Simply Glamorous: Make-up Transoformations to Make You Look and Feel Fabulous

Rate this book
Leading celebrity makeup artist Gary Cockerill is best known for his glamorous and sexy makeup style. Here, in his first makeup book, Gary shares his professional expertise to demonstrate how makeup can make every woman look radiant and feel confident in her appearance, whatever her age, shape, or color.

In Glamorous Transformations, Gary debunks the "rules," proving that with a little knowledge and skill, everyone can use makeup to enhance, disguise, and transform. With his friendly, down-to-earth approach, he desmystifies makeup and reveals the best products and application techniques to make anyone red-carpet ready.

He begins by showing the power of makeup in creating an illusion, whether it's to enhance the features you like or to draw the eye away from those you don't. In the Famous Faces chapter, he showcases some of the best-known celebrities he has worked with and talks us through the makeup looks he's created for them, providing fascinating insight into life as a celebrity makeup artist.

Gary then takes us step-by-step through a series of breathtaking makeovers on a range of "real" women of all ages, demonstrating the transformative power of makeup and explaining how to create a look to suit any face shape, features, color, or age. Glamorous Transformations is packed with useful and practical tips by one of the industry's leading experts.

I won this Free book through Goodreads-First Reads. Thank you Goodreads for picking my name to win this very informative book. A wonderful tutorial book for all women, all ages and all races. The author demonstrates on his family and other models; making it easy to see the true results. My favorite chapter was on contouring makeup to make the less perfect face, more true. The one color he emphasized was peach- apricot. The last page gives all the names of the products he used on the models and what he recommends. I LOVED THIS BOOK.

This is an absolutely stunning book. Gary Cockerill is a very talented make up artist and he generously divulges the tricks of the trade. He offers a variety of transformations and in descriptive passages, reveals how to achieve them. His instructions are easy to follow; the book is broken into sections regarding face, eyes, lips, and brows, how to maintain, highlight, and contour. I won this in a Goodreads giveaway and it is truly a gift. Every woman can certainly benefit from this book.

- Foundation: tinted moisturizer shows she has a great skin to begin with; a person with heavy foundation can be easily told as her facial skin wouldn't have a consistent look (will even look matalic or caky)

- Compare her face color to her neck or arm is a great way to see if she is picking the color correct foundation

- The "natural look" is not natural - it requires the make up artists to match the skin tune of the person (pinch the cheek to see the color of the person) and can easily be told through he consistency of the skin upon closeup

- The irony of makeup is that the more one tries to hide something, the more makeup one would apply to that area: to those who know, it doesn't hide the blemish, rather it highlights the blemish as well as the insecurities behind it

I won this book from a Goodreads Giveaway. I signed up "on a whim" but now that I have it, I am so glad I was so silly at the time thinking I knew so much about makeup. I don't know a thing about makeup before reading this, the "on a whim" was the best thing I did! This book is filled with tips on everything from proper foundation for each face type, correct and conceal tips, contour, powder and blush techniques, bronzers, eye shapes, eyeliner styles and how to apply, perfect lip stick applications and colors, and so much more. My favorite part in the book, and it is a huge chunk of the book, it the many step by step how to apply the makeup to get certain looks! I am so thankful for this book! THANK YOU!!! It is a must buy for anyone looking to improve on their looks. If I had know what was in this, I would have already bought it. It has changed how I apply my makeup and how I look for the better. LOL

I received a copy of this book through goodreads giveaways.

The book provides in-depth descriptions of good makeup concepts.

If you don't know much about makeup and really want to learn in-depth, or you know, but want reasons and more detail this is for you. Unfortunately, I don't think it was for me. I found it very wordy and I lost interest pretty quickly. I just wanted to be told what to do, not the intricacies of every little thing. I definitely learned a lot, but I couldn't focus enough to learn everything the book probably has to offer.

Received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

Love this book. I am completely terrified of doing my own make up. I'm lucky if I can get base on without having smears and messes and I can't even deal with eyeliner. This book, while not ending my fear has at least had me experimenting to deal with it. His instructions are easy to follow and I'm slowing getting better!

I won this book on Goodreads. The photographs are beautiful and the step by step instructions are very clear (although for *some* of us, applying these techniques are easier said than done). This would be a great book for Make Up Enthusiasts.
