She loved him before, but can she love the stranger he's become?
He's back from the dead… For five years, Lady Courtney Montague has treasured her grief like a sacred flame. Her beloved fiancé, Lucien Cavanaugh, Viscount Furoe, died a hero in Ireland—or so she believed. Then he walks back into her life as if summoned from her dreams, devastatingly handsome and heartbreakingly alive. But the man who returns is a stranger wearing her beloved's face.
He can't remember her, but she can't forget him… Lucien remembers nothing of his former life—not his family, not his title, and not the woman who still wears his ring on a chain around her neck. All he knows is that he's a widower with a two-year-old daughter, crushing debts, and a practical need for a wealthy wife. Logic says Lady Courtney is the perfect solution. His heart says she's dangerous.
Some love stories deserve a second chapter… Courtney refuses to marry a man who sees her as a convenient arrangement. She wants the impossible—to be loved again by the only man who ever owned her heart. But how do you make someone fall in love with you twice? And what happens when you discover the man he's become might be worth loving even more than the one you lost?
Tropes you'll ✔️ Amnesia ✔️ Second chance romance ✔️ Engaged to be married (past) ✔️ Convenient marriage proposal ✔️ Emotional scars ✔️ Rebuilding trust
A second-chance romance about finding love again when nothing—and everything—has changed.

I admit that I was very curious to see what variation on the theme of “amnesia” this author would write, and I was not disappointed. Courtney and Lucien are two great characters, but the best is yet to come because the next book is about Ashley, and I can't wait!
Thanks to Netgalley for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.
This is book 3 of the series and tells the story of Lucien and Courtney, that has been started in the preceding two books, especially book 2. As the recovery of Lucien from Ireland, and his return to London was central to book 2, and part of Courtney and Lucien's story was told in a concurrent timeline, book 2 absolutely should be read before this one; it should not be read as a stand alone.
Lucien and Courtney were love, and betrothed when, 5 years previous, Lucien left to help in the Irish Rebellion. Courtney and Lucien's family went into mourning, and a spiral downward for his family as his father destroys their estates as he turns to drink and gambling in an attempt to escape his grief. Courtney, after years of grief over her beloved, starts to consider a different path for her own future when she is thrown into an emotional maelstrom again, when Lucien returns alive. But she is heartbroken again on discovering that he has lost all memory of his past, including of her, and while living in Ireland, married and had a child.
A heartbreaking story of two people who lost so much, but with no happy ending on Lucien's return from the dead. He returns with no memory of his past, losing what has become comfortable and familiar to him, including what he believed was a loving, trusting marriage. He is heartsore and wary, especially for his child, as he enters a family and Society he does not know anymore, and now bearing the burden of familial duty and social pressures, as well as a fear of not being able to trust and love again. Courtney grieved for the loss of Lucien, and was getting ready to move on again, when she is given hope again in his return, just to have her heart broken again when he fails to remember her and their previous friendship and love. But she is so patient, and giving by offering gentle friendship and no pressure as Lucien tries to navigate his life again.
A story of second chances, but heartbreaking losses and fears. My emotions were tugged by both Lucien and Courtney's losses and fears, and by how willing Courtney is to stand by his side patiently and with such care for him, rather than protecting herself and her own heart. It would have been so tempting to give up, especially considering what happens in book 2.
What I felt needed to be told more was if Lucien ever recovers any of his past, and an epilogue of their story, as a couple, and as a family.
I am definitely looking forward to the story of Ashley and the Duke of Blackstone, especially considering the role he played and what was revealed about him in the latter part of this story.
We have amnesia, scandal, broken hearts, a precious little girl, questions, doubts, an evil man, night time rides across England, justice for innocent victims and a long awaited HEA.
We found Lucien, Viscount Furoe, lost heir to the Earl of Danvers, in a small village in Ireland, in the story of Lady Farah and Lord Rockwell. He has lost his memory due to a head injury when he was fighting in Ireland. His memory is gone, but his family's predicament has made it imperative that he marry a large dowry. Can you imagine thinking your life is one thing, only to discover it was not only a lie, but you were part of the ton in London? Can you imagine being introduced to your own family that have been grieving your death and not seeing even a glimmer of a memory of them?
Lady Courtney has loved, and mourned, Lucien and now he is back. He is no longer the Lucien she knows, but she is still drawn to him. How hard it must be to look at the man and outwardly he is the same, but inside he has changed and doesn't remember you, your time together, or the love you shated.
Together Lucien and Courtney work to start over, create a new understanding and appreciation for each other. It was nice seeing them work through all the thoughts, doubts, issues and hopefully come out the other end together. There is someone who doesn't want them to end up together and feels justified in doing virtually anything to keep them apart and come out with Courtney's money and position in society.
The other characters from the series play prominent roles in helping Lucien and Courtney along their journey. It is always lovely to visit with old friends. The side story of the investment wager is wonderful and I am anxious to see the women prevail and see the men at a loss.
This series has been wonderful and I am looking forward to the next story. I am looking forward to hopefully seeing two injured hearts coming together and finding a very deserved HEA.
Disclaimer: I have received a copy of this book from the publisher through NetGalley. I am voluntarily leaving a review and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is the third book in The Season of secret series and I thought it was fantastic. This series is fun, entertaining and just downright delightful. The interaction between all of the characters in all of the books makes this series really fun and enjoyable to read.
In the previous two books we got a glimpse of Courtney and Lucien. In the first book we read about how Lucien died and Courtney was still grieving him after 5 years. Then in the next book we find out that he is alive but has amnesia and can only remember the last 5 years of his life in Ireland. He has no memory of his life both then or of his engagement to Courtney.
Now we get to read about Courtney and Lucien possibly reconnecting. Their story was both emotionally heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I really enjoyed that instead of trying to remember what they had before Lucien lost his memory, they both decided to move forward and create something new together again. Courtney accepted the new Lucien instead of trying to make him into what he was before. While Lucien learned that Courtney was someone he could trust after he had lost his trust in people. I thoroughly enjoyed their story and loved how they were able to move passed the past and create a new life together with a new love for each other.
I also enjoyed reading the epilogue about Courtney and Lucien’s wedding, but we also got a glimpse of what was coming in the next book of the series. I am now looking forward to reading the next book in the series!! I highly recommend this book and the entire series!!
For five years, Lady Courtney Montague has treasured her grief like a sacred flame. Her beloved fiancé, Lucien Cavanaugh, Viscount Furoe, died a hero in Ireland. Then he walks back into her life as if summoned from her dreams, devastatingly handsome and heartbreakingly alive. Lucien remembers nothing of his former life. All he knows is that he's a widower with a four-year-old daughter, crushing debts, and a practical need for a wealthy wife. This book runs alongside book 2 so I’d recommend reading that first to fully appreciate this book. Another well written wonderful romance from one of my must read authors. I loved both Lucien & Courtney, he’s thrown into a world he has memory of, his father in his grief has gambled away the family’s fortune so Lucien has to find ways to fill the coffers. Courtney has loved Lucien for years & no one has come near to him. I loved how she was strong, supportive & caring never becoming bitter but wanting to know the new Lucien. I loved how they gradually came to know each other again, their chemistry sizzled. It takes a near disaster to make Lucien realise his feelings. The epilogue also gave a preview of the next book I voluntarily read and reviewed a special copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own
I loved the story of Courtney and Lucien. I was waiting to see how their story would end when they were introduced in the previous book. Their love story was shown through memories of their time in the past as well as their new beginning. Courtney was a heroine who showed real emotions. You saw her hurt as well as her compassion and understanding. She was a well written character. Lucien was a perfect hero. He was well developed showing his anger and frustration while showing his struggles with love. The friend group was supportive and entertaining. While there serious issues in the novel, there was also humor. If you like stories with an original plot, a darling daughter, a hero with lost memories, secrets and lies, villains who get what they deserve, second chance love and romance, steamy encounters, and a HEA, this is the book for you. The epilogue even offers a peak into what is to come. I can’t wait to read the next book. It can get here soon enough. I’m so curious already.
I received an ARC of this book from Net Galley and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
This book has a refreshing plot that is so much deeper and more realistic-feeling than the usual superficial and fluffy Regency novel. The fact that Lucien has amnesia and spent the past 5 years on a poor farm in Ireland gave him a whole new perspective on British high society when he returns to London. He is no longer the carefree philosopher who is the only heir to the Earldom, but he now understands how the rest of the world lives. I enjoyed the fact that Courtney, his previous fiance, is still in love with him but she now has to decide if she loves the new Lucien. I also liked Lucien's disdain for some of the strict rules of the Ton in society and his ability to ignore them at times. He also has the burden of building back his family's estate after his alcoholic father gambles it nearly dry. It all felt real to me and there is action and suspense that builds to a very satisfying ending. The characters are well developed and very endearing, except of course for the bad guys. There are strong women and Lucien's precocious daughter and late "wife" from a brothel added a lot of depth to the story. Not everyone in London plays nice. Although you can read this book alone, it would be better to read the books that preceded it to understand the whole plot. I volunteered to read and review an early copy.
This is notably better than book 2 which I felt was very stilted and rushed. Here we finally get to Courtney and Lucien’s story, which is a second chance romance and has been hinted at since book 1. I mostly felt that this book did not have the repetitive and somewhat disjointed feeling of this author’s previous books in the series. I do think at times she omits chapters that should exist in favor of too much exposition or repetition of subplots that have already been discussed. A little more tight editing would make this much smoother. With regards to the story I thought it was relatively well done for an amnesia subplot. Some of the side conflicts and villain subplots took away from the romance, as well as heavy setups for the next book in the series. Nevertheless I’ll be down to read the next book and see if she continues to improve!
Lady Courtney’s Second Chance is a captivating historical romance filled with emotion, suspense, and second chances. When her former fiancé Lucien returns after five years of being presumed dead—burdened with memory loss and a child—their reunion is anything but simple. Courtney and Lucien must navigate old wounds and rediscover their love, even as an enemy determined to destroy Lucien threatens everything they’ve rebuilt.
Bronwen Evans weaves a heartfelt story with just the right touch of intrigue to keep readers engaged. I truly enjoyed this installment and am eager to read more, especially the upcoming tale of the duke and Lady Ashley.
Highly recommended for fans of romantic suspense and Regency second‑chance love stories.
Amnesia, Secrets & Villainy. I have been eagerly awaiting this story in the series and for Courtney to get her HEA, though I was disappointed that even in the epilogue Lucien never recovered any of his memories. Perhaps that will be a side note in another story, I do hope so. The story involves the couple coming to know each other now, as both have been changed by the events of the last five years, and deciding whether they have a future together. However a villain is determined to destroy both their lives and the lives of those they love… I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Our hero in this historical romance suffered an injury that cost him all memory of his life before. Now he has to return to that life and try and cope with all the complications that come with it. Our heroine has waited for five years, but the man that returned from the dead is nothing like he was before. A story full of emotion, danger and hope. This is part of a series where we meet several characters from previous books. While you don't have to read them all to enjoy this one, it is better to have read at least the one before this. They are all exciting. Great fun.
Love lost, Love Regained. A tale about love that transcends time, distance and amnesia. Although they had to rediscover each other, their bond can only grow stronger..Not even the villain who would threaten them can come between them. Lovely read and can’t wait for the next book in series between Lady .ashley and the .Duke of Blackstone!
I received an .ARC of this book and leaving my review voluntarily.
Courtney is shocked when Lucien, her dead fiance from five years ago, shows up. He apparently lost his memory and married, had a child, and was a widower. He still does not remember his past. Threatened by secrets from his past, they must learn to trust each other. Can they find love again? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Dragonblade Publishing for my honest review.
A tempestuous story of love and loss. Courtney mourns her list love for 5 years. Lucien loses his memory after fighting in the Irish rebellion. Both have slowly found ways to live, until they are reunited. The writing is exquisite. The pacing is perfect. The conflicts are many. One by one, Courtney and Lucien try to find their way through them. This one is hard to put down!
After losing his memory Lucian and Courtney go through trials to get back the love they once had. Though secrets and threats make things very hard and trying, they manage to find love. What they found was even stronger than what they had before and build a new life! Fantastic read. Absolutely loved the story.
What stands out to me in this book is all of the banter with a few misunderstandings. I love banter and talking in stories. You can feel the tension of the reconnecting to each other between Lucien and Courtney. I thought this was a lovely story of second chances at love.
He was her intended that she thought died years ago. He’s back, having lost his memory and living a lie in Ireland. Will they fall in love again? If you like flowery words and sweet declarations of love; then you’ll like this novel.
This is a adventure that two people are on to see if they get their second chance at love. Its filled with heartbreak and discovery in whats important. I loved that characters from previous books were part of the adventure. Just love this one. Can't wait to see if there is more to come
A wonderful second chance story filled with emotion, caring and respect. A love lost but found again, different and stronger. Courtney and Lucien have a strong connection and same values. It was a lovely journey to their deserving happily ever after.
