The Ghost Dance

Rate this book

She looked like an ordinary Indian girl. But within her she carried a burden of evil, a force that yearned to rend and destroy. And she had travelled 3000 miles, crossing plains, seas and mountains, to bring that force to Arachne.

Arachne - the obscene occult power that had seized Dan Brady's wife and children and still held them in its evil clutches. Its strength was growing, its tentacles reaching out to trap and enslave the innocent and the unwary.

And now, in a bleak mountain village, Dan Brady, the Night Hunter, prepared to confront a horror that could finally destroy him and all he held dear.

A grim and dark fantasy-horror series from the pen of Robert Holdstock, one of my favourite authors of the 1980s. Dan Brady's family have been stolen from him and he spends six books searching for them. I've only read a few of these books and they have a weight, a gravitas to them that you rarely find in this "sort" of book. They aren't brilliant but they have a genuine literary depth to them that rises them above their competitors. They also feel like they are part of a real history that lies just a blink away from our own.

Third novel in the "Night Hunter" series.
Not as shocking as the first couple, though parts are still unsettling....
