This year marks the 100th anniversary of the publication of H. G. Wells's famous novel about a Martian invasion. To celebrate, we are reissuing our adaptation of this sci-fi classic with brand-new cover art.
I don't know how my son learned about the War of the Worlds but he has been asking the Echo dot to play Jeff Wayne's musical version from 1977. My son is 7. I found this book on Amazon and read it to him and he acted out the scenes and hummed the music while I read. It made for an exciting week of before-bed-reading. He didn't get scared, but he should have - the book is creepy. Even though it was adapted by George Eliot it still read like an H.G. Wells book. If you have a reluctant reader this book is written at a second grade reading level while the content and interest level is a little higher.
Not the best of the Stepping Stone chapter books. A very basic version of the classic. Lots of random information added for no apparent reason. More survival story than science fiction.
