Joan Carris published more than a dozen books for children as well as four textbooks. She also taught graduate-level writing at Duke University. She lived in Beaufort, North Carolina.
This is an excellent, fast-paced book about a boy whose family moves to England because of his father's work. Ms. Carris does a great job of pointing out the differences in the cultures and touching on the feelings of separation that Nick feels after being torn away from his home in the U.S., not to mention the fun of having a hedgehog in the closet. I highly recommend it for young boys.
Read this somewhere between 3rd-5th grade. I enjoyed it primarily because it was one of my older brother's books and I felt cool reading it since it was a book "for boys."
