Bucket To Greece Volume 18: A Comical Living Abroad Adventure

Rate this book
Abandoned in a bucket…to new adventures in Greece

The delightfully comic account of a British couple and their imported cats starting over in a new country continues in Bucket to Greece Volume 18. Victor’s stint at running the kafenion for a couple of days attracts many customers expecting the foreigner to fall flat on his face. Apostolos finally gets razor happy on our hero’s hair, leaving Victor open to mass ridicule, and Pelham’s accident opens the door for Marigold to replay the Buckets own romance by matchmaking a public health inspector with a pet food taster.

Anxious about meeting Terrance, his ex-con, half-brother, Victor drags Violet Burke along. Gournopoula tops the menu on the gastronomic walking tour, Guzim is showered with livestock, Victor rescues a calico, and Kouneli gets his comeuppance. If you’re a fan of Greek travel and culture then the Bucket to Greece series is a must, with a bucketful of laughs along the way.

Easy-to-read, fast-moving, with lots of laughs.

18 books in, and still these are fresh and addictive. It's like coming home being amongst those who live in the village again.

Having read all of his previous books in the series, I couldn't wait for this new installment. But should I read it straightaway? Then I would have no more books from him for a while......or should I wait a bit? I waited a few hours, that's all! 😀 Just had to get cracking! Hurry up with volume 19 now please!

He just has the knack of keeping us readers hooked. Easy-to-read, fast-moving, with lots of laughs.

Some yummy-sounding food descriptions in here.  My mouth was watering as he described what he was preparing for lunch one day.

What can I say that I haven't said before? 18 books, and 18 times that winning formula is there: Moving and living abroad, humour, village characters who make you smile every time each one enters the latest volume. I've read this latest as soon as it came out, so I'm hoping the next is already in the pipeline. Mr Bucket, keep doing what you're doing!

Brilliant! Some hilarious, and unexpected moments. I just can't get enough of Greek village life with the Buckets.

I have read all 18 installments of the Bucket to Greece series, and I have to be honest, I hadn't wanted to read any of them. I love a live abroad book, but this always felt like it might just be too jokey... I mean, it's called a Comical Living Abroad Adventure.

But I was wrong. It's sweet. It's filled with characters that you get to know along the way, and their troubles are what we experience in real life... although without the language barrier, being trapped with a small community of English speakers, and random, unknown family members popping up unexpectedly. It's funny, but it's also kind, and today, in this world, I want kind books. Reading these was like joining a madcap group of English speakers on an island where nothing is familiar, and yet they find a way to get along with each other and the folks who live on the island. Gilligan's Island meets Robinson Curuso with a dash of zany English comedies.

What a treat it was to read the latest instalment in the wonderfully entertaining Bucket to Greece series. Back in Meli again amongst friends and family, catching up with the latest goings on. and meeting all the village characters that I feel I know and love. You may think that not much happens in a sleepy Greek village but you would be totally wrong!
There'a any number of events that arouse the interest of other villagers - not that they are at all nosey - and occasionally a bit of drama. One of my favourites was Victor getting roped in to help out Manolis. There was huge interest in that!
I love Victor's engaging, chatty conversational style of writing which is easy to read and certainly keeps me turning the pages! I was going to keep this book to read on holiday but that clearly didn't happen, I just gave in and started reading it. almost straight away. I'm already looking forward to book 19 - I want to hear more of Victor's brother, his little rescue kitten and more village news. I'm sure the legion of Bucket fans feel exactly the same.

This series is my “Happy Series” and I can’t wait till the next one comes out. They never disappoint and are also delightful to reread. These hilarious and endearing stories are best read in order so you know the characters. Please don’t wait: we all need cheering up about something. All Vic’s books are full of chuckles, belly laughs and smiles!

The Bucket To Greece series is about British expat life in the Mani area of Greece, told with humor and style. I always drop everything and read each new installment immediately.....it's a big favorite for me.

Another captivating account of life in a small Greek village.
Followers of Victor Bucket will enjoy this next instalment of Victor and Marigold's life in Greece together with his mother.
Personally I can hardly wait for the next instalment. I'm giving nothing away as that would spoil the fun.

It’s incredible that this is book 18 in the series and the story never gets boring. It really should get made into a sitcom.
