Abby Gauthier is close to getting everything she's worked so hard for. The band she manages, Sinister Riot, has been offered a major record contract. But it comes with a catch: the band must add Eli Jamison, winner of the talent show The Spotlight, to the lineup.
Devon Sinclair is the singer of Sinister Riot, and he's Abby's best friend. She's in love with him, but fears she'll lose him if she makes the first move. Devon knows adding Eli to the band is a mistake, and he's right. Eli's interested in more than just making an album. He wants to take control of the band, and he wants to get to know Abby better. A lot better. When tensions between Devon and Eli threaten to destroy Sinister Riot, Abby must act on her true feelings or lose everything she's ever wanted.
Kristen Strassel is far cooler than she’ll make herself sound in this bio. She enjoys spending time with the voices in her head—nudging the characters toward those bad decisions and a happily ever after. When she’s not writing, she’s often still in the land of make-believe—doing makeup for film and television. And when she’s not doing any of that, she enjoys making her house look like a Pinterest board, watching football, and road trips to the middle of nowhere.
I really enjoyed this book! Abby and Devon have been best friends for a long time and Abby has been secretly in love with Devon. She manages his band and she's his biggest supporter. Devon is the lead singer for his band Sinister Riot. He's a bit of a manwhore. When he is forced to add a new member to his band he isn't happy about it. He's even more unhappy when the new member, Eli, takes an interest in Abby. I love a good friends to lovers story and when you add in a rockstar, it's pretty much perfection. I couldn't put this book down. It was a fast paced story and it wasn't as angsty as I was expecting. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone (full disclosure -I have not read the other books in the series but plan to.) I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who loves a rock star romance!
A story about two best friends who finally take the next step, Too Many Reasons was a great New Adult read. It had sweetness, a bit of spice, and some angst to go along with it. I liked it and I thought it was a nice read.
Both characters were good. Abby was kind, yet determined, and unwilling to dance to anyone else's tune. Devon was sweet and totally devoted to Abby, whether they were friends or more. I liked them both.
Eli was a good character as well. I was hoping he wouldn't just me a total jerk there to stir up trouble but, even though he inadvertently did, I still ended up liking him.
The romance was okay. To be honest, it felt shallow because I didn't get much of a development on either of the romances. They just started and stopped with little build up to them. But, it was still good overall, a mix of sweet and spice.
The plot kept me interested. However, my one other issue with the book was that the story seemed just a little off to me, like it needed to be tightened up, with a clearer set of conflicts and plot points. It wasn't anything major but it was enough that I felt it. But, I still did enjoy the story and the ending was perfect for the characters.
Too Many Reasons was an enjoyable New Adult romance and I liked it. Romance lovers, you might want to check this book out.

Abby Gauthier and Devon Sinclair have been best friends since middle school. Over the years, they piece together a band, Sinister Riot, and thanks to Abby’s tireless promotion of them, the band is now a local fan favorite of the New Orleans music scene. While going to college to pursue an entertainment management degree, she books their shows, manages their social media presence and sells their merchandise at their shows. Devon is pursuing his dream. Sinister Riot is his and Abby’s youthful brainchild, and he pours his heart and soul into the band. With Abby as his best friend and his rock, he has somewhere to call home when it all falls to pieces. Abby, constantly reminded by her sister that she has to stop living her life for Devon, is also secretly in love with Devon. It pains her greatly when he plays the field and comes running to her when it falls apart. Unwilling to risk what they have for what they might have, Abby doesn’t tell Devon how she feels. Then the new band member, Eli Jamison, shows her he’s interested in her outside the band, and for the first time, Abby is interested, too. “Devon Sinclair sucked the single right out of me.” During one of their shows, a representative approaches Abby from a record label. That conversation is the break they’ve been hoping and praying for, but it comes with a catch. Ultimately, that catch changes everything for the band. The band will have to make concessions, and only time will tell if those concessions will have been worth it. I liked Abby. She was an interesting mix of mature qualities in someone so young. She had a vision for the band and focused on pursuing it, she was selfless in her work on behalf of the band, and she completely believed in them. It was hard, however, to watch her find her footing in life as she struggled to have that same belief in herself and her abilities. She had trouble recognizing her own self worth, and it was frustrating at times to see her so unsure of her value to and place with the band. It didn’t help that her sister and parents told her often that she was living for Devon and that pursuing a career in music entertainment management wasn’t realistic or worthwhile. For Devon, it took him the complete collapse of his dream to help him figure out what he really wanted. He was on the verge of losing Abby, and his antics during that time were the catalyst to the wake up call he needed. Having been replaced in the band that was his dream and his brainchild was a nearly devastating blow, but Devon really surprised me. He could have easily buckled under that defeat, but instead he did the smart thing and focused – on his music and on his relationship with Abby. Together, they did what they always did. They came together, they moved forward and they started from scratch. This book is a standalone novel within Strassel’s Spotlight series. She is a talented author, and this book is very well written with likeable characters, a realistic and interesting plot and a sweet romance between the main characters. While not at all a cliffhanger, this book has a fade to black feel to the ending. 3.5 smooches from me! ~ Danielle Palumbo

Abby is the manager of Sinister Riot, and has always been in love with the lead singer, Devon. When Sinister Riot is forced to add Eli into their band, a move that could make them big, tensions are high. Will Sinister Riot finally make it to where they want to be?
This book is for fans of band-based romance, and love-triangles! The author made the relationship between each individual character very differently. Which I found extremely refreshing, because not everybody got along with everybody - and it wasn't the typical situation where a protagonist comes along, and you feel like he would be the 'annoying one' throughout the entire book. No, it was nothing like that. Everybody had their plus points, as well as their bad sides.
This is the first time I've read any book by Kristen Strassel, and I was pretty impressed, to be honest. The book was really well written, and the characters were realistic. The only reason I won't be giving this book four stars is because I'm not too keen about love-triangles. There were parts of the book where I found myself wanting to smack someone. I won't spoil it for you, but I would definitely recommend this book for anyone looking for band romance, as well as, a little something different!
Three Stars!
PS: Do you have to read the first book in the series in order to enjoy this one? Nope. Not at all, Too Many Reasons is great as a stand alone novel.
Too Many Reasons is the second novel in The Spotlight Series. The main character, Abby, is the manager of Sinister Riot and BFFs with main singer Devon. Abby and Devon have been friends for years. They started the band together; with the band's talent and Abby's dedication they're finally getting a record deal. One catch, Eli Jamison. He was one of the previous winners of The Spotlight and the record label decides yes, they'll sign Sinister Riot but only if they take him.
This creates some tension in the band, mainly because of Eli's interest in Abby. You see, Abby is head over heals in love with Devon and pretty much everyone knows it. Problem is, Devon doesn't see Abby that way. At least, not until Eli comes along. Abby and Eli start dating. She becomes torn between being loyal to Eli and her love for Devon. Abby's life and things with the band start falling apart. What's she supposed to do?
I loved this book. Even more than Secondhand Heart, the first in the series. Kristen Strassel kept me tense. The characters are realistic and really come into their own as the book progresses.
Now this book is a sequel, so is it necessary to read Secondhand Heart before this one? No, I don't think so. Strassel does reference the happenings of the first book late into this one and even though it is a bit of a spoiler, I don't think it'll ruin the book for you. Both books in the series stand alone very well. But do I recommend you read Secondhand Heart? Well yeah. Read that book. Read this book! If you want steamy rock n roll romance you won't regret it!
I tend to stay clear from Rock star novels, since it hits way too close to home and brings back hurtful memories. Then again, I can never pass up reading a Kristen Strassel novel. This book made me feel many different emotions and I loved every minute of it! This was such a great easy read, I started reading and couldn’t believe it was already time to put in down for the night. If I could have stayed up all night reading, I would have. I needed to know what happened next, and Ms. Strassel defiantly kept me on my edge of my seat. I did not see some things coming in this book, or some of the confessions. Character wise I loved Abby, I could relate to her so much, from wanting to work in the music industry to being in love with a musician who is my best friend. Then there was Devon, I went through so many emotions with him, I hated him then I liked him. Eli was one character I had very mixed emotions about, loved him and hated him and then liked him again. I do not agree with many things he did in the story, but I think he redeemed himself a little. Even though this is the second book in the Spotlight Series, it can be read as a standalone. I have not read, Secondhand Heart, but I did read Trouble with Bree, and there is a situation that happens in the book this book that involves characters in the first two. Again, it does not affect reading Too Many Reasons if you haven’t read the other two. I cannot wait to read another book by Kristen Strassel!!!
I have to say that I liked the cover of this book and was intrigued by the premise. Yes, rock and roll band stories have been done over and over and with a love triangle, but something about this one made me think that it would be a bit different. And it did not disappoint me at all. It was the kind of book that had me ignoring other things I could have and probably should have tonight. I The romantic pull between Devon and Abby was intense and wickedly hot. And it was a pull that was noted on both sides. Even when he was with other girls, you knew he really just wanted her all to himself but somehow did not trust himself. And whereas the idea of Eli and Abby was sweet, you knew it was doomed from the start. I really liked how the author did not prolong the main characters coming together and give them unbelievable obstacles to overcome. I mean they had enough already. And I loved that that was not the end of the story, but it still went on from there. And the plot was good and fun to read from that. Yes it was a romance but it was also a fun book with drama all its own without it only being romantic drama. Overall I would give this one a four star rating as when one shirks their other responsibilities to be able to finish the book, it deserves at least a 4, right?

Too Many Reasons is the first book I've read by this author, but it won't be my last! Abby is friend and band manager of Sinister Riot. She and lead singer Devin Sinclair have been friends for years. They get each other in a way no one else does. Abby has feelings for Devin that are more than just friend feelings. But she doesn't want to lose her best friend or come between the band, so she keeps her feelings to herself.
Sinister Riot gets the chance of a lifetime when offered a contract. But that contract comes with stipulations, namely Eli Jamison. Eli wants Abby for himself, but Abby is torn between her love for Devin and this new found crush on Eli.
What happens when emotions start running high? When the bonds of friendship are tested to the very end? And will Sinister Riot make it to the top?
Kristen Strassel managed to have me on the edge of my seat as I tried to guess what was going to happen next. And then she threw in a whopping heat of steamy tension, and I was done for! If you're looking for a new rockstar romance to check out, then I recommend reading this book!
I'm not much of an NA reader, but I really liked this one! Abby and Devon felt real to me, like they were people I could have gone to school with. I also liked the more toned down approach with this book. There's a lot of sexual tension, a lot of time spent building that tension between the characters, and a perfectly romantic execution. Well done.
Received from BDSMreviews.com for an honest review. There is no BDSM in this story the sex is more romantic.. Devon and Abby have been friends for years, he's a singer and writer and they worked together to create and put together the band. But Devon has always treated her as a best friend and she's always loved him wanting more. Things change when they get a record deal, shaking both of them out of status quo.

Hmmm.... This book.. it simply wasn't for me. While the dialogue and pacing was pretty good, everything else was rather messy.
For a book that's supposed to be about a band, I don't know much about them, other than who's in it, and who manages it. The whole thing felt very unrealistic. Lots of characters were thrown together without really establishing who they were, making things somewhat confusing. In a way, this novel felt like a run-on sentence; everything is jumbled together, and you miss the point while searching for the commas or periods to break it apart.
The way that everyone fawned over Abby the whole book was rather irritating. Every character, other than her mean sister, blew smoke up her ass for most of the book. I'm all about giving credit where credit is due, but come on... anyone can negotiate with a couple bars for some gigs. It happens all the time. The book felt less about the band's success and more about Abby's every move, which I didn't really like. Especially when said character claims that her life revolves around the band, yet she skips countless practices and such because of one guy.
Abby never changed. Everyone raves about her being this proactive girl, but when it comes to her future, she sat on her ass waiting for something to be handed to her. She had the same worry from the start of the book to the very last chapter, and it really drove me wild. Yeah, lots of people don't know what's going to happen after college, sure you're not going to do EXACTLY what you want after you graduate, hell, that may not happen for YEARS! She wasn't realistic or rational at all about her future. And as for her parents and sister peddling the movie business on her as the "better, more realistic choice." HA! I'm sorry, but that's bullshit.
I simply wasn't feeling this one. Everything appeared slapped together rather than pieced together like a puzzle. While I didn't hate this book, I'm unsure if I will pick up another by Kristen Strassel.
If you are looking for a new unrequited New Adult romance to read, then Too Many Reasons is the book for you. It starts off with of course two longtime best friends Devon and Abby. Devon is the Rock Star and the guy who sleeps around and has countless girlfriends, he is also the guy who knows that if he is ever in trouble - he can always rely on Abby. Abby is the best friend, she has since she could remember had a crush on Devon. She believes that one day, he will realise that she has been there all along and will dump his girlfriends and groupies and she will be his "one". Her sister Mallory calls her delusional. Enter a record deal , the catch though is that the band must open a spot for Eli Jamieson - he won the Spotlight competiton in Book #1. The band gets off to a rocky start, but soon things start to settle but what will happen though when Eli starts to take a romantic interest in Abby and soon tension starts to build up between Devon and Eli. Why though , as Abby knows Devon isn't interested in her romantically - or is he ? Is this the step needed for Devon to wise up and realise what has been in front of him all this time or has Abby reached the end of her Too Many Reasons and Excuses for why Devon doesn't want her and decided that now is the time for her to be happy and choose Eli ?
Who will Abby choose and which guy will she end up with ? Reading this book did make me wonder though, how many times we have made excuses and reasons on why our best guy friend, the crush won't date us. I know it's crossed my mind before when I was younger but sadly my childhood crush and best friend committed suicide when were 18.
4 stars for book 2 in the Spotlight Series by Kristen Strassel. This book is about a new set of characters and is based in New Orleans. Abby is in her last semester of college and is trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life in more ways then one. She has been suffering in silence for 8 years while she watches the man she is in love with randomly hook up with different women and then come crying to her when it doesn't work out. Watching Devon with these women wouldn't be so bad if she could keep her distance but not only is he the only man she has ever loved he is also her best friend. Abby has been the unofficial manager and head cheerleader for Devon's band Sinister Riot and once she graduates in the next month she will actually have the degree to become the band's official manager. Abby is at a crossroads trying to figure out if it's best to go on the road with Sinister Riot or to try and find another job in the music industry. Out of no where the band is offered the opportunity to work with Eli Jamison a previous contestant on the Spotlight and with Eli comes a recording contract that the band can't refuse. Eli brings not only vocal / guitar talent to the band but he also has an attraction for Abby that creates some drama for the band too. This book has plenty of angst and drama but sweet and tender moments too. Overall it was a good mix of emotions but it was geared much more towards Abby and how she was on her path to self discovery as opposed to a new adult romance.

Too Many Reasons is the third book in the Spotlight series. It can be read as a standalone as we follow two different characters in each book. However, you could be spoiled if you do not read them in order.
I have a mixed feeling regarding this book. Call it a love-hate relationship if you will. I love the relationship between the two main characters. I've read a ton of best friends to lovers books and not many have met my expectation. This book has definitely done it. I appreciated the development as the story progressed. Additionally, I loved the amount of support and determination Abby and Devon had for each other. They weren't trying to figure out their relationship but career as well.
However, there were bits that annoyed me. There is a minor love triangle but it doesn't play a huge role in the book. Although I knew that relationship was bound to fail from the beginning. Another issue that rubbed me the wrong way was Abby's insecurity. Despite the members compliments, she was uncertain and unsure about her capabilities as a manager. She's done it for quite some time. I expected her to get over it quicker than she did in the book. Nonetheless, I liked the ending and how it all resolved, too well I might add.
All in all, this was a rather decent book with great developments in the characters. Not the best new adult contemporary I've read, but I still enjoyed it.
It's another great addition to The Spotlight series. With a fun cast of characters, a storyline that keeps you wanting more plus some talented writing, Too Many Reasons will take you on an up and down ride through Sinister Riot's entry into the mainstream music world as well as Abby and Devon's relationship (with a bit of Eli thrown in for some added drama).
Abby makes a great female lead being strong-willed, knowing what she wants to do with her life, and working hard to make it happen. Devon-definitely swoon-worthy, and you really feel for him with everything that he goes through with the band's upheaval. Eli-at first, so sweet...and then, not so much...but in the end, really a great guy. You KNOW exactly who Abby really belongs with, it's just the getting there that's the dramatic part.
The story did keep my interest the whole way through, and flowed really well so that I flew right through the book. The author does a good job with the relationships between all of the characters, and finds just the right balance between sweet and steamy. And I liked all of the characters, though Abby's sister Mallory did become a little annoying from time to time.
Too Many Reasons was a 4-star read for me, and I'd recommend it for contemporary romance fans who like a bit of rock star action in their stories.
**I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review** Abby loves Devon, who is also her best friend. She's known him for 8 years. Mallory is Abby's sister and wants to pursue film production. Devon had been Abby's muse since the 8th grade. Devon's band's name was Sinister Riot. Abby did all of the promo and bookings for the band. Eli was a guitarist who had been this season's winner of Spotlight. Devon and the band had to accept Eli for the record deal. Eli asked Abby if she needed a ride to Moe's, another band member who was throwing a party to celebrate the record deal. Eli asked her why Devon told him she was off-limits and to stay away from her. Eli gave Abby a ride home and asked her to go out with him and she agreed. Abby was a loyal, true-blue person who loved the music world. She could be stubborn or sweet. She knew what she wanted in her professional life and never gave up on her dream. It was great to see the twists and turns it took to give her the dream job and guy. Devon was a guy whose soul was in his music. He started a band and all that entailed. He was very talented and artistic. He was sweet but also the epitome of rock and roll. He grew with the twists and turns of the story to make him a better man. I loved this story and the plot. It was a great book. I highly recommend it.

Abby manages the struggling band Sinister Riot. Devon, her BFF and boy crush is the lead singer. She has been in love with him since high school. He, however can't seem to recipate the same feelings and chases EVERY other skirt while she sit back and watch.
With all of Abby's hard work the band finally gets notice by a major label, they are introduced to Spotlight winner, Eli singer and guitarist. The label signs them and want to replace one of the members with Eli.
Meanwhile, Abby is struggling with where she fits in with all the new changes and how she can change the relationship she has with Devon to something more. Eli takes notice of Abby and she realizes what she has been missing by not dating and waiting for Devon. Trouble is brewing all around with Eli, Devon, Abby and the band. The "Abby, Eli and Devon" drama was played out and all ended well. The problems and drama surrounding the band comes to a head with a surprising and happy ending for all including Abby.
This book is chock full of music industry related business and ties in nicely with the previous book, Secondhand Heart. Not the regular rock and roll band book, it's much tamer.
I was not sure what to think as I began reading Abby and Devon's story. She loves him so much and is completely invested in him and his band, Sinister Riot.
Devon seems to not notice her feelings as he has a skank hanging off him more often than not. He is truly center as her best friend, however. Is there anything more real than Abby or his band? Not for him.
Abby is being told by her sister to find another man. Get a real job. She is so misunderstood by everyone it makes me want to come out fighting on her behalf. She lets it roll off her as she pursues her dream of one day being a part of the music industry in a more solid way.
This is The Spotlight Series book # 2 and these characters do a lot of growing in this book. Read more about this series at Goodreads.
The development nearly killed me. The characters had to get through one obstacle after another. Finding out what they want for the band. Finding out who they want and love. I was impressed when I saw this.

Oh Kristen Strassel , you keep writing all these fantastic books and I keep falling in love with them. Abby and Devon are life long friends; she manages his band, Sinister Riot and is secretly in love with Devon. You’d think he would have caught on by now but no, he’s a guy. Anyways, when Sinister Riot is forced to welcome Eli into the band, Devon isn’t too happy about it. Sure, he’s supposed to help push them to big time rock star status but not push himself into Abby’s heart. This is definitely a book for rock star fans and fans of a love triangle. Kristen brought different elements to each relationship which makes you fall for both guys. There’s a lot of tension, sexual tension not angsty tension. She builds up each relationship and you actually watch it grow and progress. You want both of them to win her heart and make her happy. But only one can come out a winner. Will it be the best friend whom she’s loved for years or will it be the new guy who came in and tried to sweep her off her feet? You will definitely want to read and find out.
Abby and Devon have been best friends forever and she manages the band he fronts. The band is about to hit the big time, but there is a catch. They have to bring Eli into the band. Eli won a talent show and is part of the contract they want Sinister Riot to sign. Once they do sign everything changes. Wanting to move on from her more than friends feelings for Devon, Abby goes out with Eli. When things don't work out he decides to get even which includes getting Devon kicked out of the band since he knows that Abby is in love with him. When things are at their worst Abby and Devon finally admit their feelings for each other and decide to fight back together.
I really loved Abby and Devon together. Such a fantastic friends to forever story. I wanted to kick Eli really hard for all the trouble he caused, but in the end that took care of itself. I look forward to reading more about Abby, Devon, and the rest of the band.
Copy courtesy of Netgalley Part of a series but can read as a standalone HEA I didnt read the previous book(s) in the series and it was fine. Abby and Devon were best friends. Abby has been in love with Devon since they first met. Devon didn't want to mess up their friendship. I have to admit Devon was not very likable in the beginning of the story. He shared all his girl problems with Abby and was always depending on her to fix things for him. He took full advantage of her and she let him. This in my opinion played a big part in Abby's insecurities. Once she meets Eli, things change. Devon realizes how much he stands to lose. I felt sorry for Eli until he started acting up. The book was actually well written. The was character growth with the main characters and real life situations. Took me a while to get into it because of the mini love triangle. Overall a pretty good read. Wrapped up nicely.
I received a eArc from Netgalley in return for an honest review.
Too Many Reasons is a music based romance novel. Unlike most it doesn't feature a standard male lead and female which was really refreshing. I liked reading about the different outfits and style. There was band drama, a love triangle, and pent-up feelings. Abby is dealing with graduating from University and not having her dreams come through, while having her sister criticize her love life.
The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was the way that Abby was treated by Devon, and how she could just easily forgive him. I really liked the way she acted around Eli, she was almost happier. But I don't want to get too much into the romance and spoil it. I know people like a happy ending but I would have liked to see things not end so predictably, not that it wasn't a good ending.
Note: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I'm not sure why, but it took me just short of forever to get through this book. It wasn't HORRIBLE, it just wasn't a romantic page turner. I found myself annoyed with Abby in a few ways, her wardrobe being chief among them...please, ditch the granny boots! And the description of Devon wasn't a turn on in the least. Tying scarves to his mic, seemed cheesy and too much like an 80's rocker. There also just wasn't enough romance in this book. It felt like it was more of an afterthought than anything. This story revolved more around Abby and her finding her place in the world, so it felt slow and boring to me. I don't know that this should be categorized under romance, it really is more of a women's fiction book when all is said and done.
Abby is the manager of Sinister Riot. her best friend's band. She's also been in love with him forever. She's trying to finish school so she can be part of the music industry but getting an internship has been impossible.
This story is about two best friends searching for their dreams and eventually finding each other. this book was a bit up and down for me. Abby has been in love with Devon for awhile and He in love with her for just as long....i'm confused as to why it took so long to get to the romance. And it just bam there it was. It was okay but I feel like there really wasn't any chemistry with them.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
This book was lacking some things. The thing that fell flat for me most was the romantic relationship between Abby and Devon...as odd as it sounds I felt more chemistry between Abby and Eli. Abby's style seemed kind of immature for me and her and Devon did strange activities like dying each others hair and putting on eyeliner, I'm just not into that whole men wearing makeup thing, so that really put me off. As far as the pace of the story, It was fast paced which I enjoy and there was quite a bit of drama to keep you entertained. This book just wasn't for me but that's not to say its not for everyone.
I really don't know about this. I found Devon to be pretty unlikable at first. Abby seemed like a hot mess. She's supposed to be really dedicated to the band, but other than Devon, the rest of the band doesn't seem to appreciate her very much. She professes to love what she does for the band and she's supposed to be very good at it, but it's hard to buy in to what she really does for the band. It's discussed a lot, but she really doesn't seem to be very knowledgeable when all is said and done. Everything is resolved by luck. And the resolution is too lucky. So lucky that it's unbelievable.
This was a real good written book and it was easy to be interested in the main characters. You couldn't help but pull for the friendship to turn into something more, but then it was easy to start to pull for Eli. Of course Eli shows his true colors and feelings about him quickly changes. Enjoyed the ending and the entire book. *ARC complements of the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
