Warriors of the Continuum Part Two: Deception

Rate this book
“It is my people who suffer at the hand of the Iyes! My people! So when we hear the Warriors have arrived and are preparing for battle against us, what do we do? What do I do? I fight! I fight to save my people!”
The Ensi, leader of the Ka

Hounded by adherents of Kaos, god of the Dark, the reluctant Warriors strive to protect the Iyes tribe, while desperately seeking truths within the shadows of the harsh land into which they’ve been thrust. Who truly are the Ka, these ancient enemies of the Iyes? Where is the Kade, the supposed source of the enemy’s power? And the Geddon, the Land’s Armageddon – what is this ultimate threat hanging over them, over all Life in the Continuum?

In seeking answers, the words of the god of the Light, IY, haunt them. “Fighters on the battlefield will not win this war.” The Warriors realise they must engage with both the power of the Land, the A’ven, and with the unpredictable allies of IY, the daemons. And they must learn to co-exist with the soul of an ancient Warrior beside them. And for those left in another age, who also see the rising of the Dark? How can they help their friends prevent the unfolding chaos? Maybe with the aid of a traitor?

Deception is the second part of the Warriors of the Continuum Trilogy, and tells of a great deception, one hiding secrets in plain sight. It seems the Story of the Iyes does not tell all. No, a game is being played … but by whom, and why?

Roger P. Heath a life-long geologist whose favourite film is It’s a Wonderful Life, and whose bookshelves include works such as Elif Shafak's There are Rivers in the Sky, Steven Erikson’s Malazan Book of the Fallen, and Roddy Doyle’s Barrytown Trilogy.

The peculiar workings of his mind once threw out a phrase: No one knows but I, who wrote this here and why. He captured the thought, then laid the journal aside. Many sun-cycles later, he found those dust-laden notes and decided to find out what those words meant. This led him to Lanky, Jessica, and Beth. And Naga and the Iyes. And Shadow and the Ka. And ... Well, to the tale of the Warriors of the Continuum, a tale of courage, love, and hope cast in both shadow and light.

Now that his trilogy of Arrival, Deception, and Life has been published, he's trying to lock himself back to his writing desk to get on with his fourth novel. But that Spring weather out there is so inviting …

Warriors of the Continuum Part Two: Deception (Warriors of the Continuum Trilogy Book 2)
by Roger P. Heath

I received a complimentary copy from Rowanvale Books and am voluntarily leaving my review.

From the very first page, Deception pulls you back into the world of the Warriors, a realm that feels both vast and intimate. Heath continues to expand his universe with remarkable imagination, weaving layers of mystery, mythology, and human emotion into something that feels truly alive.

What struck me most was how personal this story feels despite its epic scale. Beneath all the prophecy, power, and ancient forces lies something very human - the uncertainty of trust, the ache of betrayal, and the constant search for truth when nothing is as it seems. The theme of deception isn’t just a plot device; it’s a mirror, reflecting the way people, even in our own world, struggle with what’s real and what’s hidden behind appearances.

The worldbuilding remains one of Heath’s strongest achievements. Every detail, from the history of the Ka and Iyes to the mysteries surrounding the Land, feels purposeful. You can tell there’s a deep lore at work here, but it never loses its emotional pulse.

The characters, especially the Warriors themselves, feel more layered than before. They’re not flawless heroes; they’re complex, often reluctant, shaped by the weight of what’s expected of them. That realism makes their victories more satisfying and their struggles far more resonant.

The pacing feels tighter and more confident than in the first book. There’s a rhythm to the writing, the tension rising and falling, that keeps you fully invested. I didn’t find any awkward moments or inconsistencies; everything flowed naturally, each revelation fitting neatly into the larger design.

Emotionally, this book leaves a mark. It’s introspective and haunting, full of “what ifs”. What if everything you believe is wrong? What if the truth is buried within the lies? That constant pull between faith and doubt is what makes Deception not just a fantasy novel, but a reflection on human nature itself.

In short, this is a rich, deeply imaginative, and emotionally stirring continuation of the series. Heath’s writing feels confident and meaningful, the tone dark yet hopeful, the message timeless: even in a world built on deception, truth and courage still matter.

I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who enjoys intricate, thought-provoking fantasy with moral depth and heart.

REVIEW
I understand this is going to be a trilogy. Now, we all know the middle book is often the – hmm, how to put this? The not so good book. And we all know why. It’s not the exciting beginning where everything is new and original to the reader, and it’s not the exciting end with the big, final battle. It’s, well, the middle bit. And, apart from the original Star Wars films, the ‘middle bit’ tends to suffer. But I must say, the author, Roger P. Heath, did a good job here. There’s excellent character development throughout, and the many (many!) elements of the story – the Dark, the Geddon, the Cords, etc. are smartly intertwined into a complex, rewarding, and often even suspenseful plot.
Now, I loved the first book! As for book two – yes, it’s excellent too. Is it as good as book one? Almost. But similar to Arrival, it’s a little slow going in parts. I sort of wish the editor had been a bit more aggressive with the red pen. By cutting this novel by, say, 10%, it would have better pacing and, I suspect, it would feel ‘tighter’ in term of plotting. Still, there’s a lot (A LOT!) to enjoy here for fans of lengthy ‘epic’ fantasy. And, let’s face it, there are a lot of them. In fact, I have a pal (big reader) who will only read a fantasy book if it’s the size of a brick.
Now, this is the important bit. Is it a standalone novel? I’d say, no. I think it’s vital to read Arrival first before embarking on Deception. If you don’t, you’ll be horribly confused. Saying that, the second book is, in many ways, a story of answers. You get to discover who the enemy is, and the almost impossible task facing the novel’s protagonists; and I finally got my head around The Continuum and how it all works.
All in all, a strong ‘middle’ to this epic trilogy, but I still suspect the last book, when it lands, will be the best of the three.

Brief disclaimer that I was given my copy by Rowanvale Publishers for free, but all opinions are my own and I was not compensated in any way for reading this book.

Having read the first part of this trilogy, I can say that my interest hasn’t wavered at all with the second entry! The unique nature and life of the world building Heath set up originally is fleshed out even more. I personally quite like having multiple POVs when there’s a large cast of characters - it helps make everyone stand out, although it would have been helpful to have a clear indication in the title of whose POV we were reading from. Although, I do understand not doing so to keep the narrative flow.

I really appreciated all the details in this book - I often struggle to visualize locations so having the sketches of important settings was an amazing touch! All in all, it was a continuation of what I loved about the first book, and it was great having characters like Shadow take a larger focus here.

At over 700+ pages, this is quite a long investment, but I would say well worth it for a fantasy fan looking for a new world to sink their teeth into.

Deception Is part two in the Warriors of the Continuum series, and if you like epic fantasy/ metaphysical fantasy, this, I'm sure, will be right up your street.

At just over 780 pages, it's certainty a hefty tome, but it's a tale packed to the brim with valiant warriors of old, commanding gods, fantastical tribes and treacherous enemies around every corner. So it's guaranteed to hold your attention to the very end.

For me, I'd say this can't be read as a standalone, there's just too much you wouldn't understand if you hadn't read "Arrival', so be sure to read that before starting on "Deception'.

I will say though, I found it to be a little slow in parts, but in the main, the storyline bobs along nicely and answers some important questions from book one.

World building is great, and character development, decent, and I read this over about a week.

All in all, a good second installment and I look forward to part three "Life"

4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 's from me.

Having read the first book in the series, I was so excited to dive into the second book, to find out how the story continues. As I expected, it was every bit as good as the first, if not better. We return to the world of brave warriors, being ready to dive into a story that features plenty of mysteries. A fantasy world which seems real, with strange tribes, powerful gods, and dangerous enemies, as the author wonderfully describes it. If you are a fan of the fantasy genre, then you definitely have to give this series a try. I absolutely loved the intense pace at which the action unfolds. I do not want to give anything away, but I can tell you that the author has chosen the title to perfection. In the second part, we can expect for secrets to ruin everything. What will happen with the tribes and the warriors? And what is the threat hanging over them? There are so many great things to enjoy about this book, I am sure it will be loved. Highly recommended on my part! I received a free copy of this book from Rowanvale Books, but the opinion I posted is my own and not biased in any way.

Warriors of the Continuum Part Two: Deception builds on the saga with vivid world-building, spiritual depth, and rising tension. Roger P. Heath expands the Continuum with new characters, layered loyalties, and betrayals that keep the reader invested. The blend of myth, tribal culture, and political intrigue is both imaginative and emotionally resonant.

At times, the sheer number of characters and plot threads can feel overwhelming, and a slightly clearer path through the alliances would help readers stay anchored. Even so, the novel delivers a gripping mix of dreams, conspiracies, and spiritual conflict that sets the stage for an exciting finale.

Thank you to Rowanvale Publishers for the opportunity to read and review this title. This review was written voluntarily.

Book Review

Book Name: Deception
Author: Roger P. Heath

"My fate? Who chose this for me? Who decided it should be me?"

This is the second book in the "Warriors of the Continuum" installment. As the first, this is a treat to all fantasy lovers. Since I have read 'Arrival', this was easy to follow, and I urge you to do the same. The story will take you into a fantasy land for sure. The reader can expect a combination of elements of fantasy, history, magic, fiction, and many more.

The story definitely needs a lot of patience to complete as it takes a lot of time. One of the possible reasons I see is the slow pace. However, I wouldn't suggest it to beginners.

Deception by Roger P Heath.
Warriors of the Continuum, Part Two.
This was a really good read. Even though I haven't read book one I was sort of able to read it. I loved the cover. The green eyes had me. So eerie. I did like the world-building. I loved the flying dragons and sea creatures. It was like a mini movie in my head. Wow. I will definitely look at book one. It did take me a few days to read this book. I definitely recommend this series.

I am reviewing this book on behalf of my husband. I went back and read the first book in the Warriors of the continuum series on kindle unlimited so that I could truly engross myself into the story. I found the world building to be richly developed filled with myths, mysteries and layered morality complexities. I found the characters to be multi faceted and the difficulties they faced added a heavy weight and added tension to the story that had me turning page after page

This is book 2 of the Warriors of the Continuum trilogy and can’t be read as a standalone. The story continues with characters from the previous book along with new ones to further round out the already rich and intricate world. Friends Beth, Jessica, and Lanky time slip into an ancient, tribal world where tension between followers of the gods of light, Iyes, and the followers of the gods of darkness, Kaos, has broken into a war. The morally gray Nefra and the brave Shadow are introduced in book two. True to its name, the story was filled with twists, turns, and deceptions (some intentional and some unbeknownst). Although not as fast-paced as book one, the action, heart, unique magic system, and elaborate world-building still made this an enjoyable read!

Thank you so much to Roger Heath and Love Book Tours for a gifted copy of this book!
