“Skye Warren is such a talented storyteller. I love the way she infuses emotion and eroticism together.” – Romantic Book Affairs I stand very still, holding a pen I shouldn’t be touching, in the office of a man I’ve never met. The man who’s standing behind me now. The man who has his hand on my hip. He’s my new boss. I could fight him, but then he might ask questions. He might find out about my criminal record, the one I didn’t mention on the job application. So I let him make me come, but he wants more. He needs more, and for some reason I want to give it. But if he finds out about my lie, I’ll be out on the streets—or back in jail. **************** His for Christmas is a sexy dark billionaire romance intended for readers over eighteen. I would defiantly recommend this one! It was a great dark holiday novella! I cant wait to read more by Ms. Warren that’s for sure!" - Dani's Book Reviews
Quick, dirty and sexy pretty much sums up this little Christmas novella from Skye Warren. I picked it up free from Amazon, but to be honest I enjoyed it enough I would have been happy to pay for it.
"Don't make the mistake of thinking I'm a good man."
Rich Alpha Male / Down-on-her-luck, inexperienced female... Nothing really new or original about the trope, but it was well written and I quite liked Gage and Angel, and the two weeks they spend together in this novella.
This was a quick read, and it was just an ok read for me. It is one of those books that you read, and then in a few weeks you will forget what it was about! At least that is what will happen to me. I read so many books that if I am not sucked right in, and the characters are not imprinted in my heart; then I will eventually forget. "His for Christmas" was for sure...just ok. I have loved Skye Warren's books in the past. She usually concentrates on the darker stories; which I love...but this one wasn't as dark as her other books. I suppose that considering the holiday season, it is probably better to keep it on the sweet side!
If you are looking for a quick and easy read, that has some sizzling sex...then give this one a go. Happy Holidays..xoxoxo
His For Christmas started off really badly. Reality fell away when our 18 year old heroine leaves prison after two years with no money or support... Then, fortunately falls into a New York City flat without having to give any rent for the first month.... Then lands herself a temp job as a secretary to a billionaire.
Yup. That happens.
It went well after that. Skye Warren's erotic scenes were the highlight, as was the writing style, it was lush. I enjoyed the hero too, he was a sensitive soul with a gentle bossy BDSM fetish.
But I had to go and suspend my belief again, the LC's 'daddy' issues arose, and I thought it was just ridiculous, all for the purpose of explaining their reasons for enjoying the kink.
All in all, good characters, short read, very well written and hot sex scenes, ridiculous circumstances. If it wasn't for the latter it could have been a 4 star read.
Angel is looking for a fresh start after taking the fall for her boyfriend, landing herself behind bars. Taking on a temp position for an ogre of a boss, has her willing to do just about anything to stay employed. But when Gage mistakes the meek girl in his office as an escort and even though she’s confused by the things he’s saying, she doesn’t say no.
They come to an understanding as Gage regrets his actions and Angel explains her need of a job – but now that he’s touched her once, he can’t seem to stop his desire – but there’s a darkness that lives in him and it isn’t until she pushes him to expose his deepest secrets, that he unleashes it.
I really loved the dynamic of this story – the start was a great moment and I really could have read a few hundred more pages just focused on these two characters.
It had hot BDSM and erotic scenes that you will not want to miss out on. The storyline does not hurt either :D
When a girl who took the rap for her ex-boyfriend is released from prison, finally finds a job and then mistakenly is believed to be a Christmas present he usually hires... Things are bound to get heavy, hot and hectic.
I was a little surprised by this one. I go into this writer's work expecting dark mind fucks. For her, this was positively cheery. It might not be your typical Christmas story, but I enjoyed it. There where a couple of logic fails, but I'm overlooking them for the nookie.
2.5-stars Wanderlust was my first book by Skye Warren, a disturbingly dark read that really held my attention from the start. This novella is not a dark read at all. The connection between MCs weren't tied together in a convincing way.
My first book from this author and it's not bad at all. It would have been a 5 stars read if it's a little longer. Gage and Angel are awesome. Angel is recently released from jail and decided to apply at Gage Thompson's company. His reputation is The Big Bad Billionaire.
For the life of me I can't explain why this novella has an overall rating of 3.6. I really liked it! True to form for this author we have tortured, broken characters with their own dark pasts, their own dark desires. Now, granted there wasn't an amazing amount of slow-burn and overwhelming character development (it's a novella, after all), but I'm impressed with what Skye Warren accomplished in the short space of a novella. This isn't just erotica. There is growth to be had here, by both of the main characters. I've seen less of a character arc in full-length novels than what she managed to bring to these pages. Anyway, I really liked this one. It hooked me in right from go, and I couldn't stop reading until I finished. Will Gage find out about Angel's past? What will happen to our dear Angel, even if she manages to keep her temp job for the whole time? She still needs a job the following week after that. What is this crazy chemistry with Gage, and why is he so bizarrely opposed to letting anything happen that isn't strictly by his direction/rules? I recommend this for a spicy Christmas novella to warm up a cold holiday night!
This was my first time reading anything by this author and I can only say 'WOW', I cannot wait to read more. This was one very hot read that kept me reading from page one to the very end. Even though it was short it did not take anything away from the development of the characters who I really felt for. I felt sorry for both of them for the things that had happened to make them the wounded people they were. Even if one was a billionaire, his life was no picnic with the inner scars he carried.
Angel Cole gets out of prison after two years and wants to make something of her life. She has gotten an Associates degree and hopes to get a place to live and work in New York. The only problem is that putting her criminal record on applications keeps getting her turned down for jobs, so she finally leaves it off.
Gage Thompson, also known as the Big Bad, owns Thompson Industries and is not considered a very nice man. His life is his work and he only indulges in sex play rarely, and then only with pros. Though he is rich he has a darkness in his past that keeps him from living life like the rest of the world. Then she comes into his life and all bets are off.
It caught me off guard how much I liked this story. It had me tearing up for the hurt both had lived with, but then it gave me some seriously hot scenes that made me just wish I could have Gage for an hour or two. Short but so worth the time to read it. I say go for it!
So many issues I had with this book, which is a shame as I usually love Skye Warren's novels. We have a hero that is a grown man, not a new adult, who doesn't do relationships because his father was a rapist and a murderer and he is afraid that he will do the same to women. Wait, what? His mother was the sole surviving victim of his father, and he is the memento that he left her with. Unpack that for a minute.
So because he likes a little kink and his sex a little rougher, this man has never had a relationship with a woman. Never.
And our heroine had a father who was always telling her she was dumb and perving on her so she ran away as a young teen, hooked up with a drug dealer, got arrested for holding his drugs for him in her own apartment (while she was still a teen) with no reference as to how she even HAD the apartment as a minor with no job (I'm sure the boyfriend had something to do with this, but it very clearly states it was hers, not his, so confusion), is incarcerated for 2 yrs, gets her GED and associates, moves, gets a job as a temp, lets her boss finger bang her because it has been so long, and continues to work for him. She says she got out of prison. Multiple times. So tried as an adult. Bit her records were sealed because she was a minor. And didn't know.
Guys, this story was so thin, and there were so many plot holes, I could see clear through to the other side. Am I a little frustrated? You betcha.

She is 18, she gets out of jail. SHe has 20 dollars. So she takes a bus to New York where she gets a place to stay, and I guess new clothes too, since she gets a job as the secretary for one of the richest guys in the country? Really? I know she lies on her form, but srsly, with this guy people would do some research.
Also, rapey.
No thanks.
It also seems that they fall in love a few secs later.
10/18 re-read: Still a 5-star read! I love this book so much - it hits all the right spots, sweet and tender, dirty and just a little depraved. Ultimately, Gage and Angel desperately needed each other and, in the spirit of Christmas giving, they found each other.
The couple: Gage and Angel
Romance genre: mistaken escort Length: 119 pages
Plot: Angel ended up in prison, and after a two-year sentence (for something she didn't do), she finds herself free but impoverished. Luckily, she finds both a place to live and a job. The job though; the problem is that her new boss mistakes her for an escort that he ordered. Now that he's touched her, he doesn't want to stop. Maybe they can come to an agreement during this season of giving.
Commentary: I loved this story. I have read this trope (mistaken for an escort) a few times but always in insta-love novellas. I wouldn't say this isn't that sort of book, but maybe you know the thing I'm talking about. In this case, there's an edge to the meeting. Gage is not your typical john and Angel is innocent, yes, not an escort, no, but she is vulnerable nonetheless. Even through her vulnerability, though, she sees how Gage is also damaged and she wants to help him, something that just bolsters the claim of her innocence. They are perfect for each other because they make the other stronger by sharing those vulnerabilities and damages.
A great little Christmas gift from Skye Warren. Not nearly as dark as some of her other books, this story, however, does have its dark elements about a down and out girl, just released from prison, who takes a temporary job for a reclusive billionaire who fears he might turn into the sexual monster his father was and therefore avoids any kind of a loving relationship. A really good read.
Hottttttttttt. I need a spray bottle of Evian and a fan. Maybe some smelling salts. This was too steamy for me with my morning coffee. Should've saved this for evening, a truffle, and my glass of pinot noir.
Bazaar, baffled, shocked that's the feelings I'm left with finishing this "Christmas story." I'm struggling to review this in a correct manner... Lies, deciect, hints of rape and pain. No connection with the characters except disgust! Not a Christmas read or one I'd recommend!
If you are looking for a Christmas story with a difference then definitely pick this up, there are some steamy sex scenes and you can fly through it in one sitting. Also I think it is still free on the Itunes store so what have you got to lose? It's free, its short and it has some steamy sex scenes! A perfect Christmas read for those of you who have had enough of your typical romance stories.
Work place, short and spicy. This was a case of mistaken identities and I loved it. Add this to your list if you’re looking for a short and spicy novella/short story to up your YE page counts
This was a hot and sexy quick read. Angel has just gotten out of prison after serving a two year sentence for being the naive girlfriend of a drug dealer. Alone, scared and broke, she goes to New York. After lying about having a criminal record, she finally finds a job through a temp agency. She's going to be working for billionaire and tough businessman Gage Thompson while his secretary is out.
Gage is pleasantly surprised when he enters his office and finds a hot woman leaning over his desk. Thinking she's someone he hired to take care of certain needs, he approaches her. He's embarrassed and horrified when he discovers she's his secretary's temp.
Angel sees that Gage is hurting. He thinks he's a bad person, but she sees his kindness. Gage can't get Angel out of his head. It's obvious to him that she's been taught to think badly of herself. He sees more. These two have the opportunity to heal the other. They were raised from completely opposite sides of society, but it doesn't matter.
WOW. I loved Gage's character and felt his anguish. He's really a good guy underneath the bad exterior. Poor Angel. Her dad was a jerk. It's about time she found someone who saw her for who she was. Very sweet, sexy little story.
I thought this story was just ok. I know it was just a novella but it seemed pretty rushed and there was a lot of random bits of information thrown in here and there which sort of gave it a messy feel. I couldn’t connect with the heroine, I don’t care if she needed the job or was afraid he’d find out she lied, she should have had a little more self-respect than to let him get away with what happened the first time they met. And I got a little tired of her whining over how “stupid” she was, Gage may have disagreed with her, but I was beginning to think she had a point. Plus I didn’t love the fact that she was so young, she was barely legal and had been behind bars for part of her teen years, I would have thought that alone would have made Gage steer clear of her. I liked Gage, and felt bad for the demons he dealt with, but I didn’t really see why he was so attracted to Angel. There were a few sweet moments and the writing was decent but I found myself rolling my eyes or confused most of the time.
