Very approachable for a book on finances. Even without reading her first book on the subject, I don't feel like I missed any critical information starting with this book as someone who has decent financial literacy. I do think more examples of where you could find templates for things like the wills, trusts, and advanced life directives would have been helpful.

yeah! I thought it was good! it doesn't go in too much detail, but it gives a nice overall picture and contacts l context..
I was recently asked for more information and this is what I said:
have you ever seen shorts of Vivian aka your Rich BFF? Yeah, so it's that vibe and just gives more information to increase financial literacy to help inform choices- from retirement, estate planning, and kids. I thought it was good. Less of a how to and more of generally this is how it works and what might influence those decisions.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an early copy of this book! Below is my honest review.

I've seen many of Vivian Tu's Instagram reels, so I'm familiar with her personality. This book is exactly how she talks, which makes it very easy for most people to understand. Instead of having fancy jargon, she makes everything super easy to understand and super engaging. The last thing anyone wants when reading a non-fiction book is a boring narrator! And I love how she adds a touch of cultural perspective in there. I grew up with immigrant parents too, so everything that she writes resonates with me. Financial life choices can be overwhelming, but Vivian does a great job pointing out which ones are most important to make and which ones could have a bit more flexibility. I highly recommend anyone, especially those who are in their 20s, to pick this up! Even if you're in your 60s or older, there are choices that you can make now that might make your life easier in the future (when it comes to money).

4.5 rounded up

I’ve been following Vivian’s videos on YouTube for a while, so I was excited to read this. I find her book genuinely helpful—especially since navigating medical plans and retirement planning can feel overwhelming. It’s packed with practical guidance on everything from buying cars and houses to writing wills, making donations, and choosing insurance. I think it can be overwhelming if you try to read the whole book in one go. It’s more helpful to jump to the chapters that are most relevant to you at the moment. For me, a well-planned life equals peace of mind, and this book is a great companion on that journey. Highly recommend.

Thanks to HarperCollins for the ARC!

I’ve followed Vivian on social media for a while now, and I’ve now read both her books! While her first one covered the basics, this one got more in depth on bigger life moments and different financial accounts for success. I learned a lot more from this one, and enjoy how she writes like her tiktok sound. It makes it a lot more fun than reading a finance textbook!

There’s a few references to content from her first book, but if you know the basics of personal finance and investing you’ll be able to pick this one up without having read the other and learn about different options for retirement, trusts and insurance, as well as life events like buying a car or house or getting married.

I am quite a fan of Vivian Tu and have been for a while. I've read her first book and followed her on various internet forums for a while and she never fails to give spot on information presented in an informative and accessible manner. This is also not your average "get rich" book because of its focus on legacy and building wealth for future generations, which many resources do not focus on as much in depth. I love her honesty and transparency - it's refreshing and deeply useful. She also seems incredibly non-judgmental, which is crucial when you are talking about something SO potentially sensitive and high stakes.

Also, love the title. Love a pun.

This book is a no-nonsense, practical guidebook for adulting. The author gives a roadmap of how to do the basics - buy a car, a home, negotiating the big purchases and coming up with a plan for retirement. Her advice is easy to understand, as she lays out the what-if's that we should be contemplating when managing our money and future. This book is perfect for a young, fresh-out-of-college adult that needs financial guidance, or an older adult that needs a refresher on making smart money decisions.

Thank you to the author, Vivian Tu, William Morrow | Harper Wave, and NetGalley, for the opportunity to read this book as an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5

Vivian has a really approachable and comfortable way of explaining personal finance — it’s why she became so popular on social media and continues to grow her popularity through other media, including books.

I did t read her first book, but I’ve read similar ones by Katie Gatti-Tassin and Tori Dunlap, and I feel that Vivian’s are a nice complement and not duplicative. This book dives into practical areas of finances such as retirement, insurance, estate planning, etc. without making the reader feel overwhelmed.

Thank you to Harper Collins and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Financial planning is empowering!

In her second book, Vivian Tu provides an accessible guide to navigating life’s biggest financial decisions, from family planning to estate planning.

This is a great book to have as reference material and to read as you contemplate a big financial decision (like home ownership, wedding planning, investing in your child’s education and more).

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

This book is an interesting step up from Vivian’s first book. This was an excellent and informative read. Personal finance is a large blind spot for me. This has been eye opening for me. Her first book was very much how to save money and build your wealth. This is very much how to spend your money responsibly or plan for your expenses. I learned a lot. I thought this book was practical and educational. It spoke to my values and goals. Money is not just money. It’s how we feel about ourselves when we spend, lose, or need money— I found this book considerate of that.

(Thank you William Morrow and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.)

Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for the ARC.

I loved this. Again, I’m very wary of financial gurus. The BS C&BA and MBA as well as a budding procurement consulting career have put my bullshit-o-meter into overdrive. But, as with Rich AF, this book is NOT bullshit.

I think this makes a good sister book to Rich AF and a great twin pack gift for anyone you think could use a little financial literacy brush up (which is really everyone tbh). This book really hits the spend & plan portions of your financial life. So if you are already saving and investing, then this really focuses on the rest of the features that can get your financial house in order.

I will be buying myself a copy along with Rich AF because I think both together make a great comprehensive beginners guide (honestly maybe even intermediate guide if you put all the pieces together and supercharge your financial future).

Highly recommend!
