well having had no internet for 2 weeks and no laptop for 3 weeks (and no tv for 3 years) it's about time I began to write up all the books I've read in the last few weeks when internet and laptop connections merged into one, if I can remember all the plots now! I'll begin with Murder with Malice by Deirdre Oliver, this is the first in the Georgia West books, Georgia was a top police officer, this is set in Australia, but her lover of a policeman set her up to fail a case and she was demoted to a lowly in uniform grade and sent to work in a police station which had a motley uninspiring crew led by a man heading for retirement and wanting a quieter life. All that was shaken up by the discovery of a very very badly mutilated body of a young girl outside a shop. What made it worse was that she was alive for most of the horrific mutilations, her feet were slashed so she couldn't crawl away from her attacker. Georgia badly wanted their station to deal with this murder, and then she discovered that this young woman was one of many from a couple of places elsewhere in the world with the same pattern of mutilations. She managed to gee up her commanding officer and get him motivated to keep the case and then gee up the uninspiring group of young officers to sweep them along with her leadership.
This was a very good book, the mutilations were truly truly horrid and some of the language left a lot to be desired but maybe australia is like america, they swear a lot there as well. This is a good opening starter for a new series by Deirdre Oliver, have read all the Hannah Tree books too and they were good!
