Very good book about family and overcoming the past. Jake found out that he has a four year old daughter right before the girl's mother and he were caught in an earthquake's aftershock. Jake was injured, but the woman died. Now Jake is trying to take care of her without depending on anyone else and feels completely overwhelmed. Enter Millie, half-sister of his brother's wife, who is willing to act as nanny while Jake recovers.
I loved that first scene, with Jake wearing a purple tutu, trying to cheer up Brooke, and dripping spilled juice all over the place. He wanted so desperately to be able to handle everything on his own and didn't want to admit he needed help. Having lost her mother, Brooke doesn't want to let her daddy out of her sight. I loved seeing Millie step in and begin to bring order out of chaos.
Jake came to Crimson because his brothers are there, but he doesn't take advantage of their offers of help. He carries a lot of guilt over things that happened when they were younger and finds it hard to believe that they want anything to do with him. Millie has come to Crimson to visit her sister and deal with some career issues of her own.
I loved seeing the relationship develop between Jake and Millie. There is a simmering attraction that they try to fight at first. Millie has fears of becoming like her mother, so she keeps a tight hold on her independence. Jake has a fear of letting down anyone who depends on him, so he avoids any kind of relationship. But there is something between the two of them that neither can deny, and they slowly start to open up to each other. I loved seeing Millie bolster Jake's relationship with Brooke and try to show him that all he really needs to do is be there for her. Jake senses that someone did a number on Millie's confidence in her abilities with children, and in herself. I loved his defense of her at the party and his belief in her when she told him her story. Their feelings for each other grow, but their fears still keep them apart, until a crisis with Brooke brings them back together. I loved Jake's big moment at the end, with the adorable assistance of Brooke.
There were some very emotional moments, such as Brooke's acceptance of her mother's death and her intense need to stay close to Jake. Jake's fear when she went missing and his realization of how much he needs her too was heart wrenching. I also loved seeing Jake mend his relationships with his brothers. There were also some very fun moments, such as his activities with Brooke. I loved some of the things she said so matter-of-factly. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them in later books.

Jake was overwhelmed when he was suddenly caring for his young daughter but didn't want to admit it. He was thankful one of his brothers' wives had sent Millie to help him. But he didn't want to admit that either. Even though neither Jake nor Millie wanted relationships, Millie bonded with little Brooke right away. Whether they wanted it or not, Jake and Millie grew close. I liked the way Millie helped Jake and Brooke have a relationship. Not an easy thing to do when Brooke did want him out of her sight, afraid he'd never come back, just like her mother when she died.
This book had some emotional times but there were fun moments, too. I really enjoyed it.

My first read of Michelle Majors and I loved it! This book was given to me for an honest review by the author and honestly, I read it in one sitting. I didn't want to put it down. Jake finds out he has a 4 yr old daughter right before the mother and him are involved in an aftershock from an earthquake killing her. Millie arrives at the door as a possible Nanny to a scene out of a storybook. Jake in a tutu trying to get his daughter to quit crying over spilling her juice (also in a tutu with a soggy stuffed bunny dripping all over). Little Brooke is glad she has a daddy and can't bear for him to get out of her sight. The transitioning for Brooke and Jake is taking their toll. Jake in splints from surgery does not know the first thing to do. Well Millie does, aka Fairy Poppins. As the love grows between these 3 characters you can't help but be a cheering section for them.

They both were caught in a collapsed building; only Jake, with serious injuries, survived. Now, he’s struggling to settle into fatherhood, build a bond with Brooke, navigate his own recovery, and deal with Brooke’s grandparents, who will try to convince him that his daughter belongs with them. His life is in upheaval right now, and he needs help; even though he’ll never directly ask for it.
Millie, Olivia’s half-sister, is taking a semester off from her early childhood education internship. She abruptly left the program without a real explanation to Olivia that made sense. She’s been volunteered to take on a nanny role for Olivia’s husband’s brother, Jake. It doesn’t take long to see that Jake is in desperate need of help, in spite of his hands-off, I don’t need help attitude. Or to fall for a sweet little girl, and perhaps her daddy, too.
It was so easy to fall into this story, and to fall in love with this found family that could work perfectly if only the adults would just get out of their own way to happiness. Jake is stubborn to an extreme, has issues with his own family’s situation as a young man, and believes that his work with a medical program that sends doctors to emergency locations around the world is his only passion, his reason for living. He’s wrong, but it will take the love of his daughter, and of the woman who fits into his life so easily, to prove that to him.
Millie is also dealing with her own demons. When what she’d gone through was revealed, I was both heartbroken and infuriated at what had been allowed to happen to her. It’s, unfortunately, not uncommon, but that doesn’t take away the pain or the betrayal.
I enjoyed Suddenly a Father by Michelle Major so much. If you love a well-written, emotional romance with touches of laughter, found family, and a couple you cannot help but root for their happy ending, then you’d enjoy Millie, Jake, and Brooke’s journey to a happy ending.

Book cover is misleading
Sorry but that had to be clarified. The child in question is older than the picture. Nonetheless I loved this book. Main characters, Millie, Jake and Brooke are a wonderful put together family of happenstance. Different things bring them together in the first place but they find their way to each other. Love

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in the mundane day to day things we forget about what is really important. Michelle Major does a beautiful job of bringing home importance of appreciating the simple things as well as being thankful for the important ones as well. Suddenly a Father is heartwarming mixture of drama and comedy. I enjoyed the story. The love story between the father and daughter Jake and Brooke is just as important as Jake relationship with Millie. An adorably funny read that touches the heart. I really liked this book! While it was of shorter length than what I usually read, I didn't feel like I missed out on anything. The characters were well developed, and the plot flowed along nicely. The author did a great job of catching the reader up during any small gaps in time between chapters (while not a big deal, I only mention this because I've read other books where this is done poorly). There were funny moments sprinkled throughout that helped to balance the deep/emotional moments. Many cute Father/Daughter moments with Jake and Brooke. I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but now I want to go back and read what I missed as I feel like there were some stuff in the other books maybe between Millie and Olivia that would've helped clear up their current relationship in this book. I couldn't figure out how Millie came from being the "other woman's daughter" to beloved sister. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and would definitely read a book by this author again. *** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoyed reading "Suddenly A Father" by Michelle Major. Dr. Jake Travers was a loner. He joined a company that sends him all over the world to help people. At one place a hotel was bombed and a lady he had a baby with died. Jake didn't know anything about the child who is now 4 years old. The lady came to him to tell him about the child. During the fall of the hotel Jake was trapped and injured his left hand and left leg. He goes and gets his daughter from her grandparents and moves back to his home town. Brooke is the four year old. She doesn't want to be out Jakes site. Millie Spencer comes to town to visit her sister. Her sister told her to go to Jakes and apply for the job of a nanny. Millie gets the job and helps Jake and Brooke deal with their problems. They end up becoming a family. Had many past history problems to get past first. A very interesting book. A must read.

Delightful contemporary romance! Suddenly A Father is a heartwarming story told with lots of humor and longing that keeps you turning pages! I love Major's books set in Crimson, Colorado, and this book is one of my favorites. Jake is completely out of his league between having fatherhood thrust on him and an injury that might mean the end of his career. Millie is in need of a home in more ways than she can admit. The dialogue is clever, the little girl is a doll, and the sexual tension between Jake and Millie heats up with every chapter! It was so fun to see the characters from previous books in the series and find out how they're doing as well. Majors' stories just keep getting better! I highly recommend!

I just loved that here is a tough doctor like Jake seeing for the first time that asking for help can be so much more than just help. The chemistry between Millie and Jakes little girl is just so cute and wow on the attraction with the daddy. I felt for Jake being a first time father and coming back to a place with so many bad memories. Michelle Major in doing such a great job about love, family and second chances to even those who think they don`t deserve it. Loved it and can`t wait for more from Michelle Major and what is in store for a little town like Crimson.

This book was an enjoyable read. The story line was well thought out and the characters were developed. It was a great happily ever after story. I think that Millie’s problems could have been elaborated on a little bit more, however, this did not really deter from the story. I did not realize that the book was part of a series… which means that it was a good standalone story and did not have large gaps if you hadn’t read the other book. Jake finds out he's a father when the childs mother is dying and she insists that he raise Brooke, the child he never knew existed. Millie comes into their lives as Brooke's nanny, and lights up their world. After some stuttering steps Jake realizes that he doesn't want to wander the world anymore, he wants to make a life with Millie and Brooke. Fantastic love story!!

A wonderful read! Millie's character is so interesting that I wished I knew someone similar. Even though she comes with a history because of her mother and her internship, she doesn't let that stop her from being helpful and friendly to others. She teaches Jake how to be a father to Brooke. She provides Brooke with structure and routine that she so desperately needs during a difficult transition of her life. Definitely a great read and entertaining ending!

This is a heartwarming story about the healing power of love. Major creates believable, interesting characters and a wonderful family. It looks like this might be the third book about this family, based on the discussions in the novel, but I didn't feel like I missed anything important to appreciating this one. It made me cry in the best way.

If I had an ideal image of a happily ever after story, Suddenly a Father fits the bill. I enjoyed revisiting old friends in Crimson Colorado, but more important I loved getting to know Jake and Millie and Brookie Cookie! I enjoy the alluding to Millie's past troubles, but the ease with which it was addressed. I would definitely recommend this to fans of HEA stories!
