Practical Arrangement

Rate this book
Summer Maddox has had horrible luck when it comes to men. The only thing good to come out of it all is her daughter. Even though she feels guilty that her child doesn’t have a father figure in her life, Summer’s learned from her mistakes and won’t be repeating them

After three tours in Afghanistan, Travis Southerland has finally come home. His body is healing, but his heart still aches for his friends who died in combat. He doesn’t know if he’ll ever be whole, and the last thing he wants is to have someone depending on him for anything ever again.

After family events keep throwing them together, Travis and Summer can’t deny the spark between them. Neither of them are interested in a relationship, but a practical arrangement might solve both of their problems and get their families off their backs. And just because they aren’t looking for love doesn’t mean it won’t find them – if either of them is willing to take a chance.

3 1/2 Stars. Like the first and second book, this was a nice sweet quick read, but I can’t help but want more, this had the potential to be a truly great read so many issues that were just sort of glossed over and fixed quick, but with a bit more time and depth it could have been just awesome. It wasn’t bad tough just lacked time and detail.

And one other thing that has really really bugged me, Summers age, in the first book of the series I am sure I read that she was 1 year younger than Autumn, and Autumn was 27 so that would make Summer 26, In this book she was 24!! I know it’s not a huge deal but these types of inconsistencies annoy me.

A sweet story about a stubborn man, Travis, and Summer, his sister-in-law. Travis has returned home from Afghanistan, seriously wounded and in mental pain because all his colleagues were killed in the accident that he blames himself for. Summer is a young woman with a beautiful young daughter, Abby. Summer was still in school when she got pregnant, and the father denied it and left. Since then Summer has been trying hard to create a proper family for Abby, something she had not had herself; but she had made poor choices of men and her life had been difficult. At a family gathering Travis bonds with Abby when she makes him sit on the floor and play with Lego with her.
He is attracted to Summer, but regards himself as a broken man who cannot get involved in romance ever again.

Summer and Abbey are living with her sister Autumn and her husband Jude, and feels uncomfortable imposing on their new married life. One evening Travis calls round to see Jude; since the accident he has been experiencing dreadful nightmares and is hoping that Jude, a doctor, can prescribe something to help him sleep. Jude and Autumn have gone out for the evening, and decide to spend the night in Jude's old house. Summer goes into the kitchen to make coffee for Travis, but when she comes back into the sitting room he is sound asleep on the sofa. She doesn't like to wake him so she makes him comfortable, covers him with a blanket and leaves him to sleep. When he wakes the next morning it is to the realisation that he slept through the night without nightmares, and he thinks it was Summer's presence that made it happen.

That causes a chain reaction, and a lot of heartache because neither of them can tell the other how they really feel. There is danger for Summer too, when someone with evil intent from her past comes calling, frustratingly just when Travis has realised he must tell Summer how he really feels. He is a man of action, he is not going to leave Summer in danger while there is breath in his body.

There is a seesaw of emotions in this story, you end up loving the characters, especially Abby, and want it to work out well for them. I see it as good writing when you can feel personally involved with the characters! Well worth reading.

This is my second favorite story in the series- Candy and Blake’s story being my favorite.

I think the fact that Travis and Summer married for practical reasons intrigued me. I wanted to see how this modern marriage of convenience would unfold.

I would have liked to see his PTSD explored more. I also wish the villain had been fleshed out more. Oh, I knew he was coming for Summer, but the way he just appeared at the end of the book and the speed at which the attempted kidnapping was resolved was anticlimactic. I needed a little more drama and suspense with that subplot.

Marriage of convenience

Summer has had a track record of making bad decisions. Travis is a war hero who's home mending from a broken body and mind. Neither trusts their own judgement. The one thing they have is a great love for Abby, Summer's daughter. Travis proposes a marriage of convenience, a practical arrangement. Summer knows that Travis is a good man and will take care of Abby but can she trust him ? I liked this book but it felt slow and rushed at the same time. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

Nice book

I liked the gradual progression in the story of Summer and Travis. I would have liked the story to go on a little bit more, it felt like the story was too short and finished too quick. The climax was an awesome surprise but could have lead on a little bit more as it was short. However, I love this series and loved this book.
I would recommend it to anyone who like romance genre.

This is a new favourite author for me. I loved every word of this particular installment of the Southerlands's story. Travis and Summer deserve their HEA and I'm so very pleased that these characters got their HEA as a couple. The plot rolled out in a comfortable narrative that was fulfilling to the reader.

The premise of this was so dumb. Two people who don't want to be in a relationship or fall in love decide to get married. What on earth? The explanation is even worse. Summer wants a father for her daughter, even though she openly admits that the men in the Southerland have more than filled that void. Travis wants his mom off his back and thinks that by getting married, she won't have an excuse to meddle in his love life. Never mind that he openly admits to his parents that the only reason they got married was for convenience and not love. And he thinks that's going to make things better?!

This book was very sweet. The anguish between the characters felt real, I laughed with them and cried with them. This is a stand alone but the series is wonderful. On to the next...

REVIEW: 3.75 stars---PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT is the third installment in Evelyn Adams’s contemporary, adult THE SOUTHERLANDS romance series focusing on the Southerland family. This is Afghanistan war veteran Travis Southerland, and single mother Summer Maddox’s story line. PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. The reader is first introduced to Summer in book one-Feels Like Home-Summer is Autumn’s younger sister.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Summer and Travis) PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT follows the ‘friends with benefit’ arrangement between single mother Summer Maddox and former US soldier Travis Southerland. Travis suffers nightmares and PTSD following the death of his entire unit in the Middle East but finds he is able to sleep without the nightmares and cold sweats when in the company of Summer Maddox. While never professing to love Summer, Travis makes her a deal-marriage, a father to her daughter Abby, and all the benefits of husband and wife-but not once does he offer romance and love. What ensues is the building relationship between our leading couple wherein Summer begins to fall in love, and Travis begins to pull away.

All of the previous story line characters play secondary and supporting roles including Travis’s large extended family. The world building continues to focus on family, friendships as well as one man’s inability to let go of the past.

PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT is a quick read; a sweet romance between two people who fell in love over a common bond-a young child whose heart was big enough to bring everyone together. The premise is entertaining and engaging but I felt that the author missed out by not expanding more on Travis and Summer as individuals and together-as they say the’ story is in the details’; the ending felt like a rush to the finish. What little external conflict presented was over in a matter of a few sentences. The romance is a slow build to a happily ever after.

If you are a fan of family, friendships, broken heroes and happily ever afters, pick up a copy of PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT to enjoy.

Travis Southerland is a decorated war veteran who has come home broken both physically and mentally. He feels responsible for what happened to his team and he’s struggle to recover physically from the injuries that he sustained.

Summer is a single mom who’s made a long string of bad relationship decisions. She’s finally sworn off men and began to build a life for herself and her daughter Abby. Travis and Summer’s lives just keep running across each other because Travis’s brother is married to Summer’s sister. But that’s just the start, these two are almost like star crossed lovers in how their haunted pasts are influencing their current lives. And then how their current lives helping each other to find a peace to create a happy future.

As a way to go forward, they create an arrangement. One that will create a family for Abby, give Travis’s family some comfort, and give Summer the security of a man in the house for protection. The plan in put into action, marriage without love, married friends with benefits but just as quickly as the married with benefits happen, feelings start to get in the way.

Can the two of them find their way to true love and happiness or will Summer’s past come back to destroy it all?

I really enjoyed this book, it’s the third book in the series, and although I have read book 1, I have not read book 2. My recommendations would be to read book 1 first but I think you could read this one first and be okay. There’s a lot of back story from book 1 that would be helpful but I think there’s probably enough overview in book 3 that you could read it as a standalone.

Interesting to say that this is something I never thought I would like, but it actually grabbed my attention and I found it to be shockingly great, something far from what I originally would read.

Well lets get started, what happens when you have a solo mum that is too afraid to love again, how do you explain to your little girl that she will not be calling anyone daddy! Then there's the soldier who cannot get over his tour of duty in Iraq also the loss of men he had suffered, a soldier who blames himself for their deaths.

Both Summer and Travis know that they are only in this practical arrangement as husband and wife, so that there will be no more matchmaking from Travis's mother and Summer is only doing this so that her daughter can have a father. The only ones who don't agree is his family and her sister, they tell them that it only makes things more complicated and that they should of married for love.

Little did they know that things could change either quickly or slowly, so will they ever find love or will they just forgo that and continue to live in this practical marriage? This is a must read even though I can be honest about it this is the only one I have ever read about the Southerlands, but be assured I will read the rest, this grabbed my interest and now I have to purchase the rest in order to satisfy myself. For those who have read the Southerlands then you know how great the books are and I can guarantee that for those who have not will find themselves absorbed in their story.

This was my favorite of the series so far. I was drawn to Travis and Summer from the beginning. Their independent stories made their relationship believable.

Summer is resilient and strong. She has raised her daughter Abby all by herself and done a wonderful job even with a few major bumps in the road. She has sworn to never love again and for Abby's sake she can't trust her choices in men. She is hoping for a bright future for her and Abby, but she has no idea that Travis is about to change her world.

Travis is a war hero that has recently come home. He has dreams that keep him up at night and he relives the same dream over and over, night after night. His family is concerned about him and his Mother keeps insisting on setting him up on dates. He has sworn to never let love in his heart again. He ends up at Summer's house one evening looking for his brother, Jude. That one night changes everything and Travis realizes it, but can he face it?

These two people learn to rely on each other and during that journey, love sneaks in. The moment they realize it, it is beautiful. Abby and Travis have a beautiful relationship too. My heart just melted at how sweet he was with her and how willingly she trusted him. There were sections that were rushed, but overall this was a very sweet story with characters you can't help but fall in love with. Autumn and Jude made some appearances too. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Evelyn Adams “Practical Arrangement” is the third book in the Southerland Series. In “Feels Like Love” we first hear about Bailey’s brother, Travis, who is in Afghanistan in the military.

Summer Maddox got pregnant when she was 16 and keeps ending up with the wrong men. She is a loving mother who only wants her daughter to have what she did not have while growing up….a happy home with a father.

Travis Southerland was a Marine fighting in Afghanistan until his unit came in contact IED that killed his team and sent him home. He is not being able sleep because he is still battling nightmares and never wanting to be responsible for anyone else.

When Travis and Summer are paired up at their siblings wedding, no matter how he tries to avoid her fate keeps bring these two together. Sparks start between these two which leads to the arrangement being made by getting married.

Summer gets a father for Abby’s by marrying Travis but without love….only thing is she cannot help but fall in love him but will it be enough to breakdown Travis’ walls around his heart.

Loved this book and you will need to read to see if Travis is able to open his heart to Summer and if Abby gets her father and happy family.

Evelyn Adams is a great writer , I 've already read some of her awesome books but this is my first read in The Southerlands series that I picked up as an ARC for an honest review at an other author's request .
I enjoyed Practical Arrangement a lot . It's an easy and quick read and the pages flew by . The main characters Travis and Summer were both complex but very likeable and Summer's little daughter Abby was adorable through the whole story .
Travis comes back injured from war where he was the only one who survived . He feels responsible for the lost of his friends who all died in Afghanistan and doesn 't believe in love anymore . He meets Summer and her adorable daughter Abby , at his brothers wedding with Summer's sister Autumn. Summer went through a lot herself and learning from her mistakes she won 't repeating them again so all that counts is her little daughter Abby , nothing else .
I won 't give away the whole story , but this well written book is so sweet , emotional and heartwarming that it's worth to read . You 'll see ; at the end this Practical Arrangement for both to get married with benefits and without love ends as a HEA .
I will certainly read more books in this series because I got totally into this amazing Southerland family .

Both Travis and Summer were broken. Together, they were able to find something in each other to weld their broken parts together. The one person they were both able to love was Abby, Summer's daughter. Abby will bring a smile and possibly a few episodes of watery eyes.

Travis and Summer's marriage of convenience was a farce from the very beginning. You will see why when you read this. The best part was Travis' love for Abby and her love for him.

This was a very quick read that had me smiling, laughing, and tearing up. The Southerland series portrays a very strong sense of family and responsibilities. Book 3 did not fail in this regard. I only wish that there had been more written about Travis and Summer after they were married, other than Travis running away to keep from getting closer to her.

I received this book as a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENT is the third book in Evelyn Adams's "The Southerland Series".
Travis Southerland is a wounded warrior who has come back home to heal. Not only does Travis have physical injuries but he is also dealing with the loss of his men. Summer Maddox has a sister who is married to Jade So9utherland, the oldest of the Southerland men, and is often included in the family activities. Summer does not have a good experience with men and doesn't know if she is ready for a relationship. Stay tuned to see how the two of them heal each other.
I highly recommend the entire Southerland series. This is a stand-alone novel; however, it helps to read the books in order as the family members are introduced.

I loved Travis and Summer's story. Reading about members of the Southerland family is always a sweet and sexy ride.

Ms. Adams hits her mark with Travis. He is mysterious, super hot, and one of the good guys. Also, Summer isn't a damsel in distress even though her life has lead her down weathered and rough roads.

Make an arrangement with yourself to read Practical Arrangement. You won't regret it!

Easy to get into. lovable characters. No love or even lust to begin with. There romance was build gradually has they got to know each other, so when the sparks started flying it made sense, and you were rooting for them. Steamy sex scenes, no kink, strong supporting cast. Thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommend. Especially if you love to see people that have been hurt.. finally get a rewarding happy ending. I was given this story for a honest review.

Practical Arrangement is a really great story with likable characters and a sweet and sexy romance between two people who have sworn off love. I couldn't put the book down because I couldn't wait to see what would happen next in Travis and Summer's relationship. FYI, the love scenes are pretty hot, too. I can't wait to read the other books in this series.

Another winner for Ms. Adams. I really liked Travis, Summer and especially Abby. All three, really, have had some difficult and even violent history. Summer has come a long way to accepting and working at restoring peace in her life and a safe nurturing environment for Abby. Travis is still getting there. It is after all not a easy or comfortable process. With the help of Abby, his family and Summer, he might just find what he didn't know he needed or even wanted.

Really enjoyed reading this book. Loved little Abby. She was so happy to have a daddy and that daddy being Travis. Travis had a lot to over come from his time in Afghanistan. Knew his arrangement with Summer would lead to more, Travis just didn't believe in himself.

Più bello del precedente, questo sequel, forse perché i protagonisti soffrono di problematiche di vita "vera" e le loro disavventure rendono il tutto molto più meritevole della partecipazione empatica del lettore. Romance da prendere in considerazione.

Loved it

Once again Evelyn did a fantastic job. What that thought would be a great arrangement for the two of them helped them to find love and move on from the past that troubled them and help to h e t through anything. Can't beat a love like that. Loved it.
