Nothing can top being assigned to protect his ex’s dad. Unless he falls in love with him, of course.
Years ago, Kash thought he would spend the rest of his life with Valon. Then Valon got famous and everything changed. Nowadays, Kash walks a little on the wrong side of the law. The last thing Kash expects is to get offered a job protecting Valon’s dad, Ledger. Even more surprising, Kash accepts. He needs a place to chill for a while anyway. Surely nothing could go wrong.
Ledger has always had mixed feelings about Kash. At one time, Ledger fully believed Kash would be his son-in-law one of these days. Then Valon’s band skyrocketed to the top of the charts, and they were over. As Valon’s father, it’s his job to steer clear of Kash. Unfortunately, there’s something about Kash. Face to face, he doesn’t feel the loathing Valon likely expects. He feels something else when he sees Kash, something way worse.

Kash never expects to be hired to protect his ex’s father, Ledger — or to feel an unexpected pull toward him. Ledger once thought Kash would be part of the family, but seeing him again stirs something far more complicated than resentment. As they’re thrown together, old assumptions crumble and a dangerous, undeniable attraction takes its place.
This story had such an undeniable pull between Kash and Ledger — the kind of slow, magnetic attraction that sneaks up on both men and refuses to be ignored. Their connection is laced with emotion, tenderness, and a surprising softness that builds beautifully as the walls between them come down. I loved how the story balanced heat with genuine feeling, letting both men reveal their vulnerabilities in ways that felt honest and deeply human. The emotional undercurrent is strong throughout, making their growing bond not just believable but incredibly moving. A heartfelt, tender romance full of longing, connection, and two men finding something they never expected in each other. This was an MM story with mature content.
I love bodyguard romances, and I really enjoyed the prequel to this series with Steel as one of the MCs.
This was a fun start to a new series. It was a fairly quick read, nothing too angsty. It glosses over a lot of the background of the two MCs, which I was fine with. Sometimes I'm up for a huge detailed backstory, but I thought the book was better without it.
There were a few typos, specifically names of MCs that were obviously wrong (referring to one of the MCs when it was clear another was supposed to be mentioned instead) that got a little distracting.
A lovely story, a great start to this new series. Charity Parkerson does what she does best, tell beautiful love stories within a compact manner and style.
