Allyn Kaplan, once a promising lawyer and now first in a new breed of magi, has dealt an improbable deathblow to a movement that sought to destroy his new Family and expose the magi existence to the world. But not without great cost. The McCollum Manor has fallen, the Family is on the verge of splintering, and the police, who believe Allyn is responsible for his sister's disappearance, are closing in.

Jaxon, the acting Grand Mage of the McCollum Family, struggles with Allyn to hold the Family together and stay ahead of the mounting investigation. But with the magi Forum unwilling to meet their request for aid, they're on their own, and only a desperate plan offers hope to reassert their Family's legitimacy and force the magi leadership into action.

Before they can act, a mysterious video appears online that can bring the investigation to their doorstep, pitting Allyn and Jaxon in a race against time to discover its origins before the police close in and their secret order is revealed.

a hard start, a little confusing at first. it became better and better as one keeps reading. it had nothing to do with the first book, but I have read the first part of this story by someone else.

Just awesome!

I was trying to think of what words to use to describe just how much I enjoyed this book - awesome doesn't quite cut it really. Love this series, the characters in the story and how it's just ridiculously hard to put this book down. I'm utterly intrigued by this world and can't wait to read the next book! I sincerely hope there'll be many more books pertaining to this series to follow from this author.

Another great read. A lot of times when reading a series I will have to go back and re-read the first book to refresh my memory. I did not have to do this with Splinter. All of the characters and story lines flow great.
Can't wait for book #3.
