Cornish faces its deadliest threat when the Queen of Likes arrives with her army of broken followers. Broadcasting to a dead phone while her forces close in, turning survival into her version of twisted performance art. Maddie is torn between emotion and reality while Matthew struggles with betrayal and loss as those closest to him shatter under pressure. And when the community's teenagers take up weapons to defend their home, childhood dies in the crossfire.
But the real enemy might already be inside the walls, and no one is prepared for the betrayal that stings worse because of their compassion. Some crowns are built from ashes. Others burn everything down.

Altered World, book 3 in DJ Cooper's Skies Afire series in the Ravaged Skies universe is a more than worthy end to the series. Taut, intense and well conceived, Altered World contains all the elements that make the Ravaged Skies universe so appealing. The Queen's final decision, not to mention identity, is surprising and will catch you off guard. She is such a tragic character, going from a primary protagonist in book 1 to the ultimate antagonist, lost completely in her own world of delusion. The boys, Ethan, Jake and Grayson are forced to become something children should never have to be, but retain their humanity no matter what they're faced with. Retention of humanity in the face of inhumanity is a major theme of the series, and many of the books in Ravaged Skies. 5/5 stars! This book is a bit more emotional than action packed, but that only serves to increase its impact. If you're a fan of apocalyptic survival thrillers, Ravaged Skies especially, put Altered World at the top of your 'to read' list, you'll be glad you did!
Altered World delivers a tense and increasingly dangerous post-apocalyptic story where survival depends not only on confronting threats from outside, but also on recognizing the dangers developing within the community. The arrival of the Queen of Likes and her army of broken followers immediately raises the stakes, turning an already fragile situation into a fight for the survival of everyone in Cornish.
One of the most compelling elements is the way the novel combines physical danger with emotional conflict. Maddie struggles between emotion and reality, while Matthew is forced to deal with betrayal and loss as pressure exposes weaknesses among those around him. The decision of the community's teenagers to take up weapons adds another powerful dimension, showing how quickly a world in crisis can force young people to abandon the safety and innocence of childhood.
The story also explores the complicated nature of trust. The possibility that the real enemy may already be inside the walls creates an atmosphere of uncertainty where compassion itself can become a vulnerability. That combination of external threat, internal betrayal, emotional tension, and survival gives the novel a strong sense of momentum.
For readers who enjoy post-apocalyptic fiction, survival stories, dystopian communities, psychological tension, and narratives centered on loyalty and betrayal, Altered World offers an engaging and darkly atmospheric experience. The novel's focus on community, sacrifice, and the consequences of surviving in a broken world gives it appeal beyond straightforward action-driven apocalypse fiction.
The Thompson farm readies itself for the approaching threat of this “Queen of Likes” with the help of Maddie’s father’s notebooks he left for her. Everyone pitches in to help with the exception of Elana. She is growing needy and has became oh so jealous of any time Matthew spends working around Maddie. The boys hone their skills, becoming much needed scouts and information gatherers. Mother Nature rears her ugly head and lashes everyone with the storm of the century, effectively slowing down the Queen and her forces as the farm desperately tries to finish their defenses. Get ready for some surprises! This was a well written trilogy that I enjoyed immensely.
The people of Cornish are prepared to defend against the Queen of Likes and her army but are they prepared for the shocking discoveries of betrayal plus the happy and heartbreaking reunions? The people of Cornish before and after the battle will be forever changed. Another great addition to the Ravaged Skies series.
The Author builds tensions as the compound prepares, the enemy approaches, and the insane leader reaches her breaking point. Which point in the deadly triangle will snap first?
It’s a good book and kept me reading. It’s just the timeline again. The timeline doesn’t add up. It makes the flow of the story a little hard to stay with
