So this is the second book in the Narrows of Time series. In it, Lucas is in search of his missing brother Drew, who was taken through a time portal by vicious aliens. Lucas feels guilty because Drew is his younger foster brother and Lucas promised to protect him. Lucas is a scientist and is very smart but Drew is a genius. He is aided by a military man named Rico who is teaching Lucas the ropes on how to be a macho man and a badass.
A curious dichotomy exists here. It is like two different people are writing the books. The first is someone who has background in quantum physics. The second one is a 14 year-old boy. The lowbrow, casual speech is in contrast with the main character's supposed genius intellect. Also, the way women are portrayed in the book borders on cringy. Although I feel the author made a concerted effort to not be cringy towards the end of the book.
This book, unlike the first, has many spelling errors. They REALLY stand out in a book that is supposed to be pseudo-science fiction. For example, "why waist time," and "you're just a bunch bunch," instead of 'bunch of." I hope the third book had a more capable proofreader.
However, I still liked the book. It's a good story, and I really don't care for authors who bend over backwards to be politically correct and woke. This is a man's book, written for that man who likes Star Trek science and also ogles the women in those short space-issue dresses.
