"I hate it"

I hate it because I can only give it five stars and it deserves more
I hate it because it forced me to read three books in two days
I hate it because it kept me awake the first night thinking about the books and characters
I hate it because it kept me awake till three am and fell asleep , reading the last few chapters with bleary eyes
I hate it because I got up early next morning to reread the last chapters again.
I hate it because Lindsay Buroker is such a wonderful story teller and since

Kindle freebie, Jan. 9, 2018, for this collection of the first three books in this series. Dragons! Lindsay Burokar is one of the better self-published authors of adult fantasy, from what I've read of hers before. It's worth a shot.

ETA: Hah, turns out I downloaded this the last time it was a freebie in 2017 and promptly forgot all about it. What can I say? My Kindle is overstuffed.

So, I picked up this trilogy for free (a daily freebie) and then actually picked up the fourth one as well (what the heck, I thought, the fourth one was cheap so it can't be all that bad!), thinking that this could be an interesting read and, hey, it was cheap. You can probably tell from my rating that I was disappointed. Not just because this is a lengthy series (something like 8 books at this writing), but because this series left me wanting. Not wanting more, but wanting. And I hate to pan ...more

Book 1: Enjoyable. It'll make you want to read/listen to the other two books in the Omnibus.
Book 2: Introduces two new characters I couldn't care less about, and a storyline none too interesting.
Book 3: ... I can't even begin to explain how disappointing it was.

The first book is great, I rather enjoyed it—a solid 3 out of 5—but the second and third books leave much to desire, especially when you have the first one to compare them to.
I knew I was in for a disappointing ride as soon as I was

Had a lot of fun reading the first three books in the Dragon Blood series. Since I wrote individual reviews for all of them, I don't think I'm going to copy-paste them here on Goodreads. If anyone's interested in reading my thoughts, then:

A strong fantasy, adventure saga!

The books in this series get stronger with each installment (so far). The action and adventure was at a high with this one. Though books one and two ended like a stand alone would, book three leaves you knowing there is much more in store for the characters.

It was a slow build, but definitely got me hooked into the series by the time I reached the end. I’ll definitely keep the remaining books of the Dragon Blood series on my watchlist for when the other books

Book 1
I liked the main characters in this story and found them interesting. The world, too, is intriguing, although I feel like this first book only succeeded in giving a very slim glance at the world at large. There was no long tirade explaining the culture, technology and magic just bits and pieces here and there as needed. Enough to wet my curiosity, but not enough to satisfy. I am going into the second book, still trying to figure out the rules of this world.

I thought the plot was

A very enjoyable steampunk adventure, join Col. Bridgewater his crazy crew including pimples, apex, raptor, duck among others. Also a three hundred year old wizard and her sword (soul blade), the blade provides a sense of humorous dialogue. Such terms as soul schnitzel are included!

Dragon Blood series

These are the first three books of a series of five (so far).. for me it was easy reading but there was sometimes too much focus on romance parts, it would have been better if the author elaborated on the story's sci-fi/fantasy world instead.

What an adventure!

Fast moving stories and a fast read! Could flesh out the characters a little more although the stories themselves are well imagined.
I first read Lindsay Buroker's 'Balanced on a Blade's Edge' a while ago now, and I remember thinking at the time that it was quick paced and enjoyable, with an interesting world, but generally superficial.

Well, let me just say that with the rest of these books being added to the series, Lindsay Buroker has done a great job of expanding on the original idea and building the world out further. I'm still probably not as attached to the characters here as I am to those in her Emperor's Edge series,

It kind of sucks this only counts as 1 book in reading challenge, but is actually 3 books read :D anyway>

Book 1. I really really enjoyed, yes it has the basic story outline overall (Person in foreign time, falls in love with "captor", saves the world etc..) but the way the characters are written is what makes or breaks a book with a semi-predictable plotline. (I say semi as you know how it will end but not all the steps to it) I really actually grew to like Ridge, Sardelle and even Jaxi. The

1) Balanced on the Blades Edge
4 Stars

This was exciting. My first read by this author and I enjoyed it very much. With so many colorful characters, a sarcastically funny sword and two main leads with a great sense of humor, this made for a very engaging read. I wished there was more on Sardelle's past but there was still enough information to keep the reader interested.

2) Deathmaker
4.5 Stars

Excellent, except for a few cliches

"Balanced" was actually one of the first ebooks I read when I got my initial Kindle Fire for Christmas several years ago. I enjoyed it then, liking Col. Zirkander and Sardell as well as their world. I don't think the serial had been released then, although I could be wrong.

I went ahead and re-read the first story (might as well, since it's part of this set), which is obviously written as a standalone, before diving into the serial. It's a good yarn, even if the

I feel bad giving this series of novellas only 3 stars. The writing was quite good and the setting was interesting. However, I didn't realize when I started that these were romance novels. Not pornographic, but the first two books especially were romance-first, setting and plot second. They also all needed to be longer. Each novella was about 250 pages, and I never felt like the story and the world were really explained.

The first book was very interesting. A 300 year old sorceress waking up in

I kept reading for Tolemek

As per usual, the main charcters Ridge and Sardelle weren't that interesting. Your generic romantic pair. The only interesting thing about Sardelle is her being a sorceress and even then, she gets herself and Ridge into more trouble than is necessary. I tolerated Cas as a character. I just find Lindsay's female characters to usually be annoying lol. But Tolemek was perfect. I loved his inner conflict between his loyalty to his people and to his new love. He was just a

Finished the trilogy. Good premise and great story, lovable characters, very well written. I got this as a freebie, in January 2019 I think, and I’m definitely buying the fourth book in the series.

Balanced on the Blade’s Edge:
A sorceress, buried underground, awakes after 300 years to find her entire civilization destroyed. Her mountain home has been turned into a prison, mining valuable resources for a society at war with an empire. She must find her sword, an intelligent magic item called a

This trilogy was a freebie on Kindle and I was between books. I jumped on it based on the title alone. Then got busy and forgot about it. A year later and I finally got around to reading it. It is a very enjoyable series. Something about the storytelling is very simplistic and shallow. The character development is weak. The story is great but the characters are a bit flat. The world building is a bit lacking and things felt a bit two dimensional. It felt to me that this is an author's first ...more

Discovered Lindsay Buroker's series ... I don't know what to call them - dragon series? But there aren't any real dragons in the first few books of the 7-book series, and then only 5 surprise surviving ones. Alternate-universe series? But it doesn't purport to be "earth". Rakish, devil-may-care, national-hero pilot? Check. Wonderful king with a sense of humor? Check. International warfare using little craft the equivalent of biplanes, and bigger craft supported by dirigibles? Check. Painful ...more

Lindsay Buroker writes with an easy to read style that captures your attention early in the story and pulls you completely into the adventure. Her characters are real people with real feelings. They get hurt. They have friends. They want to be loved. The adventures are good vs evil, but the evil sometimes can be turned into an ally or at least turned into no longer being an enemy. My only criticism of Buroker’s writing is that the stories are so enjoyable I hate to put them down and they often ...more

I really wanted to love this because I LOVED Emperor's Edge, and I thought I found a new fav author, but sadly, it didn't happen.

Book 1: Ok characters. Why does everyone fall in love in a day? And Sardelle's and Jaxi's powers are over the top ridiculous. Overall, intriguing enough to continue, but I have my doubts.

Book 2: I like these characters a lot better, especially Deathmaker. Once again, love after 1 day. What the hell. I'm continuing to book 3 solely because of Deathmaker and Cas.

A Terrific Set Of Books...

I have loved reading this set and hope there are more stories from this author. From waking up after 300 years where now everyone is afraid of magic and that's really all you know, now you must keep secret everything from your and your powerful soul sword's past. Finding help and friends from soldiers and pirates, a trip that is ordered by the King (he just doesn't know who all is really going or their real plans). Leads to a fun and magical trip where enemies can become

Not just steampunk pirates!, but heart-of-gold, mad-scientist, dreadlocked, misunderstood, inventor pirates! Not just fighter pilots!, but pint-sized, feisty-grrl, assassin-grade marks-woman fighter pilots! Plus talking swords! Steam-powered dirigibles! Out-of-time sorceresses! Caves, jungles, volcanoes, and the bubbling taiga of death!!! Wisecracking screwball comedy humour!
