The first Nightmares! had me intrigued and hooked from page one. Jason Segel and Kristen Miller mix real world problems with spooky situations and I’m here for it. Unfortunately for me – this one is just not as good as the first. It felt like the entire book was just a maze of confusing questions, riddles, and repeating situations. I really hope they decide to start on a new project, but we’ll see!

There's no denying I was a huge fan of this entire trilogy. It may not be the greatest or best written book in the world, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable and fun to read. It was exactly what I needed when I read it, and that's what matters.

These are really fun. I definitely don’t think I’d be reading them at all if the audiobooks weren’t narrated by Jason Segel (I have a major weakness for celebrity audiobooks,) but I’m glad I gave them a shot.
If you’re a fan of Jason Segel, I think you’ll like the audiobooks too. I really like when I can tell that the person narrating the audiobook is having a ball; this is why Katherine Kellgren’s so fabulous. Segel’s clearly enjoying himself immensely, getting to do all sorts of silly voices.

This was an interesting sequel, and I liked this more than the previous book. This one ends with a cliffhanger, though. The story involves a tonic, zombielike sleepwalkers, feelings, family, and dreams. There is also some humor, and the mystery was interesting. I didn't expect what happened.

I accidently started listening to this book first and realized quickly that I'd made an error. The second story begins immediately after the first ends and the series really needs to be read in order to make any sense.
The story is not so much scary as it is a declaration that only hope can overcome despair. In addition, I suppose it's also a critique of looking to miracle medicines to fix our medical issues.

Usually when it comes to children's books/middle grade books, I find myself unimpressed by the writing style (too juvenile) and the characters (too whinny) but I have to remind myself "hey, these books are written for a younger audience" so my expectations have to be lowered a bit. It wasn't until I discovered Nightmares! that I realized children's books can be entertaining, fun, and heartwarming all at the same time. I love these books! The Sleepwalker Tonic is the follow up to Nightmares, the first book in the series. Charlie and his friends spend most of this story in the waking world trying to figure out why the inhabitants of a neighboring town are behaving like zombies. They soon discover that the dream and nightmare worlds are at risk of being destroyed as well. Charlie, his friends and family must work together to find out who is behind it all and how to stop them.

I'm not sure you need to read the first book in the series, but I highly recommend it. It will provide background knowledge that will help you understand the plot and characters in this book. The Netherworld is where our nightmares live, and we learn to face our fears. This book deals with real feelings and focuses on the conflict between hope and despair. The plot makes those feelings very important to the events in the story, but it includes many other subplots and character relationships. I l

I'd been waiting to read this book because I wanted to read it all at once, and it was just as delightful as I expected. What I loved about this book (and the first book in the series) is that Jason Segel so clearly remembers what it is like to be a child. Reading this book, I felt emotions that I hadn't felt since childhood. My daughter asked me to read the first two books of this series and at first I thought...oh do I have too??? However, I found that they were pretty enjoyable. I like the fact that it's teaching the kids to face their fears and in doing so realizing that they may not be as bad as they seem. I think for a 12 year old, it's a pretty good read and she certainly enjoyed it and cannot wait for the third book (me either

Read this in one day. Really enjoying the series so far!
Super cute but prefer the first so far.
I really enjoyed the first book, it was fun, full of magic and the characters were awesome, the thing is… I didn’t felt the same with this one. I was sadly bored the whole time and I finished it just because I really like Charlotte, but aside from her, I just didn’t care about anyone else. I’m not sure if I’m going to keep reading this series or not, but at least I’m done with a book.
Just as cute as the first! Worth reading.

Well, this book has restored my faith in the series and in Segel’s writing skills. The Sleepwalker Tonic was considerably better than the first book. The story was more engaging and interesting. The characters were more endearing and entertaining. The scare factor, just a tad scarier. I loved it. With Halloween right around the corner, this is the perfect holiday read.

I really liked this book. I was especially pleased to find that my worst nightmare (at least, one of them: (view spoiler) *shudder*) was in the Netherworld, but they were only mentioned. And as they were never mentioned with fear and only seen from a distance, I survived the reading without having a panic attack. Yay!!!
