Phenomenal. My brain feels like it’s twisted into a million knots this was SO GOOD. Absolutely my new favorite Alice Feeney book!

Let me start by saying this: I’ve always loved Feeney’s books. She’s literally one of the authors who sits comfortably on my priority list, no matter what. But this book? Oh my gosh. It absolutely blew my mind in the best, most chaotic way possible. I’ve been craving a book that would shake me to my core, something that would completely take over my brain… and this was it.
I’m going to be honest as much as I adore Feeney, her recent books hadn’t been hitting that same sweet spot for me. I kept waiting and waiting for something that would snap me back into that old excitement, and low-key, I was scared this one would miss too. But it didn’t. Not even close. I loved every single second of it. I devoured it so fast because there was just no way I could stop. The grip this book had on me should honestly be studied.
You know those stories that just grab you by the throat, drag you into the plot, and refuse to let you breathe until the very end? Yeah… that’s exactly what this felt like. I may or may not have neglected a few responsibilities just so I could keep reading but can you blame me? It was that good.
Not gonna lie, Feeney truly redeemed herself with this one.

This book kicks off with a woman returning from her run, ready to walk into her house like any normal day… except her own front door suddenly refuses to open. She tries the lock again and again, convinced she’s just tired or slipping but nope. And then the real chaos begins: her husband, the man she’s been married to for years, doesn't recognise her. Like, genuinely looks at her as if she’s a complete stranger.
From that moment on, she’s thrown into this spiraling confusion, trying her best to make sense of what’s happening. She talks to people, reaches out for help, tries every possible angle but instead of clarity, she gets hit with something even wilder. There’s another woman out there who looks exactly like her. Same face, same everything… and she’s pretending to be her. Because of that, everyone around the actual FMC thinks she’s lying, unstable, delusional basically losing it.
The tension only builds when she goes to see her own daughter, hoping at least she will recognise her… and even her daughter looks at her like she’s a stranger. That moment alone had me clutching my chest. And from there? It just keeps escalating, layer after layer, until an even more unexpected twist hits and throws everything into chaos all over again.
Honestly, this book kept serving me plot twists like it was on a mission. I read thrillers like candy, and I genuinely could not predict a single thing. Not one. Every time I thought I had cracked the mystery, the book was like, “lol nice try.” And that final twist? I swear, I did not see it coming. I considered every possible scenario… but this one? Hell no. It shook me straight to my core.
➳ About the characters :-
Not going to lie, nobody does the unreliable narrator trope better than Feeney and this book proved it again. I swear, I couldn’t trust a single character. Not the actual FMC, Eden, definitely not her husband Harrison (the way he acted?? suspicious), and absolutely not Birdy. I mean, be honest… who’s putting their faith in someone name Birdy? And Gabriella, the daughter? Yeah, even she had me side-eyeing every line she said, not that she said much.
Every single character kept dropping suspicious hints, acting weird, or saying something that made me question everything I thought I knew. I was genuinely playing detective at this point, trying to figure out who the real villain was. And the funniest part? The person who actually turned out to be the antagonist was nowhere on my radar. Not even close. I know I’ve said this like a hundred times now, but truly I did not see that twist coming. At all.
The characters were also mildly infuriating at times because they kept drifting away from the actual point, and I wanted to shake them like, “HELLO?? focus??” That little frustration is literally the only reason I’m not giving this book a full five stars. That… and the fact that I’m a tiny bit of a hater anyway.

Not to be biased or anything, but this was the book that fully restored my faith in Feeney. Like… she really said “let me remind you who I am” and delivered. And the fact that I got the ARC? I’m still not over it. I was already planning to buy the book the second it hit shelves, so getting approved for the ARC of my most anticipated read felt absolutely unreal. Peak reader moment fr.
This thriller is a whole whirlwind plot twists, suspense, chaos, drama, the works. Exactly what I needed, especially after my last thriller left me feeling so meh. Maybe I’m just picky or maybe that book wasn’t meant for me, but this one? It hit the perfect spot and showed up in my life at the exact right time.

At what point does Alice Feeney accept responsibility for our whiplash? 🤕
I finished this a day ago and my mind is still spinning…
In My Husband's Wife, Eden Fox returns home to find another woman living in her house and claiming to be her husband’s wife, unraveling a dangerous mystery of identity and deception. As the story alternates with Birdy, a reclusive woman drawn to the same house by a seemingly sinister clinic that predicts death dates, the truth twists until nothing (and no one) is what it seems.
Alice Feeney is an auto-buy author for me after how much I loved Daisy Darker (5 ★, an all-time favorite) a couple years ago. In addition to that one, I’ve also read Rock Paper Scissors (3.5 ★), Good Bad Girl (2.5 ★), Beautiful Ugly (1.5 ★), and Sometimes I Lie (1 ★ - DNF). She is clearly very hit or miss for me.
I’m glad to have found another hit!
This book’s premise initially felt like a combination of a couple books that I’ve read in the past: Stay Awake (2 ★) and The Measure (2 ★). For both, I found the ideas better than the execution. Although this story is pretty different, I found the execution to be better here when combined with all the other elements. Why did I also kind of get The Silent Patient (4.5 ★) vibes from one of the characters in this? Just me?
I loved the setting of this book. Hope Falls is the perfect remote small-town setting, and I loved the idea and name of Spyglass, the house that this story is centered around a lot of the time.
The characters are all LIARS! You will not be able to trust anyone in this book. I found almost all of them unlikable, but in a good way?!
This story was an insane ride. There are SO many twists, and I guessed almost none of them. If you are someone that doesn’t like twists happening in every way possible, you may be annoyed by this, but I enjoyed it well enough. I do think that there were so many twists that some lose their effect. I feel similarly about this one to some Riley Sager books where there are so many twists just so you can’t possibly guess them all. This type of thing doesn’t really bother me though.
I lowered my rating mainly for the amount of disbelief you have to suspend for some of the later twists. They blew my mind but also had me questioning things about the plot and whether it made sense. I also wasn’t the biggest fan of how rushed the ending felt to me.
Overall, I think you should check this one out if you like Alice Feeney and her crazy twists. I can totally see why this one has such high ratings!

She can’t quite wrap her mind around the fact that she owns this beautiful estate so when she arrives she tentatively knocks on the door with the brass bird knocker, expecting someone to answer. When no one does, she fits her key into the lock and opens the door. Inside, she finds a fancy envelope that looks like a wedding invitation with just two sentences on the front : Everyone knows their birthday. If you could know your death day, would you want to?
SIX months later, on October 30th, Eden Fox decides to go out for her run. She leaves everything behind in her new home, Spyglass, taking only her key. “Life is filled with sliding doors and dead ends” she muses, and she hopes this move to Hope Falls will be a fresh start for her and her husband, Harrison. Upon returning home, she slots the key into the front door lock but it doesn’t seem to fit. She knocks on the door with its new Fox knocker, but her husband doesn’t answer. Instead, it’s a woman who looks a lot like her-and she claims to be Eden Fox when asked.
IF our jogger is the REAL Eden Fox-then WHO is the woman in her home? This would be taking gaslighting to another level.
How did we get from point A to point B? A whole lot has happened in SIX months!
An unsolved DEATH.

And, a whole lot of COINCIDENCES. . .
This fast paced psychological thriller unfolds from the alternating POV’s of Eden, Birdy, Harrison, AND Sergeant Luke Carter, who along with his boss is aware that there is at least ONE coincidence too many.
I was IMMEDIATELY intrigued by this FUN and TWISTY story, which I think is one of Alice Feeney’s BEST books to date. I actually made quite a few guesses which turned out to be correct, but not to worry-the author had a FEW MORE twists up her sleeve which I didn’t see coming too.
ESPECIALLY the one revealed AFTER the epilogue.

While I normally like to include a synopsis in my reviews, this book is best read if gone into completely blind. If you do, and enjoy being confused in the best way, you are in for such a treat with Alice Feeney’s upcoming release. One thing she has done incredibly well in each and every one of her novels is to leave us tiny breadcrumbs throughout the story. Now, we may not pick up on said breadcrumbs during our read, but when we reach the end and the big reveals, it’s easy to see how we were led there all along.
In fact, she is so good at this, I have taken to referring to the inclusion or lack thereof as the Feeney Test. Does a twisty novel pass the Feeney test? Or has the writer done us a complete disservice by never leaving us the blueprint but rather throwing everything on our head in the last chapters of the book? Did I feel massively turned around during a good portion of this book? You betcha. And I absolutely loved it. Keeping in mind I always knew I would eventually discover the breadcrumbs, I was able to trust Feeney to take me on an amazing psychological journey that left me fully satisfied by the time I reached its conclusion.
I must also say, I am also a huge fan of both the way she writes her characters— flawed but always so relatable— and the atmospheric nature of her prose. The setting of this book, which you may be able to tell from the cover, is the Cornwall coast in a beautiful house on a hill with the very creepy name of Spyglass. And as our story unfolds, and you make your way in and around the desolate Spyglass through her descriptions, the atmosphere becomes more and more eerie, and the property begins to feel like a character in its own right.
🎧 This book is equally amazing as a graphic audiobook, completely with sound effects and a full cast. You absolutely cannot go wrong whether you choose to read this one with your eyes or your ears; however, the best experience is an immersive one using both the audio and the physical or ebook edition.

The setting of this book, which you may be able to tell from the cover, is the Cornwall coast in a beautiful house on a hill with the very creepy name of Spyglass. And as our story unfolds, and you make your way in and around the desolate Spyglass through her descriptions, the atmosphere becomes more and more eerie, and the property begins to feel like a character in its own right.
🎧 This book is equally amazing as a graphic audiobook, completely with sound effects and a full cast. You absolutely cannot go wrong whether you choose to read this one with your eyes or your ears; however, the best experience is an immersive one using both the audio and the physical or ebook edition.

Look before you start throwing your bookmarks at me I completely accept that I am an outlier with this one. Ummm WTAF!?
Firstly, this was a book I had to hybrid and I am glad I switched to the audiobook format because it was the narrators and sound effect productions that salvaged this novel somewhat.
Don’t get me wrong I was locked in at first, I thought I had it all figured out but good Ol' Ms. Feeney quickly slapped the common sense out of me and took me on THEE most convoluted, nonsensical, whiplash, twisted web of a ride!
I love a good twist, I really do, but it just didn’t work in this book. I was frankly confused and underwhelmed at the same time. AGAIN… I am happy to accept that it is just me and I am not clever enough to understand the ‘twists’ and ‘reveals’ BUTTTTT…….. All my Hopes really did Fall with this one. 👀👀👀

This could have been a banger, but the saying ‘less is more’ couldn’t have rang truer and really needed it to be applied to this book.
ANYWHOOOOO if you couldn’t tell already this one unfortunately did not work for me but if you do pick this one up, I would highly advice the audiobook and urge to create a spider chart as you listen along.

Trying to explain this book would be like trying to untangle a ball of yarn, so instead I’ll give a peek at the major players in the book:
Eden Fox: Wife of Harrison Wolf (... what’s up with the animal names in this book?) This couple has just moved into Spyglass, a home in Hope Falls, where everyone knows everyone. She’s a successful artist about to have her first exhibition in the town’s gallery that night … until the weirdness begins.
Harrison Wolf: Founder and CEO of a tech company that can tell you the date of your death. He’s fiercely devoted to his teen daughter Gabriella, who’s receiving long-term care at a high end place called The Manor many years after a mysterious childhood accident. He’s the entitled type. You know the ones.
Birdy (Olivia Bird): A Londoner with an initially unnamed job who previously inherited Spyglass from her grandmother, before selling it. Birdy discovers an interesting connection between her grandmother and the couple who now own it. She’s also received unfortunate news about her health that brings her back to Hope Falls to tie up loose ends. She’s snarky but fun ... and she has a big husky named Sunday that Luke thinks is a wolf. 🐺
Sergeant Luke Carter: The one-man police department of Hope Falls. He’s young, attractive and ambitious for a promotion he can’t seem to attain. He also can’t seem to keep certain “parts” in his pants, but that’s a whole other story. 😏 Despite this flaw, I liked his character.
Long story short, Eden goes out for a jog on the eve of her exhibition, only to come home to a house where the key doesn’t fit. Furthermore, when she knocks and the door opens, her husband is standing with a woman who looks and dresses like a mirror image of her. They both say they don’t know her. What’s going on?
I’m not telling, but let me assure you … it’s a whole lot of crazy! By the time this story ends it’ll be like looking at the back of a tapestry and trying to sort out where all the threads connect. In fact, if I had a single complaint to make it would be that for the plot to work, you have to accept a lot of convenient connections between characters and plot points. I was having fun and just rolled with it, but others might find it challenging to accept. There’s also a lot more spice and profanity than a typical Feeney book, so be warned if that’s an issue for you.
I listened to this on audio and Bel Powley, Richard Armitage and Henry Rowley, along with the sound effects, made this so much fun. I also love a book that has chapters from the POVs of all the major players. The snarky interactions between Birdy and Luke particularly made me laugh! If you like a super twisty mystery with interesting characters and an intriguing setting, this is a treat I can recommend!

EEEEKK!!! BANGER ALERT!! BANGER ALERT!! A fast-paced thrill ride full of epic twists and unforgettable turns, My Husband’s Wife was Alice Feeney at the top of her game. With her standard quotable prose and atmospheric vibe, my all-time favorite author managed to outdo even herself this time around. You see, thanks to a complex storyline that only got better with every page, my jaw was quite literally on the floor from beginning to end. Gasp-inducing in every sense of the word, the “HOLY S***!” twists got me every time. Even better, however, were the two perfectly timed plot lines. Filled with long-buried secrets, well-hidden lies, and devious schemes, my mind was reeling in the best possible way as the morally gray characters tried to outsmart one another in these short, cliffhanger chapters.
In addition to the many plot-shifting reveals, though, was a storyline that left me thinking long and hard after I flipped the last page. Exploring guilt, consequences, family, and revenge, the thought-provoking themes only added to the fun. And the fact that the whole thing was all told from the point-of-view of multiple compelling yet potentially unreliable narrators? Well, Ms. Feeney had me in the palm of her hand thanks to the whole motley crew. Who to trust and who to believe? Trust me when I say that I was kept guessing from the fast-off-the-block start until the *mic drop* last page. Add in the eerie small town setting with an old house on the edge of a cliff, and there wasn’t a thing missing from this binge-able, slump-busting, utterly original psychological thriller. Talk about whiplash!!! They don't refer to Alice Feeney as the "Queen of Twists" for nothing. My head is reeling after reading, My Husband's Wife. I wasn't quite sure what was happening during the first half of the book, but I was fully invested and intrigued! Once the second half came around, I had to hold onto my hat because Alice Feeney blew me away with one twist after another!

I usually have a good idea where a book is going when I hit the halfway mark, but not with My Husband's Wife. I still had more questions than answers. I had no idea what was going on or where Alice Feeney was taking me, but I enjoyed the ride! Once the second half kicked in, Alice Feeney delivered!!!! Holy Cow! What a reveal! I mean seriously, I did not see the few reveals which occurred coming. Some were minor but that one reveal was a complete and total shocker!!!!
This book is full of secrets, lies, tension, dread, and characters who are up to no good! I enjoyed not fully knowing where this book was heading and enjoyed the riveting and twist-filled ride! As with her other books, My Husband's Wife was wonderfully written, well thought out, and shocking!

4.5 stars, rounding up! ⭐️✨ UMMM OMG! this was absolutely insane. i just experienced brain-scrambling whiplash. this was my first alice feeney book & consider me a fan!
this book is twist after twist after twist. somehow every time you think you’ve figured it out, there’s something new unraveling! multiple POVs, shifting timelines, unreliable everything, and a plot that constantly keeps you on edge without ever being too scary! plus I think it sticks the landing. with this many moving pieces, I couldn’t figure out how it all would come together but of course it did … with ease! she’s a mastermind! it’s tense, clever & ridiculously unputdownable.
also the audiobook was FANTASTIC! i listened to a couple chapters and it has different voice actors and sound effects that made it even more immersive!

Twisty, unsettling, & gasp out loud shocking!
Right from the first chapters of the audiobook, My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney had me instantly hooked. The eerie off kilter world of Spyglass pulled me in, and I was unsettled, curious, and completely absorbed, dying to see how it would all play out.
Eden and Birdy’s experiences are layered with confusion, fear, and determination, and I was completely absorbed, glued to every moment of the audiobook. Even though I wasn’t always able to listen during the past week and it took me longer than usual to finish, I was able to jump right back into the flow of the story each time. Every answer just raised more questions, and I had no idea what Alice Feeney was plotting, yet I couldn’t stop listening. Right from the first chapters of the audiobook, My Husband’s Wife by Alice Feeney had me instantly hooked. The eerie off kilter world of Spyglass pulled me in, and I was unsettled, curious, and completely absorbed, dying to see how it would all play out.
Eden and Birdy’s experiences are layered with confusion, fear, and determination, and I was completely absorbed, glued to every moment of the audiobook. Even though I wasn’t always able to listen during the past week and it took me longer than usual to finish, I was able to jump right back into the flow of the story each time. Every answer just raised more questions, and I had no idea what Alice Feeney was plotting, yet I couldn’t stop listening. As an Alice Feeney lover (I’ve rated all her books four or five stars), I could not wait to read this newest release- especially since last year’s “Beautiful Ugly” is one of my favorite thrillers of all time. However, this book just didn’t “wow” me unfortunately. Yes, I was glued to the pages, and I couldn’t wait to see what happened next. But, I feel that this was just too over the top for me. In fact, as this book got closer to the end, I couldn’t wait for it to finally be over because I had had enough already.
This story starts off with Eden Fox, returning home after a long run. Eden and her husband have just moved into their new home Spyglass, in the town of Hope Falls. Oddly enough, her key doesn’t fit into her front door. Even more weird, a woman who looks just like her, answers the front door claiming to live there and be married to her husband, Harrison Woolf.
Sgt. Carter is called to the house to determine who the woman is trying to get into the home, and he will try to distinguish who is the real Eden Fox in this story.
Enter Birdy, she has just found out she has cancer and doesn’t have much longer to live. Life has dealt her a crappy hand in life. Birdy didn’t think she had any other family around until she received an inheritance from a long lost grandmother. That inheritance was Spyglass, a home on the cliffs in Hope Falls.
Somehow everyone’s paths will cross with each other in the small town of Hope Falls. But how? And when?

Now, this was one big hit for me. I’ve been waiting and waiting and waiting for it, and used my credit on audible with anticipation buzzing inside. And boy, this was definitely worth it. From the beginning you feel slightly confused and dizzy by what’s happening, and then as the story progress there is one surprise after another. You know that feeling when you think you know where it’s going and then you have to rearrange it all in your mind. Like a puzzle where the picture turned out to be different than on the box. There are so many whiplash moments in here, like a box of chocolate where a new one pops up as soon as you eat one. Delicious, in the very best way.

When she returns to ‘Spyglass’, her cliffside home with husband Harrison Woolf, her key doesn’t fit in the lock. She raps the door knocker three times fully expecting him to answer the door… except a woman does, someone she’s never seen before and yet looks strangely familiar as they look alike. Not only that, but this person is wearing HER dress and claims to be Eden Fox and even more astonishing, Harrison insists she is his wife. What?? Eden’s confusion deepens and turns to rage. Meanwhile, in London, Birdy (Olivia Bird) gets the worst of diagnosis and decides there are things she must do before it’s too late. The tale is told via several points of view.
“Curiouser and curiouser!” Cried Alice… Well, this Alice has me asking a million questions right from the beginning and of course, I’m absolutely hooked and eagerly anticipating the Queen Alice twists that lie ahead and I’m not disappointed. It’s perplexing and deeply intriguing as I try to figure out the whys and wherefores, with cliffhanger chapter endings or revelations that blow my theories out of the Cornish water. The ‘I don’t see that coming’ moments have my brain in a spin and my mind is blown and every so often I’m sure my jaw drops and eyes pop. There are twists right to the end which is typically Alice Feeney unexpected and which blows me away, possibly off the cliffs at Hope Falls.
There’s mystery in pretty much every direction as characters are hiding things and in some cases positively submerging them. There are local legends or legendary characters that create an aura around the place and selecting Cornwall in which to set this novel creates its own unique atmosphere. Hope Falls prides itself for being crime free, absolutely safe but it gives me the heebie-jeebies. It’s intensely claustrophobic, with Spyglass overlooking the village and seeing all, with the surrounding and enveloping moors - Blackmoor - giving Lorna Doone vibes, although that’s Exmoor!! It’s atmospheric in spades and not necessarily a good one.
There are several layers to the plot one of which is very creative and thought provoking which I don’t want to give away but which makes me question and reflect… Would I??? You’ll have to read it to find out what I’m talking about! Finally, there is some of the authors on brand dark humour which is very British too. Your life going to pot? Have a cup of tea.
Overall, this is so good and one which I can highly recommend as this very talented author has well and truly delivered an immersive, cracking plot.
PS there’s a dog too - Sunday, but don’t worry, he’s fine.

The woman claims to be Eden Fox and says that this is her house and that Harrison is her husband.
Eden can't believe what she's hearing. Then Harrison, her husband, does the unthinkable. He tells her he has no idea who she is and to stop scaring his wife or he'll call the police.
Then we also follow Birdie. A woman who was just given a terminal diagnosis. She is going to leave London to return to Hope Falls to tie up some loose ends before it's too late. While in Hope Falls she becomes entangled in the drama of Eden and Harrison.
If that plot line sounds a bit bananas to you it's because it is. In the best way possible.
I admit when Feeney first hit the scene I was devouring her books with gusto. Then we hit a hiccup when the last three of her books didn't work for me. I was bummed to say the least.
I'm happy to say that this book right here reminds me of the Feeney I know and love. This is a rollercoaster tale with many sharp twists and turns and nearly all of them took me by surprise. I love when that happens.
If you like shady characters, an unpredictable plot, and jaw dropping revelations then look no further. This was a lot of fun! 4 stars!

2.5 stars from “Outlier Island”👋🏻 I'm just really, really disappointed in "My Husband's Wife", which makes me super sad ☹️ as I just used to love Alice Feeney’s books so much. Maybe it’s partly due to it being an audiobook, which is not a format that I care for 🤔 Overall, this just felt really over-the-top with the twists that were almost "cheats" & coming out of left field. And what's with all the trashiness?? I'm no prude but I don't expect a spice level in my thrillers 🌶️🌶️ and the f-bombs must be in the four figures and in audio it was even more jarring. Maybe Feeney’s now trying to be the U.K.’s Freida McFadden??? 🤔 I thought the narrators, especially Bel P. were good, it's not their fault, they work with what they’re given. Perhaps I would have liked the print book, but no way to know now & and that’s on me - I should have just waited on my library holds😡 As I didn't care much for Beautiful Ugly" either, that’s two duds in a row for me, so Feeney's now off my "auto request" list.

One of the most immersive audiobook listening experiences I’ve ever had!
A woman returns home from a run to find her key doesn’t work in her front door. When she rings the doorbell, a woman answers claiming to be the woman who lives there.
There were many things I was drawn to in this story. Secluded, dark and eerie atmosphere. An old manor house on a cliffside estate. Small town police detective. Multiple timelines merging into one. A loveable dog companion alongside a main character. However, suspension of disbelief is required to enjoy this book and that is something I really struggle with.
If you are a reader who can suspend disbelief to escape into a super twisty, fast paced popcorn thriller with a silly and shocking (over-the-top) storyline, then you will love this! I know this will be a winner for many! It’s a fun, crazy, unpredictable romp into a wild, suspenseful and thrilling journey.
I did have fun listening to this, but I had absolutely no investment or connection as the storyline is an extreme eye-roller. Anyone who follows my reviews knows I need to be able to believe the storylines I read. There was not one ounce of believability to this plot. Although it was a fun, escapism read, it isn’t one I can say I loved. Way too far fetched on many levels.
One of my biggest issues was there was so much important information in the storyline that was purposely left out and then revealed later on for shock factor that didn’t work for me. I know these shocking moments will thrill many readers, but they didn’t work for me. The ending took implausibility to a whole new level.
Overall, this didn’t work for me, but I am certain that many psychological thriller fans will love this! I simply couldn’t get past the implausibility of the plot.
Audio rating: 5 stars! This was an incredible audiobook listening experience! There were added audio elements of waves splashing, doors opening, footsteps running, etc., that made this an incredibly immersive listening experience. The audio narrators themselves were excellent and added to my enjoyment. Highly recommend the audio!

Finally!! I was about ready to give up on Ms. Fenney after her past few novels, but this one finally gets back on track. It was sooooo good.
I’m not even sure how to give a quick synopsis without giving any type of spoiler away so if you’d like a synopsis, please refer to the GR blurb.
There were so many twist and turns I lost count. I had no idea which way was up and which way was down. I’m quite impressed with how all of the threads came together. You do have to suspend a little bit of disbelief, but overall, I didn’t find it OTT or campy. It was just fun!

My Husband’s Wife written by Alice Feeney is a keenly written, yet peculiar psychological thriller. This novel has so many obscure and wildly curious happenings that it had my head spinning. This mystery unfolds in a seaside town called Hope Falls and in and around a beautiful estate named Spyglass.
At times this book was unsettling, with cumbersome details that confused and stalled the flow of the story. I also felt both sorry for and curious about each of the two main female characters. Although both seemed somewhat confident in a weird quirky sort of way-neither came across as super likable or dependable. However the narration was fantastic. I listen to this as an audiobook.
The books major themes:
👉Control and manipulation
👉Obsession
👉Deception
👉Family-ties and sisterhood
👉Emotional trauma.
There are three main characters:
🧡Birdy: an abrasive and sad young woman who lives alone in London with her dog Sunday. She has no connection to any family, and has a mysterious past.
🧡Eden: an aspiring artist, married to Harrison and together they live in the Spyglass estate.
🧡Harrison: He is the husband of Eden. He is charismatic and handsome and controlling.
There are two timelines separated by 6 months when this story unfolds. The story opens with Eden living her best life at Spyglass estate and is preparing for her first art show that evening. She leaves for a run only to return to her home and find the house all locked up. Her key doesn’t work and there is another woman inside the house. What has happened? And who is that woman and why does she look just like me? Why doesn’t my key work? Sanity is questioned. Identity is stolen. Life thwarted.
6 months earlier Birdy learns she has only a short time to live and is all alone. Who will care for Sunday? Then, there is someone at her door. Who could that be? She literally knows no one. Shocked and confused, she answers the door. She tells them to go away. But the visitor is insistent and so… she opens the door…invites them in and curiously receives “head-spinning” news. What does this stranger deliver? Birdy’s world is shook!
Here is where the story unravels. And honestly, so did my interest. There is just so much to follow and so many “things” to keep track of. For me, it was just over the top. To track all of this…lines blurred and questions. So many questions. It gave me a headache! 😳
My Husband’s Wife is a well written domestic mystery with many, many shady undertones, plot flips and storylines. This domestic thriller was both addicting and off-putting. I do know one thing, if you are a fan of this author-you will be a fan of this one. Honestly speaking, she just might not be my cup of tea🙃.

There are three main characters:
🧡Birdy: an abrasive and sad young woman who lives alone in London with her dog Sunday. She has no connection to any family, and has a mysterious past.
🧡Eden: an aspiring artist, married to Harrison and together they live in the Spyglass estate.
🧡Harrison: He is the husband of Eden. He is charismatic and handsome and controlling.
There are two timelines separated by 6 months when this story unfolds. The story opens with Eden living her best life at Spyglass estate and is preparing for her first art show that evening. She leaves for a run only to return to her home and find the house all locked up. Her key doesn’t work and there is another woman inside the house. What has happened? And who is that woman and why does she look just like me? Why doesn’t my key work? Sanity is questioned. Identity is stolen. Life thwarted.
6 months earlier Birdy learns she has only a short time to live and is all alone. Who will care for Sunday? Then, there is someone at her door. Who could that be? She literally knows no one. Shocked and confused, she answers the door. She tells them to go away. But the visitor is insistent and so… she opens the door…invites them in and curiously receives “head-spinning” news. What does this stranger deliver? Birdy’s world is shook!
Here is where the story unravels. And honestly, so did my interest. There is just so much to follow and so many “things” to keep track of. For me, it was just over the top. To track all of this…lines blurred and questions. So many questions. It gave me a headache! 😳
My Husband’s Wife is a well written domestic mystery with many, many shady undertones, plot flips and storylines. This domestic thriller was both addicting and off-putting. I do know one thing, if you are a fan of this author-you will be a fan of this one. Honestly speaking, she just might not be my cup of tea🙃.

They don’t call Alice Feeney the Queen of the Thriller Twist for no reason and her newest work, My Husband’s Wife is a prime example as to why.
Admittedly I was a bit apprehensive about picking this one up since I didn’t love her prior work, Beautiful Ugly. But I’m so glad I did!
Propulsive, fast paced, plot driven, and reminiscent of her earlier work (especially His & Hers), My Husband’s Wife is one highly entertaining story. I found myself on the edge of my seat unable to put this one down. It’s one of those books where you think you know what’s going to happen then BAM! Another twist is thrown in leaving you reeling.
I listened to the audiobook version of My Husband's Wife, which is narrated by Bel Powley (who I adored in the miniseries A Small Light), Henry Rowley, and Richard Armitage.

another fun thriller from Alice Feeney, this one kept me guessing the entire time and the audiobook was incredible. we follow multiple different characters, but things kick off when Eden returns home from her run, only to realize that her key doesn’t work and a woman who looks exactly like her is claiming to be her. things get more complicated when her husband Harrison seems to be going along with this whole scenario too.
”Everybody lies and everybody dies, those are two of the only things you can be certain of in an uncertain world.”
another important character in the story is Birdy, someone who’s on a time crunch and has a lot of mystery behind her motivations in the town. her chapters were my favorite, i never knew what she was going to do next. i was suspicious of Carter with all his questionable behavior immediately, i just didn’t like Harrison and i had no idea what to think of Gabriella. the twists were so good.. that last line? pure gold.
