I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher for promotional purposes.
This was just as amazing as volume 1! I loved the first volume, so it was no surprise that I loved the follow-up.
The book picks up right where the last one ended. From there, it was nonstop action and excitement. The story was super fast paced and there was never a dull moment. I love how weird, yet philosophical this series is. It not only entertains, but makes you think.
Additionally, there was a side story taking place which was told through short interlude chapters. I enjoyed it and am very curious to see how it ends up tying into the larger story.
Once again the artwork was phenomenal. The colors are bright and vibrant and I enjoyed the art style switch whenever the characters entered a new reality. There was also a fold-out 4 page spread depicting the battle scene and it was gorgeous.
This series does an amazing job at letting the art tell the story. A noteworthy example was when the characters entered a collective consciousness. The way that was illustrated was brilliant!
Overall, I continue to be so impressed with this series. I cannot wait for to see how it ends in the third and final volume!

Book 2 is the fitting sequel (or end to the arc) of this series. It might be more trippy than the first book, This might be the most philosophical and spiritual than Book 1. What you have enjoyed in Book 1 is different here yet a must read. I like how they added some characters which is part of this installment. Be prepared for an emotional ending.

Once again, this series slaps! We continue right where we left off in book one, and I gotta say, I think I enjoyed this one even more! Toy robots and walking corpses? Say less! The artwork changes when they travel to a new world is so much fun and really shows off the skills of the artist! Dystopian novels are my favorite, and this one knocks it out of the park. The storytelling is absolutely phenomenal, and the graphics just tie it all together perfectly. I love seeing these two work together! The side story had me especially intrigued, and I hope to see more about it in the next volume.

Ahh i got the second volume to one of the greatest graphic novels! Essentials Volume 2 picks up the story of Harris Pax, the mathematician whose prediction of the apocalypse proved horrifyingly accurate. With reality fractured and humanity's future hanging in the balance, Harris is forced to return to the underground bunker where everything began.
He's accompanied by an unlikely collection of allies that includes walking corpses, toy robots and other wonderfully bizarre companions. He journeys through worlds filled with monsters, angels and impossible realities in a desperate attempt to restore what has been lost and stop the threat once and for all.
Absolutely gripping and captivating storyline. Brilliantly illustrated. The blend of genres and the storytelling is compelling. The slip case OMG! I've got nothing but praises for everything about this book. I mean, everything is top quality. This is one of those graphic novels where the art and story elevate each other at every turn. Essentials Volume 2 is a wildly creative continuation. A thrilling, imaginative and thoroughly entertaining sequel.

I loved the first book. I knew I wanted to read the 2nd book too, and I kept hoping there would be book two soon. After all, we all know books that have part one, but part two never comes. Thankfully, this was not that case. Book two is here and it is as awesome as it can be. It is as awesome as the 1st book.
Also, a small note - all of @thelabpress’s books are exclusively produced as very high-quality hardcover art books in matching slipcases, those are SO SO GORGEOUS. They take the collector's item to the next level.

I loved the first book in this series and I enjoyed the second book even more. I love the clever way the authors take the concept of good and evil and create these dynamic worlds that verbally and visually highlight the importance of finding a balance in your beliefs.
The illustrations are so gorgeous that I found myself reading the words first and then going back to really study the images and the way they brought those words to life. The use of color, or the absence of, and different fonts also contributed to the dramatic impact of the overall storyline.
This beautiful hardcover edition makes a great gift and a stunning addition to both collectors and home library enthusiasts. I'm thrilled to be able to display this incredible essential graphic novel right alongside the first one in the series.

This book is simply phenomenal. The colors. The pictures, everything just beautiful. Whatever the Labpress comes up with is always do fantastic. I've read like 4 books of this studio before and each one just gets better than the next. This one is faster than Vol 1 so you should know I enjoyed this one more.
With this book, I become a certified graphics novel fan and will be reading more by the author. The dystopian storyline is simply so good it brought me back to the 2010s. Although the horror elements are not my fave but this book was so compelling I had to read it twice.
About the artwork and graphics, it's so good that it could make me cry. The creativity that goes in on these pages, omg. Makes me feel like I'm *inside* the story. The slipcase is so pretty too. Everything about this book is 10/10 get it asap

Essentials two continues all the great stuff from the first, between the creative realities, amazing art, and exploration of what it means to be human.
We have a larger focus on Buttons in this book, and there is a new side story taking place (The Lighthouse) which is such a creative addition.
I loved what this book had to day about sacrifice, and about choosing the hard path if it is the right one. Again, recommended for people who are looking for something different in comics and graphic novels.

I’m thrilled to have gotten a copy of this sequel to Essentials Volume One. I loved this story and the gorgeous art as much as I loved the first book. The storytelling is creative, unique, and thought-provoking, with nonstop action and a hero to root for who had an insurmountable journey ahead of him.
