“how glorious this revolution could have been” i don’t think i have ever considered myself at a loss for words while writing a review but my vocabulary is non existent. The Sons are back and their next mission? They need to figure out how you kill a God. New, and old enemies are here, the Sons are ripping at the seams, and we have officially set sail to find the death of a God. i genuinely don’t know what to say other than what did i just read. Daughters of Defiance was filled with swashbuckling adventures and adrenaline filled missions. it was also made me cry for 20 minutes but doesn’t every good book? i loved getting to be back with the Sons and meet the new crew and characters. I literally have NEVER been at such a loss for words after finishing this book. all in all i loved this book and im begging for the third.
Songs i thought of while reading:
Theodosia (reprise) - sara bareilles
Orange Juice (spotify singles) - noah kahan

Thank you so much to Hamilton for giving me the honors of ARC reading!

It was AMAZING to get back into this world. Gunpowder fantasy (as I’ve heard it called) is SUCH a fun genre that really isn’t delved into as much as it should be, and this series is a top-tier introduction!

I love all of these characters so much, though Baen and Hamilton are probably my favorites of the main cast of book one. Jacks Rackham is 100% my favorite of the new characters, though (please be my dad). And the character dynamics?? The motivations?? Their banter?? Always amazing.

The question of how to kill a god really DOES capture the entire book, even if you don’t realize its most direct meaning until the end. The story is action-packed and fast-paced, leaving you hungry to read through the pages.

The ending was what really locked in this rating because WOW. Fast-paced, confusing in all the best ways, and it leaves you begging for the next book to come out immediately.

Sorry to Hamilton for spamming her DMs with all of my crazy reactions, but MAN, this is such a great book.

THANK YOU sydney hamilton for sending me this book as an ARC (and i am so sorry my review is just now being posted so i will happily sit with my suffering upon finishing)
tallmadge is back! our favorite fighting revolutionary, this time with some new friends! i won't say much, but i will say that sydney has outdone herself with this sequel! the world building from book one gets more fleshed out, the character arcs are clicking into place, and the battle between the West and the Sons is perfectly teed up for a grand finale! we also get a lovely new set of character additions, one of which is a beautiful blonde rebel pirate that i am obsessed with🫶🏻
if you enjoy found family, a feisty fmc, a complex magic system, and the fight for justice, i cannot recommend Sons of Liberty and Daighters of Defiance enough!
(and sydney whenever you want to give me my emotionally stunted lightning wielder back i am ready)
