Never Over

Rate this book
A swoony second-chance romance where facing the one who broke your heart could be the thing that makes your dream come true.

Twenty-five-year-old Paige Lancaster is one contract away from earning a living doing her favorite thing in the writing songs. But when a music industry professional suggests she might be holding back with her lyrics to lessen the heartbreak of an old flame, Paige doubts if her music is ready to be heard.

In a rare, impulsive move, Paige reaches out to Liam Bishop after four years of no-contact to ask him for a small date her, and then re-break her heart, all so she can remember what those big, song-worthy emotions felt like. And since Liam is the one who first set Paige on this career path, he hesitantly agrees.

Across two months of Liam’s summer work travel, the exes are forced to share hotel beds, rehash the past, and date in the present, all while navigating the building attraction between them they both swore was the one line of their agreement they wouldn’t cross.

But when it becomes near impossible not to act on their rippling chemistry, and as ever intensifying feelings blur reality with what’s driven by the music, Paige and Liam will both have to decide which is more art for the sake of it, or love over everything.

"Never Over combines three of my favorite music, men whose middle name is Yearn, and Clare Gilmore's gorgeous writing. I found myself reading slowly because, selfishly, I never wanted to get kicked out of Paige and Liam's world. This book is tender, intimate, and ridiculously engrossing, and with it, Clare shows why she's one of the most impressive voices in the romance genre."—Jessica Joyce, USA Today bestselling author of The Ex Vows

3,5⭐️

“She’s mine,” he calls out, and then, like he’s correcting himself, “She’s with me.”

“Tell me what you want. I’ll be what ever you want.”

This story is a second chance romance, where after years of no contact, Paige realizes that she needs Liam’s help to come up with new song lyrics. He became her muse but he didn’t agree just to help her. He wants something too.

From the beginning Paige was so relatable. I think many people can understand her. The character development was definitely needed though. Her and Liam’s story was just so cute. I loved the second chance romance but I do think that things develop a little too fast. It was in such a short frame that I think much more could have happened to lead them to that point. Still, it was still such a fluffy and easy read that still made me feel all kind of things.

The Narrator’s voice was really fitting especially the accent that Paige also has! The pacing was okay but I listened to it sped up because sometimes that story seemed to drag on and sometimes it was like I’m in that world.
Overall the story and the narrator’s work were very fitting together.

4.25 ⭐️ I had no expectations going into this book - zero - which I’ve now decided is how I should go about reading most books from here on out.

Never Over by Clare Gilmore blew me away. It had all of the elements needed to disappoint me (second chance romance playing out over the backdrop of the music scene is not my typical vibe), and yet… and yet… I loved it.

Musician, Paige, gets the chance of a lifetime to hang up her server uniform and start working with a record label, but only if she is able to show that she can write meaningful music that resonates with fans. Reflecting on when she last “felt something real”, Paige tracks down her ex, Liam, and asks him to make her fall in love with him again in order to bring back the feelings that inspired some of her best music. Reluctantly Liam agrees to help Paige find her spark again in order to launch her career, but through all of the togetherness our two MCs start to question what lead to their breakup in the first place. Told over two timelines Never Over is not just a love story about second chances, but of growing up and finding your place in the world.

The emotion and yearning in this book is *chefs kiss*. This book surprised me in the best ways possible.

Thank you RB Media and NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Definitely a page turner (even though I listened to the audiobook). There are so many quotes that I wish I could share (but again I listened to the audiobook). With that being said, I felt there was a level of angst that was missing. I appreciated how the main characters just slid back into place in this second chance love story BUT I feel because of that we got more tension building in the flashbacks than in the present timeline. I think that is more realistic but it also just needed a little umph. The epilogue was fantastic with the part about how songs can impact people which included some of the supporting characters being impacted by Paige’s music without realizing. 4.5/5, rounding down.

Bump this rating up to 4.5 stars. Carly Robins does a great job narrating this second chance romance. I love her southern accents. This book is my first Clare Gilmore book. The author dedicates this book to her sisters and describes it as a love letter to sisterhood. But, it’s definitely a rom com!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advance reader audio copy. I also purchased the book of the month hard copy.
