I don't like giving books less than 3 stars, but that just seems like too much in this case. I didn't hate it, but I didn't like it either.

The ending did make me like the book a bit more, but I felt cheated and there was some stuff that happened that just made me absolutely despise this book for so many reasons.

Lyric has got to be one of the most annoying main characters of all time and I don't remember thinking that in the first book.

I wish that I liked this one more than I did. I still kinda w

I received a copy of Raging Sea from a Goodreads giveaway for a true and honest review. I was not paid for this.

I really wanted to like this book. The first one I liked well enough, which made me want to like this one even more. Unfortunately, I did not. There were a couple of things that bothered me consistently throughout the book.

1. The author says some kind of racist shit. Like, I think he's trying to be inclusive, but not even the editor picked up on the fact that this stuff was coming acro

Gah!!!! Another cliffhanger ending! I can't wait another year to know!
Wow. I don't know what it is about this author's writing that draws me in and locks me in a web I can't escape, but I was hooked. The story continues a little bit after the last one left off, but it quickly picks up speed.

In the last book, I was attracted to the interactions between Fathom and Lyric, as their conversations alone were enough reason to read the book. Fathom is just not the type of character you usually see in YA, and honestly it is so refreshing. But beyond that, you have the mos

I had such high hopes for this one... So disappointing. I guess the author was hoping no one was familiar with TX or a trek across it. He made it sound like the entire state was desert. The book starts in a desert and then it turns out they have to go across the state to get to the Tempest compound. So if you're coming from the east coast and have to travel across TX you don't start out in the dessert! So that was a bad start. And then the San Saba part. I guess the author was hoping no one was ...more

*My Thoughts*

Raging Sea is the second installment in Michael Buckley's Undertow series. In the weeks following the end of Undertow, 17-year old Lyric Walker, her best friend Rebecca "Bex" Conrad, and Titan clan member Arcade, went on the run. Lyric is on the FBI's most wanted list, and is being labeled as the Coney Island Terrorist. Funny since she and others actually tried to save her home of Coney Island from an invading force! No

4.5 stars! Well I was pleasantly surprised... keeping this story on land was a good move. And it did keep my interest. Arcade is a fantastic character! It was suspenseful and creepy. I pictured all of it because of the incredible descriptive details. I was kind of disappointed that Lucus' character didn't develop, but overall it was really well done. World Building+++

Fantastic end to an excellent trilogy. Quick and smart and creative, it has so many storylines that relate to what's happening in the real world today.

RAGING SEA: This book starts out with Lyric, Bex, and Arcade stranded in the desert looking for a place called Tempest. Most of their day is stealing from stores to get what they need. Once they are done they walk until sundown and call it a night. One of these they get caught and have to find a way to escape. This involves injuring police officers which makes them a target for all cops. They end up stealing a car to get around faster. That car runs out of gas and they new one. I loved all the e ...more

This book is about a girl named Lyric, she has to go on a journey from New York to Texas with her best friend Bex and a snarky Alpha girl, Arcade. They are on the run and Lyric is chasing after Tempest (an organization that imprisoned the Alphas and their families). On the journey she gets captured and made a deadly offer she can't refuse. In exchange for keeping her family and friends safe she has to train human Alpha hybrids like her to use their glove or oracle to fight thousands of Rusalka t ...more
I compared the first book to The Vicious Deep, but this one takes a far more apocalyptic turn more reminiscent of Falling Skies. The East Coast is gone (and, in at least one case straight out of the first Independence Day, a city gets nuked - "may our children forgive us"), and now, Lyric and her friends are traveling west, into more desert-y parts of the country - exactly what you would NOT expect for a story about war between humans and merpeople.

On the one hand, the story's pretty strong awar

Second book failure-2.5 stars
The first 1/3 of the book was slow. The people she met,her memories, her petty little fights just seemed stupid. The MC was so immature, yes i know she is young but this was over the top.
The author has the bad guys do some really heinous deeds, detailed and he has the sex scene fade to black. Yes, it actually says "fade the black" I was sick of her special unbreakable snowflake attitude that she could take them all on and win. She was like a stupid caveman with god

I stil don't know what to precisely think of this book.
In general, it was a good read, a really good one. But some elements disturbed me, I'm mixed on my feelings. Lyric is stronger than we saw her in the first book, her powers increased and she is more determined to use it. I think things happens too fast in this book, that the author does not take the time to precise certain parts of the story.
I still liked the fact that we did not forget Fathom (Lyric and him are OTP for me) but... Well

I thought I wouldn't remember what happened since I read undertow so long ago but this book was still really good! I love the character development and of course I'm still in love with Fathom and Lyric!!!! The last pages made me crazy!! So much kickass violence and so much love between everyone.

I have learned and read about the raging sea she’s a very good children’s book. There are many books from the same author. The Raging sea is a very good intreating and slow book. If your bored don’t have anything else to do read the series from Michael Buckley. It’s bulky and awkward in the begin but once you read until the rest of the chapter it’s get better once you know you reading. These books are understandable if you read carefully.

Much like my feelings after reading the first book in the Undertow trilogy: wow. Once again, Michael Buckley has blown me straight out of the water - pun intended. This book was exactly what I need right now. It pulled me in, it made me forget everything besides what was going on right on the page and therefore in my head. It makes you feel such a broad spectrum of emotions - it will make you laugh (one of my favorite parts was Lyric's four steps of shoplifting, it was hilarious), it will make y ...more

Lyric Walker. Half human, half Alpha. Running for her life with her best friend and an Alpha who tolerates/hates her most of the time. Meanwhile, most believe she is responsible for the deaths of thousands and the continual advancement of the Alphas onto land. Lyric has to find a way to save herself and her traveling companions, her family, and all those being kept for torturous experiments.

First, a note. Any reader who tries to read Raging Sea without having read Undertow first will likely fin

I continue to enjoy this series because of the constant action, suspense, and distinct feeling of adventure. As the first book left off, the city of Coney Island is flooded by the recent appearance of the alpha. In Raging Sea the book starts off by Lyric, Bex, and Arcade being stranded in the Texas desert. They have to steal food and other essentials, but on one of their attempts they are caught and tracked down by the police. When they keep running away to different towns, they manage to steal ...more

Holy shit. Read this in one sitting. Michael Buckley KNOWS how to write. Like, I can't comprehend.
No second book syndrome here, none at all.
The rating is more of a 4.5, but 100% deserves to be rounded up.

This book was epic. Starting off with the obvious- I'm obsessed with this cover. Can't wait to see the visuals for the third books. A little lighter on the romance, but that was OK. I really dug the development of the Lyric/Bex/Arcade friendship. I feel
The Undertow trilogy continues in Raging Sea and I was lucky enough to have received a copy through the Goodreads First Reads giveaways. I was so excited to see what would happen next with Lyric and even what would happen with the Alpha. We are of course left dying for the third book, as is usually the case in dystopian trilogies. I actually enjoyed this one even more than the first. So if you had your doubts in the first, don't fret. Brace yourself for even more action, a much cooler cover, and ...more

More of a 4.5.
This book was! My only problem was that I barely remembered anything from the first book. I still have no idea who Doyle is, possibly her principal... I remember the basics but not certain details, like when Lyric got her arm "oracle".
Despite my forgetfulness, I still really enjoyed this book. Michael Buckley's books never lack creativity and originality. There were so many scenes that I felt like throwing up with disgust. All the descriptions were so on point and felt

All I can say is wow. It was perfect. It complimented the first book of the series perfectly. I waited nearly a year after finding the right book to get my hands on this new release. I was not disappointed. I missed Lyric so much. She has to be one of my favorite characters ever because of how self aware she is. The undersea world that Buckley has created us superb. It is interesting the different kind of species. It hooks you as you imagine what each one looks like how they will react in a batt ...more

I picked up my Mom's copy of Michael Buckley's "Raging Sea" that she won from a Goodreads giveaway out of curiosity. Whereas my curiosity was initially piqued by the cover (which I love), I became more intrigued after reading the back of the book.

I was a bit lost as I have not read the preceding "Undertow" novel, but Fathom and Lyric are both interesting characters and the plotline is quite compelling as well. I will definitely have to pick up the previous novel so that I get a better gist of wh
Not exactly how I thought this one would go. Kind of disappointed with the ending too. I'm not sure there was character growth as much as there were changes to the characters characterizations (if that makes sense). I think Lyric changed enough to seem like she finally understood her place in the world but too much was placed on her shoulders to seem realistic. Also, this didn't read as a continuation but a new tangent in the story. Looking forward to the final installment though as it should br ...more

This was a good sequal, NOT GREAT, but good. I decided to give it four stars because I found the Lyric to be highly irritating at times, I put the book down for a while because she was annoying. I'm a little confused by some turn of events, but I'll deal with it.

However, I can't wait for the third book ^^

I won this book from Goodreads First Reads.

Raging Sea by Michael Buckley is the second book of the Undertow trilogy. This series mixes some very interesting ideas such as a dystopian society and a race of fish people. This second installment brings everything to new heights as Lyric Walker must fight for her kind. It was very enjoyable to read and I look forward to the final installment.
