You Are Important

Rate this book
Every child is precious and valuable. This warm, affirming book helps children know they matter because they are growing and learning new things, because they smile and laugh, because they give comforting hugs, and because we get to hug them. In fact, children are important just because they were born. The simple words and lively illustrations relate to their everyday lives, and the cover reinforces the book's Each child is a star.

You Are Important by Todd Snow in my opinion was short and simple but held a great message. Eric by Shaun Tan wasn’t my favorite book but there were some enjoyable aspects. I believe that colorful and detailed illurstrations and the simple text do an excellent job at affirming how special and important a child is because of so many varying reasons. I believe that this story would be best interpreted by students in preschool and kindergarten. I holds a vital message for every student, but I believe that it would best hold the attention and be entertaining for students at this age. As a future early elementary teacher I would include this in my library and make sure to remind my students everyday of how important they are.

Jack borrowed this book from the Ashland Public Library.

I picked it because he has enjoyed all the books in the series so far. He seems to like the illustrations of kids and their families, pets, surroundings, etc. I like the positive, self-esteem-building messages in them. I hope they soak in for Jack.

Not a huge fan of how faces were drawn, but it's a good message that encourages self-esteem while promoting kindness and consideration for others.

We read this book to our daughter nine years ago and now we read it to our son. I never tire of reading this one and I have likely read it a thousand times. It reads aloud beautifully and has an excellent message.
