Easy with You

Rate this book
Nothing has ever come easy for Lila Bailey. She’s fought for every good thing in her life during every day of her thirty-one years. Aside from that one night with an impossible to deny stranger a year ago, Lila is the epitome of responsible.

Steadfast. Strong.

She’s pulled herself out of the train wreck of her childhood, proud to be a professor at Tulane University and laying down roots in a city she’s grown to love. But when some of her female students are viciously murdered, Lila’s shaken to the core and unsure of whom she can trust in New Orleans. When the police detective assigned to the murder case comes to investigate, she’s even more surprised to find herself staring into the eyes of the man that made her toes curl last year.

In an attempt to move on from the tragic loss of his wife, Asher Smith moved his daughter and himself to a new city, ready for a fresh start. A damn fine police lieutenant, but new to the New Orleans force, Asher has a lot to prove to his colleagues and himself.

With a murderer terrorizing the Tulane University campus, Asher finds himself toe-to-toe with the one woman that haunts his dreams. His hands, his lips, his body know her as intimately as he’s ever known anyone. As he learns her mind and heart as well, Asher wants nothing more than to keep her safe, in his bed, and in his and his daughter’s lives for the long haul.

But when Lila becomes the target, can Asher save her in time, or will he lose another woman he loves?

Kristen Proby decided to try her hand in Romantic mystery and I’ve got to say she did pretty damn well. It’s not so much a romantic thriller but more a romance with a little bit of mystery thrown, but is still a very well written short story. This is a cross-over between her Seattle and New Orleans series so if you need a “quick-fix” and you are a Kristen’s fans, you can’t miss this story.

I really, REALLY loved Asher and Lila but, oh my goodness, talk about a dash through beautiful countryside! I wanted to slow down and savour the view but we hurtled through this at a rate of knots. I know that's the point, this is, after all, a novella but I really wanted a full length story for these two.

Kristen Proby has flirted with romantic suspense before but has only really ever dipped a toe in the murky waters - I would love for her to dive right in and give us a full-length, edgy, tense erotic thriller. Especially with drop dead, gorgeous, protective heroes like Asher.

Great little addition to the Boudreaux series and I loved every second but I just wanted more.

Looking forward to Gabby's story in July.

Easy with You is a crossover between the With Me in Seattle series and the new Boudreaux series. We were introduced to Asher Smith in Tied With Me and introduced to Lila Bailey in Easy Love.

Easy with You continues their story from Easy Love how they met, what happened that night and how they meet up again and what is going to happen.

Loved Asher and Lila together they are hot and I loved Casey she is so cute and I loved the three of them together. Great spending some more time with Matt and Nic Montgomery (I miss that family.)

I love KP and have read all her books. I am never disappointed. Easy with You even though it is a short read is a new genre for her with the suspense element which I enjoyed but I did know early on who the killer was but this could just be me. This has everything you expect from KP so if you are a fan it is a MUST READ.

OOoooooo this book had me on the edge of my seat! I realllly enjoyed this novella and having the two series meet like that was fabulous.

I was taken right away with Asher and his daughter so freaking cute! I didn’t really connect well with Lila, I liked her but I felt she was a little flat considering what happens I guess I wanted for her character to show a little more emotion maybe.

But overall a great story. Glad I listened to it. The narration was spot on.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

What a wonderful novella!

Seeing her again was a punch in the gut. I’m surprised I was able to speak at all.
And now that I know that my Lila is this maniac’s focus, all I can think about is tucking her away and making sure she’s safe.

We met Lila Bailey and Asher Smith in Easy Love when Lila came to visit her best friend Kate, and on the plane to Kate she fell in Adam’s lap and later when they meet again they had a fantastic night together.

Lila now lives in New Orleans and some of her students has become targets of a serial killer. And the lieutenant assigned to her case is none other than Asher, who she hasn’t seen since that night, nine months ago.

Asher moved to New Orleans six months ago, wanting a fresh start for him and his ten year old daughter. And when he comes face to face with Lila, the woman who has been haunting his dreams for months, he’s determined to do whatever he has to keep her safe. Because Lila seems to be the real target of the killer and he refuses to lose another woman he cares about.

I recognize it. I’m in love with her. How it managed to happen so fast, I don’t know. And while I do recognize it, it feels different this time. Not better or worse, just different.

I liked the sweetness of this novella and the author did such a great job at keeping the suspense gripping and chilling, even though I figured out who the killer was early on.

This was another great addition to a series I absolutely LOVE!

Oh gag. This book was bloody awful.

Asher was such a piece of scum. I'm sorry but seriously it takes most lads years to move on and be with someone after their wives die, especially if they have kids to focus on. But this guys wife and three/four years later he is completely happy, flirty, having enthusiastic one night stands, falling head over in heels in love with someone he barely knows? He felt no guilt or sadness over his wife. It made me sick. Seriously Lila finds out about what happened to his wife and he's all, meh shit happens I'm over it, I mean it's been like forever since she died. SERIOUSLY MAN? Then after that lovely talk he proceeds to have sex with Lila, because, you know nothing makes him hornier than talking about how he's completely over the fact he He spent most of the book going on and on about how in love with he was with Lila. YOU'VE HAD LIKE FOUR INTERACTIONS WITH HER CALM THE FUCK DOWN. I'm usually a fan of insta-love but here it made me want to gouge my eyes out. Also he was clearly going for father of the year award leaving his kid with a virtual stranger who has a serial killer after her. Not that Lila knows she has a killer after her, because Asher didn't think she needed to be scared like that. SERIOUSLY. Also he never introduces women to his daughter because he doesn't want to confuse her (Which does that mean Lila isn't even the first woman he's had after his wife? Ewwww) but it's okay he just knows this one night stand he's met like three times is totally the one.

The suspense part was equally awful. The first time you meet the murderer he might as well have been wearing a T-Shirt saying "I'm the killer!" The police don't even warn Lila that she might be the target. They don't cancel the study session where EVERYONE is being murdered. They didn't even try to protect the students in the class. Obviously the woman the man in charge of the investigation is screwing is more important than these kids getting their faces ripped off. The conclusion was seriously stupid. Asher is all overprotective the whole book wanting to keep her safe, then suddenly she's alright to go to her apartment alone because hey she's picking up lingerie to wear for him? WHAT THE HELL? So much stupid.

Must. Bleach. From. My. Brain.

3.5 “sweetheart” “easy” Kisses

I’m a Kristen Proby addict…she writes it and I must read it. I was really excited when I found out about Easy with You since it’s kind of the connector between her With Me in Seattle Series and her new Boudreaux Series (both of which I love immensely)…so I was excited to see how things played out. And I was not disappointed.

Lieutenant Asher Smith…yum…yum…and more yum. Asher is…well, he’s amazing. He’s a cop to his core…a protector, and he’s very good at his job. He’s caring, kind and sweet...under all those sexy muscles and serious exterior, he’s actually a big teddy bear. That has a lot to do with his 10 year old daughter, Casey…he’s an absolutely fabulous father and given he’s been doing it all by himself for the past 4 years, I think that means he deserves a medal. But I think for the first time since he lost his wife, he’s finally seeing that he still has a lot of life yet to live…and I think that’s all thanks to Lila.

‘I can’t resist her. For the first time in years, I don’t want to resist her.
I simply want her.’

Delila Bailey…smart, tenacious and one seriously tough cookie. Lila basically wears that ‘I don’t need anybody’ badge, and with pride. I loved her independence…and it’s not that she doesn’t need anybody, she just knows that it’s best to rely only on herself. She has her best friend, Kate, and her job…and that’s good enough for her. She lives a great life (albeit…a boring sex life)…but she’s happy…content. And then she falls into the lap of a sexy cop, has a life altering one night stand and…well, the rest, as they say, is history. I loved seeing the changes in Lila…Asher brought out a different side to her, as did Casey, and it was truly fun seeing her blossom with them.

“The chemistry between us is crazy,” I reply.
“I know. He swallows hard and kisses down my jaw to my ear. “You’re so damn beautiful, Delila.”
“I hate my name,” I whisper.
“Why?”
“Because it’s an old lady name.”
“I love you’re name.”

This book warmed my heart…it made me smile…it made me swoon, a-whole-freaking-lot…it’s just a very happy, romantic book for me. I L-O-V-E-D how Easy with Me connected the two series – it was perfection! It's like having the best of both worlds…since I just recently read Easy Love, it was refreshing seeing the events that I already knew happened from a different POV…plus the bed-breaking-sex that occurred was also a joy to read :-) Lila and Asher of course had the physical part of their relationship down, easily…and it was hot, don’t get me wrong…but their connection and feelings about each other is what I adored most. Asher wore his heart on his sleeve for that girl and I was quickly and easily drawn in to the Asher-and-Lila bubble. I'll be honest, their relationship did progress quickly but it was effortless and worked for them and the flow of the story.

“You’re not my pawn, Lila. You’re everything.”
“Excuse me?” she whispers, not looking up.
“I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention, baby, but this isn’t a quick fuck for me. You’re not just a job for me.”
“What am I?”
I swallow hard and kiss her head. “You mean more to me than any woman has in a very long time. Let me protect you.”

There is something that sucks me in to Kristen Proby’s writing…something I can’t quite put my finger on, but it’s like this magical little drug that I’m addicted to. She hits every note perfectly…all the emotions…the sexiness…the swoony alpha male…the relatable heroine…add in just the right amount of tension and top it off with a blissfully wonderful HEA and it gets me every time. This is why I have a love/hate relationship with novella’s…I always want more and a novella is just enough to give me a good story…but I’m not ready to let go! Don’t get me wrong, it was a great, quick, easy story…had all the elements I need and I can only imagine what Kristen would have done with Asher and Lila if she had turned it into a full length novel, but I appreciate and enjoyed it for what it was.

Very sweet healing story. I was already invested with the sneak peek at their beginning in the previous story. Then I had to jump in. Well it had a single dad who is amazing and a really sweet feisty heroine. One adorable little girl and some suspense. Yes it had one element i usually avoid

But for some reason I felt Kristen did a great job making me feel like these two belonged together.. Or rather these 3 with Casey being a little girl who needed Lila in her life as much as Asher needed Lila. Very satisfying romantic read.

Great novella to get over my reading slump. A romance with a little mystery (but I find it predictable). This is a novella for With Me in Seattle. I am recommending that series if you enjoyed Sea Breeze series or Rosemary Beach series by Abbi Glines.

This is a novella. It is quick and it moves fast. It’s insta love pretty much with a side of suspense. I will say that the plot was alittle too unrealistic so the story didn’t hold up as much as I would have liked. But overall it was an okay read.

4 - "We broke the bed." Stars!

Decent novella, that interlinks the With Me and Boudreaux series, and gives you a little catch up with Matt and Nic from the former, and provides you with secondary characters; Asher and Lila’s story from the latter. It can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend reading Easy Love as you get the beginnings of Asher and Lila’s story in it.

Add in a little murder mystery, although I pegged who it was from their first introduction, it well written as usual. Although I will say Asher was a little similar in his sexy talk and sexy preferences that he reminded me of Eli Boudreaux from Easy Love on a couple of occasions.

Nevertheless Proby delivered again, and I am going straight onto Easy Charm; single mother + injured sportsman = Reading Heaven!

This was a novella so perhaps I'm judging it a bit harshly.... you can only get so much story into novella. But the plot was just so far fetched and unbelievable. I'm giving it 2 stars because I did like the characters and in a different setting, plot, and longer book I would have probably really enjoyed it.

Ok first although you may see this book listed some places as With Me in Seattle #8.5, it is completely a standalone. Ms. Proby masterfully weaves a secondary character from her With Me in Seattle series, Asher (Matt's partner from Tied with Me) into her new Boudreaux series which is set in New Orleans. So yes, you see characters from both series but this novella is truly about Asher and Lila; everything you need to know about them or those around them to love this story is explained in this book.

The prologue to this story is hot as it is the night Asher and Lila first meet; a night we don’t see in Easy Love, book 1 of the Boudreaux series.

Lila Bailey is a college professor and Asher Smith is a police lieutenant and single father. They have a one-night stand, they don't know each other's last name nor live in the same town so imagine Lila’s surprise when the murders on Tulane University campus, her new place of employment, puts her face to face with the man who still centers in her fantasies, the man she thought still lived in Seattle.

The reader can instantly feel the attraction between Archer and Lila and they know that one night is not enough. For a short story, this book does a good job of developing more than just a sexual relationship; these characters open up to each other and learn to live in each others space; although forced to by the suspense aspect of this book. I do not want to say more about the plot as watching it unfold is more enjoyable. I will say I loved that the suspense element of this book did not overpower the romance or the developing relationship.

I adored the use of Casey in this story; this little girl stole Lila’s heart and mine as well. Yes, I loved Casey in Tied with Me and I am sure my review says I hoped Asher and Casey get a happy.

Thank you, Ms. Proby for giving Asher and Casey a happy! Yes I hope that as the Boudreaux series develops, we might catch a glimpse or two of them again.

I think the problem with this one was that it's a novella trying to be a novel. It just felt hastily thrown together. All the events in this would have worked much better had they been fleshed out instead of them moving so fast and falling in love in days.

I also didn't enjoy the suspense element in this. It was predictable and way OTT. Spare me the evil guy spilling his guts in the end, I've seen that a million times before. In my opinion, instead of adding the "evil guy" conflict those pages should have been used to further Lila, Asher, and Casey's bond.

Oh and the biggest issue for me was Lila's complete stupidity. Case in point:

Overall, nothing too special, thank god it was short.

Slick's review posted on Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews

Being a huge fan of Kristen Proby's With Me series I was all over Easy With You and I love that she tied the With Me series with her new Boudreaux Series, basically bridging them together. I haven't had time to read the first book in the Boudreaux series but I didn't feel lost at all jumping into this book. Two people who meet my accident and share a passionate night are reunited and thrust back together when a murder investigation turns personal.

From the romance angle I really loved this book; the chemistry between Lila Bailey and Asher Smith was immediate and undeniable. Months later they find themselves back together and realizing those feelings have only intensified. I appreciated that these two didn't play coy with one another; they both admit that they very much enjoyed their one night together and don't mind starting up again. I love their mature relationship and the fact that they communicate very well with each other. I like that Asher has no problems introducing her to his family including his daughter and that Lila is happy to share her good friends with him as well. The fact that Lila immediately accepted Asher's daughter, Casey, and that they bonded easily was nice to see and made the fast pace of their relationship believable.

While the murder mystery part of this book was necessary for reconnecting these characters, it was a little weak but it didn't lessen my enjoyment of the story. I really love Asher's ex-partner from Seattle Matt Montgomery and his wife, Nicole coming for a visit and being there for them when things got a little tough.

A little bit of Seattle, a little bit of New Orleans and a whole lot of sexy times made Easy With You one fantastic little story and an absolute brilliant way of connecting two highly popular and much loved series.

I love Kristen Proby and this series has been one of my favorites of all time. This book was good but it missed the mark for me. I love Lila & Asher but the story was too short. Yes, I know it is a novella but I needed....No I wanted more!

Lila and Asher hook up for a steamy one night stand when Asher is visiting his brother and Lila her friend. The don't exchange names or numbers and both go there own way. Now it is months later Asher has moved to NOLA with his 10 yo daughter and Lila is a professor at Tulane. Murders of students are happening on campus and the one common piece is they all take class and are in a study group with the beautiful professor and new Lieutenant Asher is working the case. When they reconnect the spark and sizzle is still there.

Where this book is only OK for me is...1- the insta-love and 2-easily predictable villain. But STILL a good read!

Didn't feel the connection between the MC's. I know it's fantasy, ficction... But too much. Less than one week and they were already in love.. Besides, the heroine is a professor and I read the entire book trying to see her intelligence.. This is an affront to the real professors..

A must read for any Proby fan. This crossover is everything you want and more. A little taste of the With Me series and a full gumbo serving of the Big Easy. This "lovella"with a suspenseful twist will have you speed reading till the end. Asher is hot and Lila is adorable. These two are a perfect fit, even when the twosome becomes three, with the addition of Asher's little girl.

Proby does family best. The interaction between Lila and Asher's daughter was priceless. Asher is a protector and as he hits the streets of the Big Easy his mind is set to protect his girls. Easy With You is easy perfection. I hope to see the duo of 1001 Dark Night and Kristen Proby in years to come.

3.5 stars!

This is a super short, sweet and sexy read. A crossover between Kristen Proby’s With Me in Seattle and Boudreaux series as Asher Smith (Matt’s partner and best friend from Tied with Me) and Lila Bailey (Kate’s best friend from Easy Love) get their HEA.

Asher and Lila meet in New Orleans while Asher is visiting family, they share insane chemistry and have one unforgettable night together before parting ways. Nine months later and Asher is now living in NOLA and is investigating a murder case when his investigation leads him to Lila – the target of a vicious serial killer.

All of that chemistry is still very much there, and both of them are all too willing to act on it, but they have some barriers standing in their way. Lila’s awful family life as a child has left her unprepared and terrified to enter into something long term with widower Asher and his daughter, but with the danger facing Lila ever-increasing, Asher isn’t about to let her out of his sight.

“We are going to catch this guy. . . I promise. Nothing is going to happen to you. I’m not going to lose you to this.”

This is a really quick and easy read, dropping us really nicely into these two worlds and bringing all of the Kristen Proby fun, sweetness, steam and angst-free romance. Lila is a relatable heroine and I really liked her, and Asher is a gorgeously protective guy whose openness and gentleness balances nicely with his mild alpha tendencies. The length of the book necessitates a fast-moving relationship, but there’s some nice development there and I could feel the emotion between them.

“You’re the best part of my life, Delila. From day one, life has been so easy with you. You fell into my lap on that plane, and since that moment, all I could see, all I wanted, was you.”

The mystery/suspense is predictable but is done well, but for me it was all about the love story and I really enjoyed this one. Not a must-read in terms of story progression for either series, but still a great addition.

3.5 stars.

description

Easy With You is an interesting mix between romantic suspense, and a sexy, contemporary romance. At just a little over 100 pages, it's a quick and easy read, and can easily be read in one sitting. Based on the introduction to the 1001 Dark Nights, I felt that this story was a good addition, as it makes for a bedtime worthy read.

Not having read the With Me in Seattle Series or any of the prior 1001 Dark Nights novellas before, I wasn't really sure what to expect. Being a huge fan of erotic suspense titles, however, the blurb hooked me. The premise--that a Tulane professor who is the target of a serial killer could fall for the sexy, alpha, investigating detective who she had previously had a passionate one night stand with--definitely called my attention. Fortunately, I found that you don't really need to have read either of these series to enjoy Easy With You, as the background setting of the story is fully explained in the book.

Lila Bailey, is a thirty-one year-old, independent minded, Tulane professor. Having been abandoned by her mother before she could even form memories, and raised by a single, alcoholic father, she learned that the only person she could ever depend on was herself. Thus it is not a surprise that she is still single, which is just fine with her. But then a number of her female students, all members of her study group, are murdered. Lila now must determine who she can trust and rely upon.

So imagine her surprise, when one of the investigating detectives, Asher Smith, just happens to be the man that she had a very hot and passionate night with several months ago. Of course, she was under the impression that he was just visiting New Orleans when she agreed to the one-night stand. But from the looks he is giving her, when he meets her during the investigation, he can still quite vividly remember just how charged that night was.

description

Asher moved to New Orleans in an attempt to put his awful past behind him. Being a single parent of a 10-year old daughter, he knows that he owes it to his daughter to move on. So he moves to New Orleans where his brother and sister-in-law live. What he never expected was to potentially have history repeat itself. But that is one fate that he is determined to battle.

I enjoyed the characters, romance and mild suspense. As can be expected from a novella, there wasn't a lot of time to unfold lots of twisty suspense or an overly developed romance, so both are laid out rather quickly. While I wouldn't call it insta-love, the relationship certainly progresses at a rather rapid pace; and the culprit is rather easy to pick out when introduced. Nonetheless, when judged in the context of a bedtime tale, Easy With You, is certainly an entertaining read, full of some bedtime worthy, steamy passion with a developed plot to go along with it.

In particular, my favorite part of the story is Asher. How I love those alpha heroes, and it doesn't get much better than a detective whose on a mission to protect his love interest at all costs. From what I've heard, this the standard when it comes to Kristen Proby's writing, and I am definitely looking forward to exploring more of her strong alpha hero based love stories in the future!

Easy With You was a quick and exciting read. This story was quite the departure from the normal Kristen Proby reads.

Easy With You follows the story of Lila and Asher. Lila and Asher have a chance meeting on a plane where she accidentally falls in his lap. Later, as fate would have it, they once again bump into one another and wind up spending one unforgettable night together. Almost a year has passed and the two of them will once again find themselves together. Lila is a professor at a university where girls are suddenly being murdered. And who should find himself on the case? Of course, Asher. Asher will do anything to protect Lila, but this situation is coming a little too close to home. Will Asher be able to keep Lila safe??

I have to say, I really enjoyed this book. It was quite different from what we normally see from Kristen Proby and I think it worked really well. This story was fast paced, had a really intriguing plot and kept me captivated the entire time. I loved the mystery and suspense that surrounded the story. I had a few guesses as to who I thought the killer was and I really enjoyed putting all the pieces together.

I loved that this book did a With Me In Seattle and Easy Love crossover. I haven’t had the chance to read Easy Love yet, but now, I’m looking forward to jumping into that one. Overall, I really enjoyed this read. It gave me the romance and steam that I’ve come to know and love from Kristen Proby, with some great mystery and suspense added to it. Fans of Kristen Proby will not be disappointed!

Super-sweet, no angst, with a murder mystery throughout! Connects both series. Loved the sweetness! (And Casey was a doll!)

As usual I love Kristen's books! This was a quick read and slightly different from her others but I loved how she tied the two families together. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!! :-)
