Presenting the latest one-shot focusing on some of the best-loved (or loathed) characters from the Transformers Universe. The spotlight falls on ARCEE, Autobot by allegiance but utterly mad, bad, and dangerous to know! Driven by personal demons, waging a war against an enemy that may only exist in her head, Arcee is considered too dangerous to ever be let loose. But desperate times call for desperate measures!
Simon Christopher Francis Furman is a British comic book writer who is best known for his work on Hasbro/Tomy's Transformers franchise, starting with writing Marvel's initial comic book to promote the toyline worldwide, as well as foundations for both Dreamwave Production's and IDW Publishing's takes on the Generation 1 minifranchise.
I need you to imagine me kicking my feet and twirling my hair during this whole review.
God, I love Arcee. This Spotlight is great. It hooks you instantly and holds you there the entire time. IDW's Arcee is very different from every other Arcee we get and where there is a lot of room to complain about it we've got to admit; She's kind of sick as hell.
This is my obligatory paragraph where I rate Spotlights based on whether it is about that character (Hell yeah), a side-story (Nope.) or a major canon event (Yeah...). I really don't think Spotlights should be major canon events. This one in particular is hard and strange. The break out at G-9 is very plot important, but Arcee is almost not important. She does not appear again in the comic very much but instead haunts the story arc. You can see Jetfire and Fort Max's guilt, Prowl alludes that he knows, they find her carnage and imply no one knows what happened there. Her footprints are everywhere but not her. This is arguably the first of Spotlights to be an optional major plot event.
Advances the story in a good way. It's cool to see how gestalt technology starts among the Transformers, and to imagine where it is going. Good artwork too. Recommended.
