John Kurtze Review of “Too Far Gone” by Debra Webb and Regan Black

I received and advance copy of "Too Far Gone" for a fair and impartial review.

Debra Webb and Regan Black have just finished their second book in the Dangerous Protector series, "Too Far Gone." Webb and Black's collaboration brings to great writers of mystery and romance stories together to bring readers and a new group of heroes and Heroines.

"Too Far Gone" is fast moving mystery - suspense - romance story with well-developed characters. Readers who haven't read the first book in the Dangerous Protector learn the history of the Guardian Agency.

Laura Woods, the female protagonist of "Too Far Gone," contacts the Guardian Agency. She explains her problem and they agrees to take her case. Realizing her difficulties have put her in immediate danger, they immediately assign the story's male protagonists, Mike Stone, as her protector. Readers learn the back story details of both protagonists.

Webb and Black provide information about the life of Hollywood actresses and the danger facing Laura Woods. The authors take their readers into the dark world of Hollywood and the ugliness of the glitter and glamour.
The authors deliberately throw readers into the middle of their story by putting them on the shoulders of Mike and Laura. Events occur at lightning speed including murders, drugs, human trafficking, manipulation, and dangers of mob activities.

Webb and Black have readers holding their breath each time Mike Stone has to step up and protect Laura, and they meet some of the antagonists and learn about their lifestyle. Both authors show their skills in writing a mystery full of thrills and suspense and even sneak the opportunity for romance into the mix. The plot has twists and turns and lots intrigue keeping readers guessing as to what will happen next.

What happens to the protagonists and how Webb and Black tie up all of the many loose ends can only come to light by reading the second of Debra Webb and Regan Blacks' Dangerous Protector Series "Too Far Gone." So if you want to know what the life is like for a successful actress facing greater danger than she has seen in any script she has read and if you know want to learn more about the Guardian Agency and their protectors, you will have to read Webb and Black’s breath taking “Too Far Gone.”

The greatest surprise Webb and Black have for readers of "Too Far Gone" is a unique and captivating ending. "Too Far Gone," is a must read and Webb and Regan earn a 5-star ranking. :-)

This is the second book on the Dangerous Protector series by Debra Webb and Regan Black.
Lauren is a good, fairly well-known actress, who sees her boyfriend/agent murdered. When she goes to the police, the sergeant blows her off, but another officer gives her the number to The Guardian Agency. She calls and hires Mike.
After hearing her story and checking things out, Mike decides to take the case because he realizes that Lauren's agent was involved with the Russian Mafia and he not only has to solve the case without any help from anyone but his associates, he also has to protect Lauren with his life.
This book is fast-paced, action-packed and HOT!!!
It was another, "I didn't want to put it down" book.
You'll love it!

With an energetic, fast-paced plot with constant twists this story of Mike and Lauren Marie flows effortlessly off the pages, with such smooth ease, it was a pleasure to read.
I absolutely adored Mike and Lauren Marie. They had this tangible sizzling chemistry between them from the start, but not only the physical attraction, they genuinely seemed to like each other, respect and admire each other's gifts and talents, smarts and personality.
And Lauren Marie is a delightful heroine, making a difference with her intelligence and bravery. She jumps in, to help to capture the villains, yet there is not one single TSTL moment -- she listens to the experts, she does what she is told to do, keeping herself safe without compromising the case.
Mike has a bit of a chip on his shoulder from his military days, yet it is a tiny chip, nothing that he will let come on the way of the case, nor does it put Lauren Marie into a harms way. He is a good guy, a true alpha with highly protective, commanding side, but he has a good heart, he has a sense of humor, he is smart, kind, loyal, and capable.
The attraction and romance are moving on lightning speed, even though they do not have that many opportunities to get to truly know each other. Yet somehow it is believable, or should I say suitable, for Mike and Lauren Marie.
The dialog is brilliant, the banter between Mike and Lauren Marie is filled with puns and humor, flirting and play. It managed to make me smile in spite of the heinous, dreadful crimes, and the fact that Mike and Lauren Marie are doing everything they can just to stay a step ahead of the criminals - and alive.
The vivid, intense, constant danger present in the story is alluring, making the book unputdownable. Add to that the enticing attraction between the hero and the heroine, that burst into an all-consuming inferno, and you get the best kind of entertaining romantic suspense.

Lauren Marie Woods, a successful soap opera actress aspired to more, and she finally saw the light: her on and off live-in boyfriend, her agent Desmond Trinity, was keeping her from getting the roles she really wanted. Besides, it had been a long time since the love had died. So, on that fateful day, Lauren drove to Desmond’s office to tell him they were through. She never got to tell him, because she witnessed his murder! The police seem indifferent to her plea for help, apart from an officer who surreptitiously gives her a Guardian Agency card. Mike Stone receives his call to protect Lauren, and he appreciates his new client’s beauty. But he can’t let himself be distracted, her life is as stake, he has a job to do.

Wow, this was a wild ride! Regan Black barely gives us time to breathe as the intrigue starts right off the bat and never lets up. MIKE flows exceptionally well, and the Hollywood-Malibu setting was most welcome on the cold and snowy day when I read the book what a great movie it would make! The plot is quite complex, no little detail goes to waste; both characters are fully developed and make a fabulous team; the premise is quite timely as well. I loved that Lauren got involved, and it felt like the natural thing to do, and she always acted responsibly. And to say the least, when Lauren and Mike first meet was most interesting.

Ms. Black packs so much into this novel, that I was almost worried that it would be hastily wrapped up, but no! Everything is wrapped up neatly and convincingly, like everything else. I struggled a little bit with the romance, and this is a personal pet peeve of mine: Mike’s thoughts and insinuations of him being into bondage did not sit too well with me – although Lauren seemed OK with it. I thought it was a bit awkward, considering the criminal activities as well as the behaviour of a secondary character. Speaking of secondary characters: Claudia, the Guardian Agency’s technical assistant, intrigues me more and more. She is a very strong presence, even though she interacts with the Protectors electronically. She is a sort of tech wizard slash Miss Moneypenny to the Protectors, and I hope that she will have her own story eventually because I love her so much! And there is also the wonderful Vanya. And of course, MIKE stands completely on its own; no need to have read any of the previous instalments. Once again, Regan Black has crafted an exciting romantic suspense that will keep you glued to your reader for a few hours.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to be able to review the two new start up series of this wonderful team I fondly named the Dynamic Duo. I hope that is what you will call them, too. Dangerous Protectors and The Specialist series are the results of the brainstorm of Regan Black and Debra Webb.

If you like a book that’s well written, well edited, with a fast paced mystery, chills, and thrills, along with some smoking hot he men, these stories will be right up your alley.
Against the Wall was the first in this series; each book is stand alone. Nothing to Lose will be out in February and I will be there.

In this book, we meet television soap star actress Lauren Woods at the end of her rope with her live in boyfriend/agent. After hating the script he has sent her to read, she can’t wait to throw it in his face immediately. Going directly to his office, she walks in to hear yelling, an argument, and then watches as he is murdered by two men while a half dressed woman is cowering on his couch. Lauren turns to run and one of the assassins yells her name and tells her he wants her.

She calls the police, is interrogated, and released. Before she leaves the station a young officer hands her a card after asking if she has a bodyguard. Her answer, of course, is no. Things get worse. She hears on the news that someone stepped forward and named her as the killer. When in doubt, this Dynamic Duo of Webb and Black want everyone who needs help to call, No, not Ghostbusters, Dangerous Protectors.

Ex-Navy Seal Mike Stone is called in to protect and is at Lauren’s side in an hour. The story is fast paced. They are trying to figure out the bad guys, deal with each other, and keep a young woman safe. The story is excellent, believable, and Lauren and Mike spark the pages with sensual heat. I cannot wait for more

Ms Webb and Ms Black have done it again in Too Far Gone, the second in their Dangerous Protector series!
Lauren is an actress working hard to get where she wants to be but get there by her hard work and quiet determination without all the Hollywood drama and she knows she is ready but she has to get her agent slash boyfriend to see it her way. That is just what she is off to do when she finds herself watching his murder and is now running for her life both from the police who suspect her and the thugs who killed him! Lauren finds she has no where to turn and is encouraged to call in a protector....Mike Stone is an ex Navy Seal and a part of the Guardian Agency and it becomes his duty to do the job!
Mike is a strong character and as a protector finds he has his hands full because the beautiful Lauren is no shrinking violet....she is ready to kick butt and take names in the search to clear her name and make things right after discovering her boyfriend had ties the Russian mob and a human trafficking ring that took place right under her nose without her even suspecting!
What I like most about these books is that even though these women clearly need help and are strong enough to know it and willing to ask for it, they are not the normal "damsels in distress", they can and do stand up and fight!
Great Job!!!!

This is the 2nd book in the Dangerous Protectors Series by Debra Webb and Regan Black.
In book 2 we have Lauren Marie Woods, an actress on a day time soap. Lauren has had enough of her cheating, controlling boyfriend. She decides it is the day she ends it once and for all. She heads to his office in time to hear him arguing with 2 men with accents. Suddenly while standing outside the door and peeking in, she hears the gunshots. She drops something's and the preps hear her so she runs for her life. After speaking with the police she is given the number for the guardian agency. She calls.
Enter Mike Stone. Surfer and former Navy Seal, now a protector. Lauren isn't too thrilled as he barks orders at her but it is his job to keep her alive. He also has to prove her innocent as she now is being framed for murder. Sparks fly on both sides but neither wants the other to know.
Will the real killers be caught and Lauren free to continue her acting career or will Lauren and Mike get caught up in something bigger than either imagined?
Great book. It is a quick read with a lot of suspense and a little romance thrown in. The authors collaboration on this series is awesome. I could not put it down!

Too Far Gone is the second book in Debra Webb and Regan Black's Dangerous Protectors series. Lauren Woods witnesses the murder of her agent/more off boyfriend. She runs for her life and doesn't understand why she comes under the suspicion of murder when there was another witness present. Where is the other witness and why isn't she telling the police what really happened? One of the police officers gives Lauren the number to the Guardian Agency and she is assigned a protector, Mike Stone. Mike is an ex-Navy Seal and isn't too crazy about Hollywood types. But, the more he learns about Lauren he realizes there is more than just looks to her and she is in real danger from the men trying to find her. Are the police involved too in this organized crime group? Who can they trust? How will they be able to prove that Lauren wasn't the murderer? Read and find out.....

This is the second book in the Protectors series but can be read on its own. Lauren has gone to see her agent and ends up witnessing his murder. Now the killer wants her dead and the police are calling her a person of interest in his killing. Lauren needs protecting from the killer and the police. Protector Mike Stone is called to help her. Mike is an ex Navy Seal and doesn't trust many people especially Hollywood types. As they try to keep Lauren safe Mike realizes there is more to her than being a blond Hollywood starlet. Their attraction grows as the danger increases. Mike will sacrifice anything to keep Lauren safe. Who can they trust and how will they prove Lauren is innocent of murder?

The second installment of Debra Webb and Regan Black’s Dangerous Protectors series, Too Far Gone, is as much fun to read as the first. Claudia remains a presence behind the scenes, but otherwise the characters are all new. Mike Stone is a jaded former Navy SEAL. Lauren Marie Woods is the mid-A-list actress being framed for murder. Together they are explosive in more ways than one. I really enjoyed this installment. I’m interested to see where the trilogy goes from here. I’m also hoping that Claudia gets her own book before we are finished. This is a must read for anyone fond of fast-paced romantic suspense and great story-telling.

Action, Drama, Romance, Suspense and a little bit of Fluff (It is Hollywood, after all)! This second installment of the Dangerous Protectors Series has it all! It is a book that you will want to read in one sitting. It is hard to put down once started.
I highly recommend ‘Too Far Gone’ by the dynamic Debra Webb and Regan Black. I am also looking forward to Claudia’s Story in ‘Nothing Too Lose’ coming in February.

The book was also full of sexual tension that made the reader want the main characters to hook up and get their happily ever throughout the entire story. When Lauren Woods goes to confront her agent about another lousy script, she gets caught up in the illegal business of human trafficking and ends up running for her life. Mike Stone is a Guardian Agency Protector, who’s assigned to protect Lauren from a Russian mobster’s threats. What starts as a routine protection becomes so much more.

This is an exciting and engaging tale, full of intrigue, drama, and suspense, with a delicious build to some steamy passion. The characters are well developed, and the story is packed with fast paced, near lethal action. It’s a quick, exciting read that will keep you turning the page from start to finish. I recommend this very appealing and highly entertaining romantic suspense!

Regan Black wrote a fast-paced, suspenseful, action-packed book. The characters, Mike Stone and Lauren Marie Woods had great chemistry. Mike couldn't cross the professional line since he was assigned to protect Lauren. Lauren wasn't going to make it easy for Mike. The characters were well-developed and believable. I received a copy of the book, and I am voluntarily giving this review

Lauren was a fantastic character as an actress that seemed to have a code of behavior different from other actors or actresses. When she is framed for murder Mike steps in to protect her. As they uncover some human trafficking they develop some steamy chemistry. Tons of action and great characters with a fantastic plot. Loved it!!! I am voluntarily reviewing an arc.

Thank you Regan Black for a chance to read this Arc. Alpha ex seal - yum, talented actress with guts and gumption, murder, mystery, romance and suspense. It has it all. For me though Regan took a serious subject that happens all to often in the world and wove it through the plot. Your not bashed over the head, its not shoved down your throat, but its there, just enough to make you grateful for your own life, and hopefully raise awareness. Thank you!

Mike is an ex-SEAL who now enjoys being part of the Guardian Agency. He can swim and Surf before his assignments in the area - the best of both worlds. When he receives his new assignment he expects to find an entitled starlet with a prima donna tendencies. What he finds is Lauren Marie, who may be an actress but is no brainless bimbo!

Lauren Marie has been living a lie for the last few years. She could no longer put up with her boyfriends cheating but he could have harmed her career. So she lived with him in a faux relationship, only putting on a good face for the press. But when she finally decides that she has had enough of the rubbish scripts he keeps presenting to her, she interrupts a business meeting which ends terminally for her agent!

Now she is on the run from the Russian Mafia who killed him and the cops who think she may be guilty. Her only hope is Mike. Add in the trafficking ring they stumble across and even Mike might be stretched to save her.

I loved Lauren as she was level headed and a bit stubborn. She was a caring person and I loved the way she took up the crusade for the trafficked girls. She had no blinkers where her ex was concerned, even when she didn't want to believe he might be up to his neck in it! Mike was the perfect alpha hero, which a caring core. He was willing to give Lauren the lead and support her rather than railroad her into his way of thinking.

Great read

Guardian Agency:Mike
Regan Black

From the beginning to the end, a nonstop thriller that keeps you wanting to do nothing but read it until the end.
Can Mike protect the actress, Lauren Woods, from the mobsters she witnessed killing her agent.
What he doesn’t know is what a spitfire he is dealing with and how much she is going to drive him crazy.
Another Guardian Agency story with strong characters who fight for what is right.
Can’t put it down until you know what happens.

Lauren Marie is an actress who witnesses the brutal death of her agent/boyfriend, by Russian Mafia Enforcers, A cop gives her a card with a phone # to the Guardian Agency Enforcers. Mike loves to surf and, does every day except when he gets a text calling him in for cases. This new one with a gorgeous actress who is even more bull headed and, determined than he is, looks like it's going to get more complicate by the day. Not knowing who they can trust, they have to learn how to depend on each other, while fighting their immediate lust for each other.
This was a fast-paced, enjoyable read!

3 Stars for this romantic suspense book starring a Hollywood Star, Lauren, and her protector, Mike. I was pleasantly surprised the actress wasn’t portrayed as fake or spoiled. Mike, a former Seal, is loner since he was forced to leave the Navy. He works for The Guardian Agency and is hired to be Lauren’s bodyguard after she witnessed the murder of her agent/boyfriend. As expected, these two fall for each other. The romance between Mike and Lauren felt real and not just based on lust. I am glad the author didn’t have them immediately act on their sexual impulses.
I understood why Mike felt he had no choice regarding involving the police once he discovered the main detective on the case was a dirty cop. Where the plot went South for me and made no sense, is when Mike and Lauren set out to take down the Russian mob boss and his hired sidekicks without support from The Guardian Angels. I couldn’t understand why Mike, as Lauren’s Protector, would allow Lauren to be in harms way. The storyline could have still been thrilling and more believable if Mike had at least asked for backup from his fellow Guardian Angels or involved a trusted FBI agent. From a suspense story I want some level of realism, which this book didn’t provide.

Too Far Gone is the second book of the Dangerous Protectors series but don't let that stop you. I somehow missed reading the first book and in no way felt the lack when reading this one. Too Far Gone made for a smooth read, the subject matter made it rough going in a few spots though Lauren and Mike work together to get through those rough spots. ANYTHING written by Debra Webb and Regan Black either together or separately is NOT to be missed ... Thanks for an Excellent Read.

Actress Lauren Marie Woods went to have it out with her agent but got there in time to witness his murder by Russians. Now his killers are after her and the police think she was the one who killed him. She has no one she can turn to for help because if the cops won’t believe her who will? One of the policeman hands her a card with a telephone to call for help. The call is to the Guardian Agency Enforcers with whom she is in desperate need of their kind of help.

Mike Stone is assigned to her case but he is not thrilled with protecting an actress and dealing with Hollywood. But he does realize that Lauren is in serious trouble and could end up dead unless he helps her. As a former Navy Seal he knows how to protect her but she is more than he thought she was…She is determined even more than he is at times, which can makes things for him more complicated if she won’t follow his instructions.

On the run from the Russians and the cops the couple doesn’t know who to trust. In addition, they have stumbled upon a human trafficking ring which only intensifies the danger that they must face to stay alive….. Can both Mike and Lauren survive long enough to bring the criminals to justice and confront their attraction for each other?

This book is fast moving with lots of action to keep the reader engaged. I loved that Lauren was a strong-willed woman, much more than just an “actress” and Mike while tough was also a caring man who had strong values. I highly recommend this romantic suspense by Regan Black.

Note: Previously published as Too Far Gone, this novel has been updated and revised for your enjoyment. I received an ARC of this book from the author for an honest review.

'You're my only craving '

Sparks? More like fireworks exploding between Mike and Lauren, can they keep their hands off each other long enough to prove Lauren's innocence and get her to safety?
They are both jaded, both have been betrayed, Lauren is from a life where nobody is real, everyone is acting and Mike only works alone now, no longer able to trust. They both make instant snap judgements about each other...but both are wrong.
Lauren finds Mike irritating, he is controlling, bossy, inflexible and abrupt but the longer she spends with him she realises it is about her safety and he is a man of integrity, a protector, a man she is fiercely attracted to.
Mike assumed Lauren was like everyone else in Holywood, self centered, hungry for limelight and would do anything to further their career...boy was he wrong!
I loved seeing Mike and Lauren gradually relax with each other and open up, watching the trust and admiration between them grow, and with it the attraction...but also the danger! Fast paced with action, danger, intrigue and steamy moments Mike and Lauren will take you on a race against time, the Russians and those betraying their badge....is there anyone they can trust?
