Faeries, Farms and Folk was a delightful, nostalgic adventure into the agrarian life of Scotland. It follows a family through troubles and joys, and gives excellent, well-researched insight into the lives of our forebears. While I sometimes got confused with too many M names, I well know that this is authentic to the time! I highly recommend this to anyone interested in Scotland or the 'simpler' life. ...more
This was such a wonderful story. I love history and I think if more history was written this way we all would love it. You are transported back in time with the McMurdo family, from their beginning as farmers working the land and ending in the dark dusty coal mines. It's as if you are an unmentioned family member right there in their cottages with them, in good times and in bad; with every job lost and gained; with every birth and death.
