This is not a standalone as it is connected to a story arc that began in the previous book, Best Laid Plans.
At the end of the last book, we got disgraced DEA Agent Nicole Rollins’ point of view, which was chilling as it foretold what was going to happen in this one. She said it would be big and, unfortunately, she didn’t exaggerate. Her escape from jail was spectacular and awful, setting the tone and pace for the attempts to not only recapture her but to determine the sources of the leaks within the DEA and the FBI.
I will not share details as I appreciated going into the story without them. There’s a lot going on and it was a perilous path to navigate because the leaks had everyone giving each other the side eye. Trusting the wrong person could cost you your life. The level of tension was the highest and the suspense surrounding Nicole was nerve wracking. She’s one of the most devious characters I’ve seen in awhile and I got itchy waiting for the teams to bring her down. Lucy is fortunately joined by FBI profiler Hans Vigo and she needed him desperately as suspicions about her heightened.
I continue to listen to this series because the narrators deliver such great performances, adding to the excitement and tension. There are a lot of characters in this story and I had no issues distinguishing them. I had high expectations after the epilogue in the last book and they were met or exceeded. I loved the climax and am anxious to learn how the teams move forward following all this devastation. It was an epic story.

Nicole Rollins, the corrupt DEA agent is now in jail and waiting for her trial in corruption, murder and her part in working as a double agent.
After a daring and violent escape whilst being transport from prison to court, she’s now on the most wanted list and the largest manhunt for her recapture.
Whilst everyone believes she’s fled the country, Lucy Kincaid suspects that may not be the case….she believes Nicole has a more sinister plan and is hiding out until she has taken her revenge on Lucy and the DEA.
A chilling cat and mouse chase begins as Lucy and the FBI, working with the DEA agents try to get into Nicole’s psyche and find her before more people are murdered.
Nicole Rollins is the most brilliant and cunning villain ever. The games she plays and how she taunts the authorities is clever and scary. Using her deadly and immoral partners, they take out anyone who stands in their way. Amoral sociopaths with no regard to anything but their goals, the group is dangerous and crafty. And Nicole’s family…..the most evil and dysfunctional one of all time.
We finally discover Tobias’s identity…wow, was that a total and unexpected surprise.
I loved the family dynamics in this book. Lucy and Sean are now engaged and Lucy finally finds peace in her life. Kane Rogan plays a huge part in the plot as he travels to Mexico to help with Nicole’s case. We also see him and Siobhan together again, after her rescue. I can’t wait for their book. Some of Lucy’s family make an appearance, which I enjoyed.
A compelling and complex story that you can’t stop reading. It keeps you on the edge of your seat from the 1st to the last page. The ending has a cliffhanger and I am most looking forward to the next chapter…..
The epilogue was really nice and sweet. I love Lucy and Sean together. They just fit in so well with each other and who knows….we may get to see their wedding day soon.
This is a brilliant series and should be read in order. I have read all the books so far and I am eagerly waiting for the next book.

This book was non-stop action from the first scene to the end. It was a great suspense and the baddies were really, really bad. They talk a big game and fortunately the good guys were able to foil their evil plot. Since the plot resumes right after the last book ends, I'm glad to report that this books puts an end to that plot, except for one baddie who is heading for a long time in prison, we hope.
Nicole Rollins was a DEA agent gone bad. She sold her soul to a drug cartel headed by the mysterious Tobias. Nicole knows the system inside out and knows exactly what to expect when she is transported. Having carefully planned her escape, her team leaves several dead in their wake. Now, the question is what is she going to do next. Several in the FBI think she will run for the border, but Lucy thinks she has something else in mind and Lucy is right.
Lucy has come up with an interesting theory about Nicole: She is the brains behind the cartel, not Tobias and she wants her money back. When other agents turn up missing or dead it looks like Nicole wants her revenge too and Lucy, Sean and Kane are on the top of her list. I skipped most of the story. There was waaaaaaaaaaay too much evil bad guy on page. I get it, they're evil and have no conscience, will kill their own grandma if it got them something. I HATE bad guy on page dialogue ad nauseam. I've read this before so I just skipped to the end to see how it went. Good guys won, obviously! And some of the bad guys died, some caught, and at least one got away.
I do want to keep going with the series, but I guess there is a reason I didn't keep up with the newer books. 3ish stars. Narration was great, no complaints there.

This is the second book that I've read by this author and it will also be my last. I've come to the conclusion that this type of book is not my thing. (I guess we can't love everything.) I know the author has a large fan club, but those people are not my people.
Normally this would get 2 stars because the mystery was something I wanted to see to the end, but oh, the everything else was irritating. And not just a little. So 1 star.

3.5. Audiobook. The narrator does a good job, which is one the reasons I was able to stick with the series. This series is just super repetitive, but what can I say I’m invested.

Well this book appears to have wrapped up the story arc started several books prior. I enjoyed this book for the most part, but my one complaint is I feel there was too much repetition and re-explaining of previous events leading up to this wrap up of the storyline. It's this reason my attention wandered several times in the book and why I knocked off half a star. That being said, I still feel the tension was kept up throughout the book, and I honestly wasn't sure how things were going to turn out for some of the characters.
I don't want to give away any spoilers of things that happen in this book, so I'll just say I'm looking forward to what comes next for all the people in Lucy and Sean's world.

Former FBI agent Nicole Rollins has escaped from custody and kills five officers in the process. Nicole is a smart person who kills without remorse and Lucy’s skills and knowledge will help track her down. This man hunt puts Lucy in the crosshairs of a dangerous group of people. It also puts many of Lucy’s co-workers and loved one in danger.
The hunt for Nicole was intense. Her family is truly messed up and finding out how everyone was related proved that. It takes a truly devious person to do what Nicole did.
Lucy still has some learning to do, but she does a great job helping track down Nicole. I think the more she proves herself the more people will actually listen to her. It wouldn’t hurt for Lucy to have a bit more confidence in her abilities. Sean is helping her realize this, but it’s going to take time.
Sean once again gets involved in this case and it puts his life in danger. I think a bit more than in the last book. His computer skills are superior to many and he’s smart when it comes to covert operations. Kane gets in a bit of hot water as well. I think we may see a new Rogan romance in the future and possibly see Kane in the states more.
Overall the story was great and the suspense intense. I’m hoping at some point to read one without Sean getting involved. I’d like to see Lucy do it all on her own and possibly gain the confidence she so desperately needs.

Almost everyone and everything is suspect now that rogue DEA agent Nicole Rollins has broken out of prison, taking her knowledge of procedures, staff and cases with her. Now a manhunt is on... but who's hunting whom? And do the FBI know enough to find Nicole before she disappears for good?
It was much stronger than the last RCK installment I read (which seems to be book 7), and kept driving forward. I only put it down for essentials like work.

Another excellent installment with Lucy Kincaid. Exciting, gripping. I love Lucy. I did, at one point, want to slap the crap out of Sean, but I kept reading and learned he wasn't doing something tragically stupid after all. The villains are particularly vile - especially the teenage girl sociopath. :shudder: She makes my skin crawl. Oh, and I loved having Kane Rogan as a central player in this one. I can't wait to see what Ms. Brennan has in store for us next.

Interesting tale of betrayal, drug lords and the usual cast of dogged Rogans and Kincaids. I think I need a break from the DEA, FBI, SAP etc. Brennan is beginning to give her books a Slaughter feel it gets old fast and before you know it, you stop caring about any of the main players.

This book seemed to be a continuation of the last book. It was interesting how family played into this one, both on the bad guys side and with Lucy and Sean. The end realizations with Lucy and Sean were great, loved how they opening their house for the family invasion.

This instalment follows directly from the previous book Best Laid Plans and can't really be read stand-alone.
The dead count is enormous, for both the good and the bad guys. And talk about a psychopathic and dysfunctional family! When people are both clever and sociopathic, they make the most dangerous type of criminals. Out of all the bad guys, though, I found Elise the most chilling, given her young age and how manipulative and unconscionable she was.
This has been another thrilling roller-coaster ride with some heartstopping action. A great addition to the series.

This was the twenty seventh book I've read by Allison Brennan, so I guess you could say I'm a huge fan. This particular series is absolutely my favorite. Just as a note, this is definitely not a standalone. It is book ten in the series, and each book builds on the previous one. Actually, in my opinion, you get the best reading experience by first reading the Evil trilogy and then the FBI trilogy. These two series help familiarize you with the Kincaid and Rogan families. They also take you through everything that happens to Lucy Kincaid, the events that shape who she is. Having this background information just makes the Lucy series ten times better.
This story has Lucy and Sean tracking prison escapee Nicole Rollins, a murderer they helped apprehend in the previous book. Lucy and Sean are FINALLY engaged ( yes, I've been waiting for that for a long time), but there is no time to celebrate. DEA and FBI agents are being murdered, and all hands are on deck working around the clock to recapture Rollins. Sean and Lucy are pulled in different directions, but try to connect as much as possible. Unfortunately, things only get worse when Kane, Sean's brother, disappears in Mexico. Sean knows he has to go find Kane, but hates to leave knowing Lucy is likely a target for Rollin's violence. He enlists the help of a trusted colleague to watch over Lucy and sets out for Mexico.

First, I have to admit that I haven't read any of the previous books in this series. And yes, I was aware that this is the tenth book. So I knew nothing about the characters, their past and the plot of the previous books.
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed. I didn't feel the connection with the main characters. Maybe it's because I haven't read the previous books but still... I found Lucy quite boring despite her emotional problems. And I can't decide if Sean should be seen as a bad boy or as a nice guy.
Part of the problem is that the story follows umpteen different people, some of them completely indistinct to me. We follow the good guys, we follow the bad guys, we follow the dead guys, we follow the guys that doesn't matter for the story at all. Everyone has his or her five minutes show. I didn't like it at all. It makes the first half of the book quite boring as we get to know the past and personality of the new person with every chapter. And the long, long retrospections are slowing the plot even more.
Yea, I think this is the main problem. The whole story is rather slow.
I will probably give this series another chance, maybe even start with the first book this time. But I don't feel like doing it right now.
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed. I didn't feel the connection with the main characters. Maybe it's because I haven't read the previous books but still... I found Lucy quite boring despite her emotional problems. And I can't decide if Sean should be seen as a bad boy or as a nice guy.
Part of the problem is that the story follows umpteen different people, some of them completely indistinct to me. We follow the good guys, we follow the bad guys, we follow the dead guys, we follow the guys that doesn't matter for the story at all. Everyone has his or her five minutes show. I didn't like it at all. It makes the first half of the book quite boring as we get to know the past and personality of the new person with every chapter. And the long, long retrospections are slowing the plot even more.
Yea, I think this is the main problem. The whole story is rather slow.
I will probably give this series another chance, maybe even start with the first book this time. But I don't feel like doing it right now.

What a Fast Paced, Exceptional Story.. So much corruption, murders, conspiracy, took you on a roller coaster of a ride... One of the best of the SERIES :-)

I have mixed feelings about this book. Was it a 3, 3.5 or a 4?
I'm not summarizing the story as it's in the description and in lots of other reviews...
The Lucy Kincaid books need to be read in sequence; there are just too many characters and too many plot points that you miss too much if you haven't read the prior books. But even if you have read the prior books this book just has so many characters going every which way it's really hard to keep track or remember who every one is.
I didn't classify this as romantic suspense; although there are pairings of couples there really is very, very little romance in this novel. Not necessarily good or bad, just a classification heads up.
Although I like Lucy and I really like Lucy and Sean together, there were times that Lucy got annoying in this book. It wasn't just one thing, but the combination. Although Sean had a pivotal plot point, he didn't get any page time and that was disappointing.
I had suspension of disbelief issues. This was an over the top police action plot and there were times it seemed too much. This book wrapped up a lot of threads, killed people off and still left unknowns at the end of the book that I would have liked to seen wrapped up.
The good guys vs bad guys plot was riveting and I read non-stop even though I was irritated by a few things that didn't seem right. My main problem is I didn't buy the way they got to the ending. The courtroom scene made all the good guys look like keystone cops, Sean's last plot line was TSTL and after I had invested all this time in this book I was disappointed.

The Lucy Kincaid series is a very intense one...the FBI rookie Special Agent can not seem to escape big trouble and drama-CONSTANTLY. I'll be honest, at first I thought this theme would grow stale and/or boring really fast, but there are SOOO MANY important characters in this series and tons of intense off-shooting story line, well I think it's got a LOT more time left!
Allison Brennan is a truly expert author. She's one of my mega-faves for sure. Her writing is just so, I don't know, maybe it's her experience that shows through? I just a majesty's sucked right into an unputdownable story when I open something she has penned. Brennan's stories do not come with typos, errors, ebook page problems and are so well researched that it would be really hard to find a mistake in her translation of the details in any scene, imho. I highly recommend checking out ANYTHING she has written; if you love suspense & mystery as much as I do, the Lucy Kincaid series is a excellent choice!

TENSION is one word to describe this fast paced thriller! I somewhat came late in the game as this is the 10th of a series of Lucy Kincaid. It left me wanting me more and I was thankful that I was not to lost picking up the 10th book. The life of Lucy Kincaid as a federal agent in the drug trafficking world is anything but boring. When fellow agent Nicole Rollins is arrested and charged for working for the cartel, Lucy begins to doubt herself for not seeing the real Nicole. The previous books I assume deal with putting Nicole behind bars and No Good Deed deals with Nicole making her escape and recovering the 23 million that the Federal government took from her Drug Cartel family. Lucy is determined to find out who the real Nicole is and that means going back to when she became an agent. She uncovers inconsistencies of her past and a cover up that only leads to more questions. Lucy recently engaged to Sean who helped bring Nicole down now fears that Sean will be a target. Will they discover in time who Nicole really is. What motivates her sinister plans. With who can you trust, makes it a great thriller that can be hard to put down.

I...uhm...what to say about this book... First, it kept me up until the wee hours of the morning because I hit the serious action about the time I normally turn off the lights and try to sleep. Yeah...no. Not with this book. A lot of the Lucy Kincaid books can be read stand-alone. I don't think this one can. A reader, to get the full impact, really needs to read #8-DEAD HEAT and #9-BEST LAID PLANS before reading this one. There's a 3-book story arc that is intriguing, complicated, and on-so-very suspenseful. Read them all. You'll be glad you did!How to talk about this book without spoilers? I wanted to kill Sean. Lucy surprised me (but I shouldn't have been). I still have a book-boyfriend crush on Kane and can't wait for his story. Some threads sort of tied off in an uncomplicated square knot when I really wanted some intricate macrame twisty-turny resolution. I know that doesn't make sense, but might when you read the book. Because of that, the book is a 4.5 rather than a 5, but dang, reading this book still had me wishing I had a full pot of coffee and chocolate. You need both to get through to the end. Can't wait to see where Lucy's FBI career takes her next. Well done, Ms. Brennan.

Corrupt ex DEA agent, Nicole Rollins escapes in a prison transfer leaving behind 5 dead officers. Rollins obviously had inside help. FBI agent Lucy Kincaid is part of the largest task force ever formed in Texas to capture her. Rollins has left a trail of bodies behind her and if she isn't captured more will follow. Rollins is getting help from someone in the DEA, or FBI and possibly both so officials on the task force are trying to discover where the leak is. Rollins hasn't left the area, she has an agenda. They need to find out what it is, and fast. Lucy is in danger from this dangerous psychopath and her family along with anyone she holds dear. I would give this book a 4 1/2 if I could. It was an excellent read. Full of action, suspense and betrayal.

Great story lines me but WAY too much repetition and filler. Example Lucy gives information to one person and then the same info is repeated to another person at the command centre. Didn't need to read the same info 2-3 times. Half way through I ended up skipping the repetition and i could hardly wait till I got to the end of the book.
This was definitely not one of her good reads. I've read all and many of the previous books were way better.

Am enjoying the characters of this book very much. Sometimes you never know just who you can trust, especially in upper echelons of the law enforcement community. Family, however, always comes through. Family, also, can bring your downfall. Glad I found this author and have ordered another of her efforts.
