From the publisher who brought you Fourth Wing comes your next romantasy obsession...

For nineteen-year-old Poet Graves, New Manhattan has always promised safety―if she obeys. Raised within the ruling Houses and betrothed to a powerful heir, she enters Amery Academy knowing her future has already been decided.

But Amery is nothing like she imagined. Its trials are brutal, its loyalties conditional, and its rules designed to expose weakness. As Poet struggles to survive, she must hide the truth that could get her executed: the storms don’t fear her―they answer back.

When a dangerous outsider from beyond the city walls enters the academy, Poet is drawn to him despite everything she’s been taught to believe. He threatens the life she’s been promised. And choosing him could cost her not just her future, but her freedom.

A gripping dystopian romance filled with forbidden power, ruthless challenges, and a heroine who refuses to burn quietly―perfect for fans of Divergent and The Hunger Games.

Includes two bonus scenes from the Hero’s POV

Storm Breaker is an exciting and energizing dystopian romance with lots of twists and turns.

Poet Graves is about to begin her first year at Amery Academy. The renowned school trains young people to be members of the Society - the wealthy and well off who are protected from the electrical storms and served by the governing bodies of New Manhattan. If you don't pass, you don't get to join one of the Houses of Society and are cast out. Poet is keeping a big secret - she is a keeper, and the electrical storms don't affect her, in fact, she craves them. Going against her father's wishes, she wants to train as a Storm Breaker, not a mild society wife. But when she arrives at Amery, a mysterious outsider catches her attention. Rook is not what she expected, and turns out he is hiding secrets too.

So freaking good!! I adored this book. It reminded me why I love YA books so much - the excitement, the tension, the developing romance, and in the heart of it, a young woman trying to find her place in the world. I already loved Nisha's writing, and have read all her books, and was excited to see how she imagined this dystopian world and in a YA setting. I have to say, she absolutely knocked it out of the park. I could hardly put it down. I read it over two nights, only stopping because I had to sleep. I love Poet - she is fighting against the expectations set on her, knowing what is at stake, but she still craves her friends and family. And Rook, he is mysterious but I have a feeling he is incredibly loyal and will support Poet no matter what. The ending left me craving more, and I cannot wait for the rest of this series. I think this will definitely be a favorite book of mine this year.

Thank you so, so much to Nisha J. Tuli, NetGalley, and Entangled: Mayhem Books for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

I have been looking forward to this since the author announced its release! Thank you so much @nishajtwrites and @netgalley for this eARC!

I absolutely loved Poet’s journey in Storm Breaker! She used her trauma and betrayal as strength to keep pushing for a life true to herself…I honestly expected a relapse to either pledge her father’s house or go back to Knox, but she didn’t falter once. I’m so proud and loved rooting for her! She is strong and resilient without traits that sometimes make strong leads feel grating.

The dynamic with her mom was deeply emotional and felt authentic to the complex realities of domestic violence. Though born into comfort and privilege she found her place among the outcasts, and in one another they learned that every story runs deeper than appearance suggests. That theme hits home every time! To her Society friends..I’ll be waiting for karma in book 2 🤭 Or perhaps no revenge because, Rook.

He’s officially invited to my list of book boyfriends. Of course the broody, morally gray, touch her and die I go feral for (showing up at the club 🥵), but how he helped her when she was shunned by everyone else is top tier. Teddy 😭 Yes, he has his secrets, and wasn’t completely honest (again, morally gray), but the overall emotional damage was merciful. The suspense, however, was I was on the edge of my bed. The whole time in that tunnel I was white knuckling my kindle, reading with one eye open, holding my breath and unable to sit still.

I got similar academy vibes to Fourth Wing, while the nightlife and technology gave strong Crescent City energy, and the lab-partner dynamic brought a touch of Twilight nostalgia. It was captivating and fast-paced from start to finish.

The political dynamics in this post-apocalyptic world felt fresh and unlike anything I’ve read before, and the premise behind how “New Manhattan” came to exist and the justification for the Shield’s regime felt incredibly plausible.

I. LOVED. THIS. Thank you again, and I cannot wait to find the truth behind the Shield, Rook’s secrets, what happened to Poet’s parents, and what they know. And Raine 💔

Oh my gosh. Dystopian is back baby!!!!

This book was a BANGER. I started it and could barely put it down, finishing it in less than a day. It was gripping, exciting and extremely fun to read.

Storm Breaker follows Poet Graves, daughter of the Scion of one of the four houses of New Manhattan as she attends Amery Academy. The dystopian world is bleak and lush at the same time, highlighting the difference in classes as well as animosity between factions. There's also outsiders from The Wastes that occasionally attack them, and one has mysteriously shown up to attend the academy this year.

The story is paced perfectly. It's action packed and tense when it needs to be, and there's also room to breathe in the smaller moments between friends and those close to her. The Academy setting and training is exciting and I ate it up. I loved Poet's character and how she refused to just blindly follow along because that's what she was told to do.

I am so excited for this series and cannot wait for others to pick it up!! Thank you so much to Entangled Publishing, Entangled Teen and Netgalley for the ARC.

This book felt totally different from Nisha J. Tuli’s previous work — and yet, somehow, completely her. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect going in, but I was genuinely blown away by how captivating it was. I’ve been looking forward to this story since the moment it was announced, and it absolutely lived up to the anticipation.

This was exactly the kind of book I needed. It’s fun, fast-paced, energetic, and genuinely nail-biting. The character dynamics are especially compelling, and every interaction feels intentional and layered. Without giving too much away, Poet’s journey of self-discovery makes her such a raw and authentic protagonist. Her internal struggle — choosing herself or choosing her family — feels deeply relevant and emotionally powerful.

And of course, the romance? I loved it. As someone who basically reads for the romance, this hit perfectly. There’s a great balance between plot and romance, with tension that builds in the best way. The brooding MMC fits the dynamic so well, and the layers of secrets, trauma, and emotional intensity keep you completely hooked. I was on edge the entire time.

If you’re a fan of Veronica Roth’s Divergent series, you’ll absolutely want to pick this up. I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

A special thank you to Nisha, her team, and NetGalley for gifting me with this eARC in exchange for an honest review. Storm Breaker comes out on May 5, 2026. This dystopian YA romance is one you don't want to miss!

Gripping Dystopian Romantasy!

Page after page Storm Breaker blew my mind…the characters, the world building, the secrets, plus Nisha J. Tuli’s talent of writing deadly trials and slow burn…I don’t even have the words for how outstanding this book truly is.

Storm Breaker is a Dystopian Romantasy set in “New Manhattan,” hundreds of years in the future in a world plagued by deadly storms. The world building in this book is impeccable. The story is told in first person POV by our heroine, as she defies the path chosen for her, including family and societal expectations to forge her own life.

Our unlikely hero is protective and secretive…his motives and goals are unknown to our heroine and the reader adding to the underlying mystery and suspense of the story. We only know our FMCs’ secrets (and they are doozies as well!) and are navigating this deadly world of secrets and lies alongside her. Who can she trust?

What a fantastic start to a series! I am already dying for Book 2.

✨ Dystopian Romance

✨ Resilient FMC who defies family expectations to forge her own way

✨ Protective MMC with secrets for days

✨ Dystopian Society with a divided “elite” and class system

✨ Set in what was once Manhattan, hundreds of years in the future

✨ Adult Divergent Vibes with an added element of Fantasy

✨ Slow burn relationship

✨ Deadly trials

Storm Breaker is Nisha J Tuli's first YA book, and follows Poet Graves in a dystopian Earth roughly 1000 years in the future. This has got academia, trials, slow burn...and it is SO good 🙌
When I say this pulled me out of a reading slump, I mean it pulled me out of the mother of all reading slumps. I've barely been able to read for 2 months now, but I couldn't put this down!
⚡️
Nisha is incredible at giving her FMCs a strong, memorable opening (think Lor and the soap) and this definitely does not disappoint - I cackled at one of Poet's comments at the start. Please look out for it 😂
⚡️
The world is well fleshed out and it's hard not to immediately gravitate towards the characters (or vehemently reject some).
It felt so easy to get swept up in the world and Nisha's writing. The trials especially were exciting and high stakes.
⚡️
I loved watching Poet grow within herself and become stronger. And the chemistry between her and the MMC, Rook is top tier 🙌 and that last 20%?! It had me on the edge of my seat 🤯 I am genuinely so excited for the next book. This book was incredible, and I highly recommend it!!
⚡️
Thank you so much to @entangled_publishing for the ARC via NetGalley and for giving me the opportunity to share my honest thoughts.

Did I expect to launch myself into this book and immediately be wheezing on the floor with the first line? I probably should have with Nisha J. Tuli having already held the place of writing my favourite and most memorable first lines ever. Imagine my surprise with being punched in the face with a new doozy that is getting it’s own medal of incredible first lines - no, I’m not telling you, because 😮‍💨 you need to be whacked right off the bat with this one too for the full effect 😌

Now that we have THAT out of the way, I have notes. AHEM. Hold on, let me get my phone out.

There was a lot of high pitched screeching while reading, particularly when the two characters got anywhere near each other and I was trying my best to be civilized and not yell out “SO KISS”

There’s a line at some point where someone says ‘so do you need a…hug? Or something?” And I’d just like for you to imagine me, in my onesie that has my dogs face all over it trying not to yeet my kindle across the room yelling I NEED A HUG YES.

So, if you love feeling like the above you may want to add this to your list if you like:
Touch her and 💀
”Good Girl”
Forbidden Romance
Dystopian Vibes
Deadly Trials
Elite Societies

🖤 MINI REVIEW 🖤

Fast-paced, page-turning dystopian glamor with a heroine as untamable as a hurricane who will have you cheering for her the whole way through. Equal parts ruthless and romantic, this story crackles and sparks with secrets, betrayals, and twists.

🖤TROPES 🖤

Elite training academy
Post-eco-apocalyptic Manhattan
FMC with trauma
Teddy bear love ('nuff said)
Glitzy city life vs. Wastelands
Trials & competition
Bullies & mean girls galore
Family secrets
Hidden identity
Slowburn with light (and fantastic) spice

🖤 FAV QUOTES 🖤

My fingertips remember his touch, burning like I’ve held them to a candle.
The moment ends, but I catch that single moment of joy in his eyes, and it flips my whole world around.
He’s always beautiful, but this is something else.

“Whatever happens, I’ll protect you, Poet.”
“But you think I’m trouble,” I say, and he smiles.
“Nothing but.”

This is how it always goes.
The shouting.
The blame.
The moment where I’m supposed to shrink and make it stop.
[...] The blade is coming for me.
I have time—just a heartbeat—to understand something.
I am so fucking tired.
Tired of swallowing the pain and calling it peace.
Tired of being the reasonable one.
Tired of bleeding quietly so other people don’t have to feel uncomfortable.

I snap it open and find a needle and thread.
Then I stare at Rook.
“Do you have any idea what you’re doing with that?” he asks.
“No,” I say primly. “But you fixed my bear, and now I’m fixing you.”
“Skies, I’m fucked,” he groans.

Teenage me would have absolutely devoured this book, but even now, I had so much fun with Storm Breaker. I already adore Nisha J. Tuli’s writing, and since this is her first book into the YA space, I was curious to see how I would enjoy the shift. The transition was completely seamless and done perfectly. YA dystopia is back!!

The FMC was incredibly relatable, and I appreciated that the characters actually acted their age (given the world they live in). I also adored the MMC and found their moments together to be so sweet. One of the best parts of the story was the pacing. Even though the plot takes place over a span of 9-10 months, the story felt fast-paced and engaging. I have read quite a few dystopian books lately and found some moments similar, I was never bored and constantly found myself wanting to know what would happen next.

This is a fantastic start to a new series, and I’m so glad I got to dive in early! Special thank you to Entangled for providing the ARC.

I have been intrigued by this book since the teaser emails sent months ago. I also had high expectations because I have yet to be disappointed by Nisha J. Tuli and let me tell you....I was blown away! It has been a long time since I have truly enjoyed a YA book, but this one drew me in from the started.. The characters are diverse, they are likable, they are the right kind of unlikable, they feel so real! The plot kept moving, but nothing felt rushed. The classism was done well, the trauma was expressed thoroughly, the characters arced well (and dipped well, wasn't expecting some to take the turns they did), the trails were excellent! There were some twists I wasn't expecting, and the ending! Wow! I am eagerly awaiting more!

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled: Mayhem Books for giving me the opportunity to read this advance copy.

I am a sucker for an academy!! I am a sucker for trials!! I am a sucker for dystopian!! I AM A SUCKER FOR NISHA J. TULI!! as per Nisha’s style, you are tossed right in with another MEMORABLLLLLE one-liner and the ride just doesn’t end!!

you’re looking at betrayals, slow-burns, trauma (but executed and explained so well, you truly feel for Poet and her journey), and found family!! I loved the concept—storms & sparks as power—talk about INTRIGUING? the other concept that I adored? Freedom vs. Followership—HELLO, IT’S WHAT I TEACH IN THE CLASSROOM! YOU GO POET, YOU GO NISHA!! the romance is hot and the sparks LITERALLY flew, Rooooook, you sexy man, you. Nisha also does such a good job of making you hate characters LOL (looking at you Knox!!)

the last 15% was where it was AT!! Truly Nisha at her finest—I cannot wait for book 2!!

First of all thank you so much for the advance reader copy!

Oh wow! I didn't expect this from our girl Nisha! While I've read Nishas other books this one really hit the spot. Dystopian romantasy! I loved the subtle nods at what the earth once was. Our FMC Poet is absolutely astounding. Great qualities but also a great sense of humor. She really finds herself and grows personally throughout the book. Our MMC Rook , he's our new shadow daddy he's a badass and I love it!

Without giving too much away this book exceeded my expectations and then some. The only thing I didn't love was the cliffhanger! How very DARE you Ms. Tuli!

If you haven't already preordered this, do it! It is so worth it! I've already got my shelf trophy preordered!

Dystopian is so backkkk!!!

I loved this. It was like grown up Divergent. Despite being so different than all of Nisha’s previous works, it stayed true to her authentic writing style, world building, and character arcs. The pacing was so good - the perfect amount of action and romance to keep me hooked the entire story.
I really loved the fmc, Poet. The way that Nisha wrote her traumatic past and the growth that she has throughout the story is really well done. And ofc we looooveeeee a broody mysterious man, & Rook meets all of those expectations. Their slow burn is really well done as well.
I can’t wait to see where this story goes next, the cliffhanger is absolutely criminal!!!

Thank you to the author and to NetGalley for the arc!!

Storm Breaker review. A new upcoming dystopian upper YA romantasy releasing 5th May 2026.

Rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Gripping, addictive, action-packed, dystopian with storm lightening magic powers and a fierce, rebellious FMC.

A forbidden, slow burn romance with a high society Manhattan heiress Poet Graves with outsider/outcast Rook Athira at Amery Academy. I was totally hooked and could not put this book down. It’s giving me high stakes training academy cadet vibes from Fourth Wing and Divergent and set in a post apocalyptic manhattan world/society. I really need book two because that ending was tense, action packed and a cliffhanger!! Fourth Wing readers/fans will love this book.

Thank you to the author Nisha, the publisher and NetGalley for sending me the exclusive eARC to review.

Tropes:
⚡ Enemies to lovers
💜 Forbidden romance
⚡ Secrets
💜 The storms call to her
⚡ Family trauma/abuse
💜 Tending to wounds
⚡ Dangerous trials
💜 Arranged engagement to a powerful heir

"A thrilling upper YA romantasy by Nisha J. Tuli, where Divergent meets THE CRUEL PRINCE in a glittering, storm-wrecked Manhattan where the elite rule through legacy?and one forbidden romance could tear it all apart."

The moment The Cruel Prince was mentioned, I was sold. Immediately. Instantly. No refunds. It’s earned itself a spot on my TBR, but now it has expectations. Big ones. Don’t disappoint me.

I can't breathe. This book had me sat allll the way down. It's enemies to lovers but with such a fresh twist that everything felt new and I could not help but root for these two from the beginning. A fast-paced, breathless lightning bolt of a book, I'm pretty sure this series is about to take over the world.

Thank you to the publisher for providing me with an early copy of Stormbreaker.

This is a new adult dystopian story set in New Manhattan, where rigid rules and a strict societal hierarchy are followed to keep people safe from dangerous Storms. The premise is very interesting, but I think the story relied too heavily on classic fantasy tropes and, somewhere along the way, missed the mark for me. The recommendation in the premise for fans of The Hunger Games and Divergent feels off.

I liked the characters, but the “deadly” trials were somewhat lacking in their portrayal. Based on the description, I expected highly tense scenarios, but that wasn’t the case. That being said, I appreciated how the author explored power dynamics and the duties people perform to keep the citizens of New Manhattan safe. I also enjoyed the pacing and how the story hooked me from the beginning. The ending left me with many questions. I definitely liked this book more than the author’s previous works.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re looking for something similar to The Hunger Games.
