC; it starts slowly and I didn’t feel immediately attached to the characters. That changed fast. After a literal bump-into-each-other meet-cute in the city, fate drops Holly right into Grayson’s small town as his new doctor. Add in some outside meddling...their third interaction gets the story rolling. And by their fourth interaction, you see the chemistry.
Grayson is wonderfully earnest—honest about his feelings, steady, respectful, and someone who wears his heart unapologetically on his sleeve. Holly, meanwhile, is the self-aware “city doctor” stereotype she thinks she is, except she doesn’t take herself too seriously, which makes her incredibly easy to root for. The anxiety feels real. Lukas’ turmoil as a side character feels real. And despite the familiar setup and seemingly predictable scenarios, these aren’t surface-level characters.
By the end, you’re rooting for everyone and wishing you could linger on the farm just a little longer. While it may not be one I'll go reread routinely, it was well worth my time and worth the read.
ARC REVIEW: Thank you to Laura Beth and The Author Agency for the advanced copy of this book!
Just try not to fall for small-town rancher Grayson Hart! He falls hard and fast for Holly Carrington, the big-city ER doctor he meets by chance on the worst day of her life.
These two have instant chemistry, but as Holly falls apart from the stress of her fast-paced life and recently failed engagement, Grayson gives her the space to heal and set the pace of their relationship. He is an all-around good guy, patient and supportive, as Holly struggles to find a reason to stay in a career she once thought she wanted, but now only brings her uncertainty and anxiety. You won’t be able to help but root for these two to finally cross the line from friends to something more. Though the spice was a bit too much for me, the wait is worth it. Grayson loves unapologetically and supports Holly as she finds herself and her peace in the wide-open countryside.
Grayson’s family also makes for the perfect supporting cast. They’re exactly what Holly needs after years of feeling unsupported by her own family.
I’ll definitely be watching for the rest of the Copper Ridge stories to be released. I’ll happily dive back into that world!
ARC REVIEW- WORTH THE FALL Stars: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 🌶️🌶️.5
Tropes: 💙Small Town 💙Cinnamon Roll MMC 💙Muscular Dad Bod Appreciation 💙Doctor FMC with People Pleasing Syndrome tm 💙Mental Health Rep 💙Found Family ____________________________ Thanks to Laura Beth for trusting me with this one. I alpha, beta and ARC read this book and am leaving an honest review. All opinions are my own. ____________________________ I have been a fan of Laura Beth's for ages. I fell in love with her Grace General series last year and became obsessed with dad bods once The Bind hit my radar. I slide into her DMs and have never looked back. She has become one of my closest friends and I feel so honored and privileged to have been along for the journey of this book.
Worth the Fall has been through many iterations but this one is my favorite. It starts with a chance encounter between a woman on her worst day and a man who's default setting is taking care of others. She even meets him while he's on an errand for his little sister. Their missed connection weighs on them both and fate has a hand in furthering their story when they meet months later. Neither has been able to get the other out of their minds.
Holly is on a journey of self discovery and finding out what she truly wants out of life and the type of person she wants to be. Grayson is steadfast and emotionally intelligent, being a safe place for Holly to land. Grayson also has his moments of doubt and struggles with his own burdens, many of his own making. The peace they find in each other is so lovely to read.
This is a slow burn but don't get me wrong. They are HOTT together! Grayson may be a big fat cinnamon roll but he has a dirty mouth and knows how to use it. He is a consent king (as if he'd be any other way) and gives Holly just what she needs. The spice is spicing and feels just right in the story that Laura has weaved.
It's hard work, I imagine, to write a no third act breakup story and find the right amount of tension and conflict to make the story interesting. This book just felt right to me. Just because you want tension and conflict doesn’t mean it has to happen between the couple. The pacing throughout the book was just right and it makes for a book that I couldn't put down.
Worth the Fall is book 1 in the new Copper Ridge series. There are clues throughout to let you in on who else is getting a book in the series and are well deserving of their own fleshed out story. If you haven't read anything by Laura Beth, take a chance on this indie author. She writes stories with so much emotion, heart and swoon worthy men that you'll be thinking about for days.
❤️Characters: Holly Carrington is a city girl taking a break from her high-pressure ER job. Holly comes to the small town as a local GP as she grounds herself after a breaking point. She is kind, caring, insecure, and not sure what makes her happy…at least, not yet. Grant is the best — the epitome of a book boyfriend. He is thoughtful, kind, and a rugged farmer who can lift bales of hay and a baby calf. Grayson is grounded and provides Holly with a steady presence. Very sweet. Reminds me of my own guy (minus the farmer/cowboy vibes)—an absolute gentleman.
🚜Blurb: Dr. Holly Carrington has officially hit rock bottom. She is forced to step away from the hectic ER post-panic attack and heads to a small town. Is this new love enough to bridge the gap between who she was, and who she’s meant to be? Or are some worlds just too far apart?
🌾Thoughts: Can we talk about the characters? I love a good romance between the anxiety-prone FMC who is sunshine but doesn’t see it and the kinda grumpy kinda scruffy cinnamon roll MMC. Grayson was the sweetest guy to get Holly out of her shell and helping her find her happy again. As someone who struggles with mental health, I felt Laura’s representation of both Holly’s and Grayson’s internal struggles was really well done. I loved reading about Holly’s day on the farm—as it was both adorable and hilarious because she has no clue what she has actually gotten herself into. Grayson is swoon-worthy. He truly was written by a woman and is the perfect book boyfriend to warm your heart in this cold winter weather. The meetcute is wholesome, and the love that grows between Grayson and Holly is just *chef’s kiss*
Some other things I loved were the little goats with reindeer names. The strong mental health rep (clearly has experience with therapy). The authentic family bonding and found family aspects. I loved the way it was written (very well), the easiness to read, and the slow burn story line.
What to expect: 🩺 city girl x country boy 🚜 small town 🩺 second chance at missed connection 🚜 cinnamon roll MMC 🩺 found family 🚜 slow burn ❤️ NO third act breakup 🩺 anxiety rep 🚜 main characters in their 30s 🩺 MMC is a muscular big boy/curvy 🚜 slight reverse age gap (3 years) 🩺 she's an ER doctor x he's a rancher 🚜 "good girl" / "teach me"
Worth the Fall was the first book that I’ve read by Laura Beth and if all of her books are like this one, SIGN ME UP!
The characters, Grayson and Holly, are so realistic and so well thought through. I fell in love with both characters straight from the start.
Grayson Hart, is not your typical main male character, he has a REALISTIC body, with REALISTIC insecurities! By far, this was my biggest LOVE of this book. The storyline was phenomenal but my love for Grayson stands far above it. He’s a homegrown farmer/rancher who is barrel chested and does NOT have abs. Yes, I said that right, he does not have abs. Nearly every cowboy/ranching romance you read, the cowboy nearly always has a six pack or at least “defined” abs. Grayson, is not like that. He loves his food like his Mama’s fried chicken and macaroni and cheese. As someone who loves comfort food, I am so here for this! Haha! But not just his looks, he is a big SOFTIE. He is so sweet and lovely to everyone he interacts with, unless you mess with someone he loves. Then, all bets are off. I could seriously go on and on about his character.
Holly Carrington is a doctor who works in emergency medicine who suffers from anxiety. On the day when she hits rock bottom and doesn’t know where to go, she quite literally runs into the sweetest, nicest stranger she’s ever met. He makes her feel seen when no one that day did. I love her character and, again, how realistic she is. Her insecurities about her anxiety are REAL. It’s like the author pulls the insecurities that you imagine nearly every doctor would probably have and put them to page. Not every doctor is perfect and how Laura Beth describes Holly’s thought processes and how she processes things was amazing!
Both Holly and Grayson come a long way in this book and seeing their relationship emerge and evolve was truly beautiful. Grayson, is quite literally a true gentleman when their relationship started progressing and he didn’t want to take it too fast. It was like imagining someone slamming on the brakes but in the sweetest way imaginable. How Grayson was there for Holly when she needed someone was beautiful and what a true boyfriend/partner should be like!
Honestly, there is nothing I can complain about in this book. Literally NOTHING. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a big ol’ softie of a male character and a strong female main character who still struggles with certain parts of everyday life.
There is nothing better to me than finding a new-to-me author and absolutely devouring their book!! And that is what I found with Worth The Fall by Laura Beth! I can't express just HOW GOOD this book was! I picked it up and did not put it down! If you love a dirty talking, hot and protective cowboy meeting a city girl, such opposites attract, so much heat and slow burn, such a REAL, BEAUTIFUL and RAW book, I am telling you, read this book!
Grayson and Holly are just two ordinary people, each carrying their own quiet and deep struggles, who collide quite literally at exactly the right—and wrong—moment. Holly is in the middle of the worst day of her life when Grayson, a country boy far from home, finds himself wandering the city. They literally run into each other and for a brief moment, something real sparks… and then they part, thinking that’s the end of it. Except fate isn’t finished with them yet. A chance encounter pulls them back together proving that some connections refuse to fade.
Grayson, this man is EVERYTHING!! He is a man that is thoughtful, steady, and quietly kind. He cares so much about everyone else. He loves deeply and fully. And this man’s sexy, dirty mouth, OMGGGGG. AND I LOVED him as a “bigger” guy and loved her absolute pull to him and his body! Holly is a city girl, a doctor who has spent her life taking care of everyone else while slowly losing sight of herself. She’s searching for more than success—she’s searching for happiness, and maybe for someone who sees her exactly as she is. Laura handles her anxiety with such a beautiful and raw perfectness. So real in how it feels.
I don't think I can fully describe just how good this book is. The slow burn and heat will burn you. The healing and love you will feel soul deep. You will laugh, cry and want to be a part of this ranch! The found family is priceless. And this is only the start! There are still 2 more brothers and a sister and I am there for them!
Rate: 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 4/5🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
❤️ city girl x country boy ❤️ she's a doctor x he's a rancher ❤️ second chance at missed connection ❤️ slow burn ❤️ no third act breakup up ❤️ slight reverse age gap (3 years) ❤️ found family ❤️ "Teach me" ❤️ "Good girl" ❤️ MMC is a big boy
✨I wanted to say too, thank you to @theauthor.agency for sending your emails! I found this book in a "release day" email and am so glad I did!
Laura Beth has created something truly beautiful with the first book in her new Copper Ridge series. This story is filled with so much heart—tender, comforting, and emotionally grounded in a way that settles into your bones and stays there.
Grayson and Holly are just two very normal people, each struggling in their own way, who collide at exactly the right—or maybe wrong—time. On the worst day of Dr. Holly Carrington’s life, a country boy lost in the city quite literally runs into her on a snowy sidewalk. They share a coffee, a moment of connection, and then walk away… or so they think. Months later, fate intervenes again in Copper Ridge, where Holly—burned out, anxious, and questioning everything—finds herself stitching up the small-town rancher who never quite forgot her.
Grayson Hart is everything you want in a book boyfriend. Thoughtful, kind, quietly steady, and rugged in that effortless farmer-boy way, he can lift hay bales and baby calves without breaking a sweat—but it’s his gentleness that truly steals the show. A cinnamon roll with a spine of steel, Grayson rescues cats, protects horses, adores his family, and loves unapologetically, heart first. He’s the definition of a soft hero done right.
Holly’s journey is just as compelling. As a city girl and trauma doctor drowning in expectations, her burnout and anxiety feel real, nuanced, and thoughtfully handled. Watching her step onto the farm—and completely out of her comfort zone—is both adorable and laugh-out-loud funny, but also deeply rewarding. I loved seeing her rediscover peace in the wide-open fields of Copper Ridge, alongside stubborn farm animals and a man who always puts others first, and learning that it’s okay to be cared for too.
The Hart family only adds to the magic. Three generations of warmth, chaos, and unconditional love make Copper Ridge feel like home, and the groundwork for the rest of the series is set up beautifully. Lukas and his heavy past, Theo with his playboy energy, and Harper—with her mysterious suit daddy—already have me counting down to their stories.
Heartfelt, cozy, and quietly swoony, this story wraps you up like a quilt and reminds you that sometimes the simplest connections are the ones that change everything.
Tropes & vibes:
City girl in a small town Soft heroes who communicate Mental-health-positive romance Found family dynamics Slow burn with a satisfying payoff
If you love soft heroes who fall first, heroines healing in their own time, and small towns that hold you close, this book is absolutely for you. 💛📚
Thank you so much as always to Laura Beth and The Author Agency for the advanced review copy. All opinions are my own.
In the most adorable meet cute, Holly and Grayson literally run into each other in the street on what is arguably the worst day of Holly’s life. Grayson, a total stranger, invites her to a coffee to calm down and hear her out but she has to run out. They never even got the other’s name. Fast forward a few months, when Grayson finds himself in a local clinic to stitch up a wound he got working his farm, he about shits himself when the doctor that walks in is none other than Holly herself. Serendipity baybay! Except that big ass engagement ring she’s wearing, yikes. The two of them end up reconnecting at the hands of some meddling friends and my man Grayson shoots his shot when he learns she actually ended her engagement. What ensues is an opposites attract, city-girl-meets-country-boy swoonfest wrapped up in Holly trying to find the best path for herself despite her crippling anxiety.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ 4.25 Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
The magic of this book is the way the author balances softness with steamy, smoking heat. Big boy Grayson is kind and soft hearted and open, while also being a filthy beast in the sheets. (BLESS.) Holly’s anxiety is so relatable and I love seeing a super successful and smart woman figure her shit out. A good deal of the book is spent with her trying to figure out that the right fit for her is perhaps not the path that was carved for her at a young age by her parents. I downright loved these two characters.
This is the author’s first foray into small town, her prior backlist all being medical romances. I think it largely worked, especially the MMC being a country boy. There’s a lot of setup for future books so it does spend some time on side characters that isn’t necessary to keep the primary storyline moving forward. I am excited for the next book in the series where a certain side character gets his redemption arc.
🫡 Tropes deployed: small town, opposites attract, city girl/boss bitch FMC, big boy, anxiety rep
Thank you to Laura Beth and The Author Agency for an eARC. The below review and honest thoughts are my own.
Dr. Holly Carrington is having the worst day of her life, she's had a panic attack in the middle of a busy ER shift, she has to leave work, her fiance doesn't care, and she almost gets knocked over by a stranger. The stranger is man with kind eyes who brings her to a local cafe to just listen. Holly has to run and neither of them catch each other's names. Holly and her fiance eventually end things and work insists she return slowly, so she takes a position at a clinic, and who walks in but the kind stranger, Grayson. She takes care of a cut on his arm and soon their lives continue to intertwine. After a house call, they decide to keep seeing each other and Holly wants to know more about the farm. Feelings continue to grow from there and now Holly has to make a choice between these two very different lives in the city and the country.
This was absolutely everything I love in a romance and then some. I love how Holly and Grayson kept coming into each other's lives repeatedly like it was just meant to be and the universe was trying to tell them something! They felt like real people, less like characters. Reading about Holly's mental health struggles broke my heart, but Grayson's warmth and kindness put it back together. I love when an author puts real mental health representation into their book and then takes the time to do it accurately and with gentle care. Holly and Grayson's slow burn relationship was absolute perfection and who doesn't love a small town with found family elements! Great side characters (including hilarious goats!) rounded out this novel, setting us up for a fantastic series! Friends have been telling me to read Laura Beth for years and I have always wanted to, but never got around to it...well now I have a backlog to read ASAP while I wait for Book 2 in the series.
Holly Carrington is living her dreams, working as a successful trauma doctor at a prestigious hospital, life couldn't be more perfect. Then the unthinkable happens, a panic attack hits at work and she is physically unable to do the job she loves, so she's forced to step away for a bit. Taking her to a sleepy little town nothing like the town she just left...
Between the pages of Worth the Fall readers will meet a woman who is truly down on her luck, her perfectly constructed life has just fallen apart and she is truly at a loss on how to get it back. She's used to her fast paced trauma hospital work and this little town she's found herself staying in offers nothing of the sort. It does however offer up handsome cowboys though... and that is something she never saw herself taking interest in. But, then again, she has never met a man quite like Grayson Hart!
The moment they meet she is instantly taken with him, he's so unlike the men she usually meets, and there is something very exciting about that. He is a surprise she never saw coming...
This first time read was quite special, the characters had my heart and full attention the moment I met them and I was quite sad to have to say goodbye to them when the last page came. It was refreshing to meet characters not so unlike myself. They were very relatable and easy to connect to, felt almost like family or friends. You can tell the author put a lot of time and care into their development, and it shows on every page. If you like slow burn sweet romances than you have to take a chance on this one, it's words will melt your heart and leave you with a smile! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. Thank you so much, Laura Beth!
“We’re on our way to pursuing happiness, remember?”
Oh my god, this book! I'm not new to Laura Beth's books—I've actually read all of them—but it's incredible how she can still surprise me with her writing! Undoubtedly one of the best stories I've read this year. It felt like a warm hug at the end of a rough day. Which, funny enough, describes a lot of Holly's journey in this book.
I could relate to Holly on a deeper level, truly. It made me really emotional and also made me reflect a lot. I loved seeing her evolution and her path to advocating for herself. I was cheering for her so hard, you have no idea!
And then we have Grayson. Wow. Just... wow! To no one's surprise, Laura has given us yet another book boyfriend. It was like she blended all of her other MMCs and created someone even better—that's Grayson Hart. He's the very definition of the word gentleman. Still, he didn't mind dirtying Holly up a little. Perfect combo.
I loooove how they communicate! It's so refreshing. And she always writes this with perfection. The sweetest relationship! The way everything developed between them felt so natural and slower-paced. You could truly feel them falling in love.
And on top of that, there are such incredible side characters that I really hope they’re getting their own stories in the future. I have to say, I had a hard time with Lukas, but in the end everything made perfect sense, and it was all so well done! I can't wait for what's next in the Copper Ridge Series.
🚜This is a comforting love story that follows months after a meet cute when Holly, a city girl doctor fmc, is working in a rural clinic and has a second chance to connect with Grayson, our muscular big boy rancher with manners and a heart the size of Mount Everest. Plus a stellar capacity for consent, dirty talk and outdoor spicy time. Holly's coping with severe anxiety and Grayson's steadiness and the exceptional love, the warm welcome from his family, and the healing powers found in the natural surroundings of the family farm play a part in her healing.
What to expect: 🏡 Small Town 🩺 City girl Doctor fmc 🐎 Country boy rancher mmc 🧠 Mental health rep (anxiety) 💪 Muscular big boy mmc 🤤 🕜 Slight reverse age gap
Things I loved the most about this book are: 💠 The very normalness of it all. They met, they reconnect, they date. And it's also so pure. And also so riveting to be in their world and feel the love that pours out of them and Grayson's family for each other. 💠 Grayson's siblings -- I want a book for them all!!! 👀 And a prequel novella about their grandparents! 💠 The revenge arc against Holly's trash former fiancée 💠 Outdoor spicy time 🌶️🌶️.5
💭Therapist takeaway: Mental health is not something to be overcome. Sometimes it's a thing we cope with our whole lives and still it can be made immensely easier with the right people by our side who accept and love us wholly and fully for who we are. Also, it's also never too late to change your mind about something if it will make your life healthier and happier.
Content warnings include anxiety & panic attacks, discussion of PTSD and medical emergencies, death of a patient, car accident and injury, challenging relationships with parents
I enjoyed early access to this book for an honest review.
Laura Beth really said “let me heal your heart and melt your bones at the same time,” and I was HERE FOR IT.
Holly?? My sweet, burnt-out, brilliant disaster doctor?? I wanted to wrap her in a blanket and guard her peace with my life. The way she hits rock bottom and slowly—SO SLOWLY—lets herself breathe again in this tiny town had me clutching my chest like a Victorian widow. And then comes Grayson Hart.
GRAYSON. FREAKING. HART. Six feet of rancher perfection, worn Levi’s, calloused hands, and a mouth that alternates between soft and sinful?? I swear I had to put the book down to pace the room. The man is steady, patient, filthy, and just… everything Holly didn’t even know she needed. The chemistry?? INSANE. Sparks literally flying off the page. The soft moments? I melted. The tension? I combusted. The steam? I ASCENDED.
And the slow burn??? It’s the kind that hurts in the best way—like “yes, yes, suffer with longing a little more, it will taste even sweeter later.” AND IT DID. SO GOOD.
This book is the perfect mix of healing, fate, small-town charm, and two people finding exactly what they didn’t know they were looking for. And that final choice Holly has to make?? My heart was in my THROAT. I was screaming “CHOOSE HIM, CHOOSE YOU, CHOOSE THIS LIFE.”
If you love: 🌾 City-girl meets cowboy goodness 🔥 Chemistry that could set a field on fire 💔 Healing arcs that feel REAL 👀 A hero who looks at the FMC like she hung the damn moon
Then congratulations—you’re about to fall headfirst.
This was such a delightful read! Laura Beth writes the most caring and swoony MMCs and strong, relatable FMCs. The slow burn was absolutely delicious and the "burn" was very much on fire! The slow and steady building of their relationship was beautifully done, through small gestures, lingering looks and touches.
Grayson and Holly were the most perfect pairing. He was physically strong but so gentle and caring with her. He was also a great listener and a dirty talker. Holly in turn, was a deeply caring and hardworking woman, who suffered from anxiety and was unsure of what to do with her life after her emotional breakdown. In Grayson, she found the love and support she needed to become more self-assured and to begin to heal. He never smothered her but created a safe space for her to simply exist and "breathe". In turn, Holly saw beneath the surface of Grayson's stoic front and the need he had to truly be seen and loved for the gentle giant he was.
I loved the Hart family and how Holly was embraced and welcomed by them and even though Lukas wasn't very nice to her at first, to say the least, their heart-to-heart when he was at his lowest was one of my favourite scenes.
The medical action we got was both thrilling and emotional.
Overall, this was an other gorgeous story by Laura Beth, with a great balance of slow, country life and the fast pace of emergency medicine. Her characters are relatable and all the animal companions, adorable.
- ER doctor x rancher - city girl x country boy - small town - medical romance - big boy MMC - mental health rep (anxiety) - found family - *** on a tractor - slow burn - no third act breakup
Dr. Holly Carrington has had a rough go of things, and finds herself taking a step back from the ER, working at rural clinics instead. However, what she doesn't expect to find is the man who was the bright light on her worst day months ago.
Grayson Hart and his family own the largest ranch in the area, and most days Grayson does much of the work on his own. When an accident brings him into Holly's clinic and he finds the woman he hadn't been able to stop thinking about.... Well it was pretty much game over 😉
Grayson may appear like a big ol gruff, but he's actually a big ol softy with a hard working dad bod. He teaches Holly so much about herself and helps her relax, which is exactly what she needs. My guy is swooony and attentive and never makes Holly feel like she's less than.
One of the best things about Laura's books is how relatable she makes everything. Holly suffers from some pretty significant anxiety, and I know there are so many of us out there suffering in silence. Laura is a pro at writing these medical romances because it's her literal life, and she doesn't place a stigma on anything she writes about. Super invaluable and sets her apart from the rest!
If you're looking for a Greys Anatomy meets Yellowstone type book, Grayson and Holly are right up your alley 😉
When the doctor becomes the patient, Holly is forced to take a break from her career as an ER doctor to deal with her crippling anxiety before she's able to return back to work. As part of an effort to ease her back in, she's taken to helping some of the more rural clinics surrounding Des Moines. While she expected things to be slower paced, she didn't expect Grayson Hart, the man she physically ran into on the day it all fell apart, to show up in her exam room needing stitches.
Grayson Hart is the foreman at his family's ranch and one solid, hardworking ALL man. After keeping Holly upright and preventing her falling into a snow bank, he buys her a coffee before she thinks better of it and sprints out and into a cab. Over the three months that followed, he couldn't stop thinking about her and hoping he ran into her again.
The more time they spend together, the more they both start to realize what was missing in their lives and preventing them from being genuinely happy in their lives. This book is a slooooooow burn. If you aren't prepared for that, then this book isn't for you. But if you're ready to endure, this book will have you feeling good and wishing there was a Grayson in your life.
He is emotionally mature, has a filthy mouth, and seems to always know how to get through to people and make them feel better, even if its at his own expense. This was a great first book in the series and I can't wait to see what comes next out of Copper Ridge!
4 ⭐️- Laura Beth has done it again!! The way she weaves medical topics into her romances are one of my favorite things about her books. This story was soo romantic. I mean the way Grayson had me swooning just from simply calling Holly “baby”.
In this story, you have Holly, an ER doctor, who suddenly suffers from a panic attack and takes a break from working in the ER. She is given time away and works in some rural clinics before returning to the ER. While working in these clinics, she has a run in with Grayson, a rancher. She ends up treating him in one of the clinics and a connections starts to form.
I loved Holly and Graysons dynamic in this book. The love and care that Grayson had for Holly since the beginning of their relationship was everything. I loved the medical parts of this book along with the more spicy moments! Whew, Laura Beth knows how to write amazing spice. Overall, I wanted a bit more of the romance in certain parts of the story but I really enjoyed Holly and Grayson’s story. (Also, loved the mention of the characters from The Bind). I truly never regret picking up a Laura Beth book and I know you won’t either.
Read this if you like: Medical topics in books Rancher/ ER doctor romance Spice 🌶️ 🌶️ No third act breakup Alittle action on a tractor Lots of likeable side characters Mental health rep “Baby”
Oh, the sweetness! These two together are just about perfect. From their Hallmark Channel worthy meet-cute to Holly finally finding herself, it’s just so sweet.
Grayson is the perfect mix of country gentleman and dirty talking cowboy, with just that hint of insecurity. From their very first meeting, he shows Holly all the support and understanding that she hasn’t really gotten from anyone else in her life. He’s there to help her find her way to a life that truly makes her happy.
And she does the same for him. He’s been the steadfast older brother, taking so much on his shoulders and fading into the background for a lot of years, but Holly sees him and what he needs. Taking care of him just the same as he does her. Oh my heart it is so much with the feels … and the steam.
This is the first book by Laura Beth that I’ve read but I’m confident it won’t be the last. Her characters are well developed, feel so real with real issues, and the story is a nicely paced slow burn. It’s got that small town country charm and I want to visit the farm to cuddle the goats & feed the chickens & sit around the dinner table with them all. There are three more Harts that need to find their HEA and I really want their stories ASAP.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.**
This book was such a beautifully written story between two gorgeous characters. I loved the depth in the story without the need for excess drama, a third act break up or anything of the sort. It was a meaningful story with moments of both heaviness and lightness in this book, and it felt like such a good balance of both. I absolutely loved the anxiety and mental health representation too.
I think the premise of this book itself was also just extremely appealing to me. If something isnt working for you, change, it just might be worth it. I loved the messages through this story.
I also really fell for the characters. Imperfect and yet still strong, delicious and left me wanting more.
Grayson, Grayson, Grayson. A man without the typical booktok washboard abs and yet this made him more delicious because he was normal and believable. Such a strong man willing to do anything for his woman, selfless for those he loves. And Holly was just as admirable. Strong in her vulnerability, compassionate to everyone she meets and strong in her convictions. Acknowledging her own anxiety and the effects it was having on her life.
