Candace Brown grew up believing in fairy tales that promised her a Prince Charming, a knight in shining armor, and a happily-ever-after ending. But at twenty-seven, with two failed relationships and a heart broken into pieces, the facts of life have opened her eyes to the truth: not everyone gets a happy ending—sometimes, all you get is “the end.”
Brice Coleman has never been in love, and he’s never been anyone’s knight in shining anything. Since entering the battle between the sexes at puberty, he has long enjoyed the spoils of war, one female conquest at a time. And then, a chance encounter engineered by fate changes his life in the blink of an eye, and brings him face to face with his destiny. A beautiful, emotionally fragile woman steals his heart.
With every intention to become a permanent fixture in Candace’s life, Brice is determined to protect the woman he loves—and heal her broken heart.
With a sweet tooth for pastries, a soft heart for animals and an imagination that rivals Dorothy's OZ and Alice’s Wonderland (albeit on the steamier side of fantasy) Lotchie Burton writes spicy Contemporary Romance and Romantic Suspense. An avid reader and hopelessly hooked on happily-ever-after’s, Lotchie writes suspenseful tales where sparks fly, and fires ignite. Strong plots with diverse characters, her stories are filled with feisty heroines and the hard edged, protective, no-nonsense men determined to love them. A New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author wannabe, her name isn’t synonymous with any bestseller’s lists—yet. But she’s working on it.
I have simply fallen in love with this author. I discovered this week that I had brought first two books but had not read them. After reading book One I immediately went on to book 2 (which is this one) and then lucky for me book 3 came out 3 days ago. I read all 3 books back to back.
The 3 stories are standalone but each book stars a character from the previous story. All BW/WM stories.
What I love about this author is all her leading ladies are strong and sassy and all her leading men are alpha males, who love, cherish and protect their women. They are not afraid to be strong and take charge but they love their women and are not afraid to show that.
I am so in love with all her characters. I would like to see them dialogue more about their issues and how they intend to overcome them but I love how Ms Burton tells her stories. There is drama but the drama is filled with LOVE which is what I love the most. The angst is not the horrible kind.
This is Candace and Brice's story. I love the intensity of this story Brice has never been in love before but he knows he loves Candace. Candace has been hurt before and she does not want to be in a committed relationship. To make things worse Candace has a stalker in her life. This adds more drama to the story. My heart goes out to Brice in this story as he does everything in his power to convince Candace to once more take a risk on love. Candace is so resolute in not wanting this kind of love that it feels like she is throwing Brice's love back in his face.
This was a really great read. I really enjoyed it and could feel the connection between the couple and the struggle they were experiencing.
I would definitely recommend all 3 stories by this author. Loved it.
This story kind of picks up where Prelude to Seduction left off. David and Sarona are still going strong and we are reintroduced to Brice and we meet Candace, a friend of Sarona. Brice soon falls hard for Candace but she is hampered by bad past relationships and an active crazy stalker. Candace was a bit of a mess and I did not like her as much as I did Brice. The book was good and I like the author’s style but wished Candace had not been so annoying. Brice deserved better.😂
The only reason why I gave this a three and a half star was because of Brice. I love him plus the book was well written. I really hated Candace throughout the story until the end when she barely managed to redeem herself
I thoroughly loved this. Nash was certifiable. Which he proved on several occasions. Brice and Candace worked. This had drama and steam. This is my first read by this author, but definitely not my last.
Vicarious thrills abound in this sensual, suspenseful IR extraordinaire. Touches all my love at first sight, wish I was that pretty and accomplished, love me some him, rescue me from my ruin plus a deranged madman, safe in his arms buttons and levers. Whew!
Nothing's Sweeter than Candy was a good read. Suffice it to say, many times a lady whose free with her body would normally be called a whore, and a man would be a player. So why are the stereotypes so different? In this story, Candace loved them and left them just like a man is so deftly described in countless romance novels. Her desires to have a fling and move on was her MO.. Once she decided she no longer wanted her current bed buddy, he wasn't having it, and set out to stalk her. Nash was crazy, and refused to be dumped. He would prove to be a problem for Candy. In the meanwhile, Candy met Brice and found a real man with one agenda, to love her unconditionally. Brice had always been a lady's man, so when he was bowled over by Candy, it caught even him by surprise. Brice was ready suddenly to give up his playa cards. Lol, Candy resisted Brice until the bitter end. And true love finally bore its way into her heart. A good read.
How many times can you risk a broken heart before you stop risking love altogether? Scarred from not one, but two broken hearts, Candace has given up on the possibility of finding Mr. Right, believing his existence stems from far fetched fairy tales. She’s content to stick to no strings attached relationships, even if it means being treated like dirt – it’s what she’s used to and worse still, she believes she is every bit the ‘Freak’ she’s been labelled by her most recent hookup.
Brice is a man with a plan, live life as a bachelor, enjoying the company of women who don’t expect anything more. When his friend and self-labelled bachelor extraordinaire settles down with a woman, Brice can’t work out why…until he meets a woman that causes those same feelings. From the moment Brice breathes in the same air as Candace, he’s hooked. She pushes his boundaries and buttons in a way he’s never experienced before and for the first time in his life – he falls in love. But what Candace wants ‘friends with benefits’ couldn’t be further away from what Brice finds himself yearning for.
With interesting characters, hot sex and an element of danger I found Sweeter than Candy a great read. I was sucked in from the first chapter and read the whole book over two days – I couldn’t put it down. Admittedly, I found the beginning a little slow to get going, however I only realized this after the fact, so the early chapters were engaging enough to keep me interested.
Candace is a great leading female, representing the emotionally unavailable of the coupling. Her backbone is to be admired and she stays true to herself – no whimsical changing of one’s mind, which I find often happens in romance books. Likeable, relatable, intelligent, and confident her character is well rounded. Her views on love are completely understandable and highly realistic.
Brice is sweet, protective and knocked for six by the emotions Candace brings out in him. His once love of the single life is replaced by his love of one woman. His character is at times, a little cliché, but his inner thoughts carried me through this well enough to hold my interest. He knows what he wants and he’s determined to get it. He’s sexy, smart and certainly likeable.
The author created two dynamic characters that will keep the readers on their toes. All in all, Sweeter than Candy is a lighthearted and very steamy read that I enjoyed very much.
What would be your perception of being in a committed relationship if you gave your heart to someone twice to be left mending the broken pieces? Take the risk to find out if the third time’s a charm? Or live carefree seeking male companionship with one type…abusers?
Nothing’s Sweeter than Candy tells the story of how past hurts hinders the heroine from being able to recognize her possible Mr. Right. Candace Brown is a computer geek, who enjoys being in control and having structure in her life. But when her rigid routine is shaken by Brice Coleman, she does the next best thing.
Brice Coleman is the co-owner of a security company and devises a plan to get up close and personal with Candace. One thing I love about his character is his forwardness. What he wants is what he gets by all means necessary. Early on you will get a glimpse of his protectiveness and possessiveness, when he has an encounter with Candace’s former sexual playmate.
One scene I enjoyed was when Candace propositioned Brice; it was unexpected especially coming from her. Honestly, I thought he would have been the initiator, which is why I expected him to refuse. As you come to know Brice’s character you will understand there’s a reason behind his every move, which is a good thing.
It’s a shame Candace’s story didn’t end with ‘she had to meet Mr. Wrong to recognize Mr. Right.’ For her it’s more like ‘Candace had to come face to face with a psychopath to realize she’d walked away from her happy ending.’
If you are looking for a story that’s compelling and erotic, Nothing’s Sweeter than Candy by Lotchie Burton is for you.
Candace "Candy" Brown has been burned twice by love, and no longer looks for romance or expects to find a knight in shining armor with fairy tale endings. All she needs is for someone to fulfill her physical needs, which this time may come at a cost. She knows it's a mistake to get mixed up with a handsome, talented, yet twisted madman. But there are some things and some heights of ecstasy a nice guy just can't deliver, according to Candy. This is what she thinks until a chance encounter with Brice Coleman.
Loved it! Candy is so relatable. You can't help but cheer her on as she navigates the pain of her past relationships to finally learn to trust and love again. She's different when it comes to her sexual appetites. This makes her susceptible to abuse when having her physical needs met until Brice comes to her rescue. He had no intensions on becoming her savior. He was captivate by her beauty and just wanted to get to know her. This is until she becomes the target of her past demented lover who would not take no for an answer. Oh, I could say so much about Brice, like, smart, accomplished, sexy, and resourceful, but I will leave this for the reader's discretion.
Romance, suspense, and hot steamy... what else could you ask for besides more, more, more. This was a great short read. I enjoyed getting an update of the main characters, David and Sarona, from "Prelude to a Seduction". I can't wait to see whose story is next.
This was a sweet romance with graphic intimacy and a dash of danger thrown in. I liked the romance between Brice and Candy--an instant attraction though neither wanted a commitment. Brice quickly realized his feelings were beyond anything he'd ever felt and gave himself over to them, recognizing that he wanted to spend his life with Candy. Candy, though, fought a little harder. She had been burned and was determined to protect herself from being hurt again. I thought this resistance on her part (instead of his) was a nice reversal of positions. Burton also did a good job of using the escalating danger posed by Candy's ex to help not only bring Brice and Candy together but to also show her in stark realization how different two men can be and what she could have with her life if she's only willing to take that leap. I felt that the dialogue and transitions were sometimes a bit stilted but the story and the steaminess helped make up for any flaws. I do wish the sex scenes had stayed focused on her and Brice--while I understand that she would have the memories of her past, I don't know that it added to the story for me to see them in graphic detail. Overall, it was a fun, engaging, erotic romance and Candy and Brice were believable in their back-and-forth relationship (from steamy attraction to playful teasing to out-and-out frustration and protectiveness).
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Candace Brown knows what she wants, and it isn’t a relationship. She has good reason--she’s been burned more than once. Brice Coleman isn’t looking for a relationship either. But when they meet, their attraction is instant and sizzling, even though they’re both reluctant to act on it at first. I like that vulnerability they both have, and watching them work through it, especially the heroine, was very satisfying. And so were the love scenes. Lotchie Burton takes the reader along with them as they explore their attraction in some very hot scenes that leave the reader squirming in her seat. Just as things are going smoothly between them, Candace gets cold feet, and worse, she’s being stalked by an ex-lover. I enjoyed the back and forth of Candace and Brice’s evolving relationship as well as the dread of what her stalker would do next. And need I say that the love scenes left me breathless? I love a good, sexy read, and this one fit the bill and then some!
It was nice to see glimpses of the Sarona and David from the previous book in the series. I liked Brice. I loved his frankness. His personality is very similar to mine so I understood what made him tick, his motives, and his attention to detail. Because the hero and I are so similar I found myself frustrated with the main heroine. It took a dramatic event to realize that she was being an absolute idiot, thank goodness. This book is a solid follow up but Ms. Burton. Here's to hoping the last of the trio, Joyce, gets her own happily ever after and that we will get to read it sometime soon.
Sweet and sassy! Candy doesn't believe in relationships. She's had her heart broken too many times. So she deals with roughnecks to protect her heart. And then she meets Brice, a really nice guy! Brice is falling hard for Candy but he's discovered she's in danger from a psycho ex-boyfriend who is now stalking her. Brice needs to decide-should he stay and fight for Candy or should he simply walk away?
The only thing I need is more books like this please. I felt the love when I read the first book and was very happy to finally be able to read another just keep them coming!
This was a great read! You've got stubborn as a mule Candace, love at first site (noooo!!!!) Brice, throw stalker Nash, Dr. Joyce Jeffers and Blaine into the mix and you've got a funny, quirky, sexy (with a little kink)!
"Nothing's Sweeter Than Candy" hit all the right notes for me. The hero and heroine captured my interest immediately. Candace's broken heart and creepy stalker made me sympathize with her. Brice's disinterest in a relationship provided the second barrier to overcome for the couple. And I'd enjoyed "Prelude to a Seduction," Lotchie Burton's first book and was happy to get an update on David and Sarona. All in all, a well-written, hot and sexy love story that's hard to put down. (I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a fair review.)
