Business analytics Essentials, part of the Self-Learning Management Series, is a great beginner’s guide to help you understand how data drives business decisions. It is laid out simply, starting with are business analytics and what are the data basics you need to know. I particularly found the tools, techniques, and descriptive analytics to be helpful. Predictive and prescriptive analytics are explained in an easy-to-understand format. There’s also a great section on ethical considerations. I enjoyed all the visuals, diagrams, examples (using popular, well known companies), and quick facts scattered throughout the chapters. I also like that the chapters conclude with a summary of the key points and then offer a quiz. You can take it all from start to finish or pick and choose the chapters that apply to your interest or need. You will get out of this as much as you are willing to put into it, but the basics are covered. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley, and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
A Clear and Practical Guide to Data-Driven Decision-Making As a professional coach who works with business leaders and entrepreneurs, I’m always on the lookout for resources that help bridge the gap between theory and actionable insight. This book does exactly that. What I especially appreciate is the book demystifies complex analytical concepts making it ideal for both beginners and those looking to refresh their understanding. The sections on data visualization, business intelligence tools, and practical applications are particularly useful. The author shows how to apply analytics in real-world business contexts. Whether you’re a manager, entrepreneur, or coach guiding others toward performance improvement, this book provides the clarity and confidence needed to make data a powerful ally in achieving business goals.
I think because I work in IT, I expect these books to have an IT flavor (in my defense, the tagline does mention data analytics and predictive techniques). However, again, this was much less about actual data analysis and more operational/non-technologically focused. It was still interesting and it presented some useful information I didn't know so it wasn't a total wash.
This book covers the business professional as well as the beginner. There are tidbits and advice for every business minded person. This makes a great resource.
