Vanguard continues. Prodos’s competition is ranking up. Major Lucius Edwards is a year behind. Without victory, Earth’s preparation will be severely lacking. War is coming. Can skill compete with overwhelming force…
Two more major competitions fill this book. Awesome battles with weapons and psi. I don't think I can enthuse enough about the series and consider it a must read in LitRPG. I like the audiobooks as well.
Prodos is involved in a competition with all the other guilds in the US. The commander of the winning guild will command Earth's defense against the aliens. Since Victoria has more information about what is actually necessary to fight them, it's crucial that Prodos win the competition. And they don't have the raw power of guilds that have been training for much longer.
This book isn't really driven by character development. It's almost entirely driven by plot and action. And both are done very well indeed. The choices of the characters are sensible and important, the pacing is tight, the stakes are high, and the costs paid by the heroes are appropriate to the challenges.
There was almost a three year wait for this book after the book four was published. I hope the next book comes more quickly. Both the book and the series are highly recommended for any fan of progression fantasy.
However, this book was another transition piece with little plot or character development. Too much tell and not enough show.
I loved the first book of this series. Sad to find that the following books cannot uphold and develop beyond the potential of the first couple of books.
Note to Self: If another book for the series is released & on KU, read ebook before buying book & audio.
I enjoyed all 5 books after starting this series recently and I just read straight through. Now I'm all caught up and stuck waiting patiently for the next one. I liked this last as it showed the gradual improvement of the MC in a way that was easy to understand. I appreciated that the secondary characters had depth to them. I'm ready for the next book already.
This has generally been a good series with considered progress. This latest instalment has an extremely simple plot coupled with none of the progress shown in previous books. The last third of the book is a blow by blow retelling of a capture the flag fight.
I found it hard to put the book down, constant action with Lucius trying every trick in the book to make up for still only being E grade when so many others have reached D.
Ok, all the individual story arcs and characters have come full circle and tied together. The relationship is sound and past the cringe it was. MC continues to grow. Looking forward to the next…but now I’m caught up so wait it is.
This was a great book, fun development, growth, training of his flight ability, character interactions, etc. I'm stoked for book 6 with Nexus and Chewme!
