I loved the hero in this - a naughty boy going on thirty-three. He drinks too much, gambles too much and sleeps around too much. He's just an absolute charmer, does some pretty stupid things and I loved him. The heroine I liked as much, although a couple of times I thought she was verging on the TSTL. I mean, if someone was taking potshots at you through windows and beating you up, wouldn't you be just a tad bit freaked out? But, on the whole, I liked her fire and spunk.
Oh and what's with the coverboy on this book? He looks about twelve, and the whole point is the hero is gorgeous enough to make you drool. Also, the covergirl looks like a dancing girl not a saloon owner/high-stakes gambler. Just sayin'.
I fully enjoyed this great quick read from Beth Williamsons Malloy Famliy Series.
The story follows Trevor the good looking but ever so slightly selfcentred and lazy brother. After a bust up with his elder brother he goes off in a huff full of big ideas only to meet his come uppance a few days later. Saddled with a problem that he really should've had the sense not to get lumbered with he mans up and faces what he has to do. Give him his due he handled the situation perfectly....being the well mannered man his mama raised him to be...he didn't play his face or stomp off in a huff again. As the story unfolds Trevor finds himself fitting in with his self imposed duties and also falling for the woman who was responsible for him being in the place where he found himself. Adelaide Burns is a fighter, all her life she has had to fend for herself, learning to play poker being one of them...and shes good damn good, good enough that her winnings bought her a saloon, and shes not about too lose to anyone, not even Trevor. Adelaide knows from the start that Trevor is a good man just foolish so when he makes a huge mistake she decides just to teach him a lesson so as he wont make the same mistake again. Little do either of them know what the consequenes will be....thrown together they become close, very close, and hot between the sheets. As the hottness hots up Trevor realizes he loves Adelaide and becomes her champion when things in town start to get nasty. And get nasty they do..the story here becomes a real page turner as you wonder what will happen......
This was a great "manning up" story...Trevor is not a callow youth, he's a man, but doesn't really find that side of himself until Adelaide brings it out of him.
A great Historical Western for those who like their stories a little Jalerpino!
Trevor Malloy basically runs away from home when he gets sick and tired of the mundane routine of ranch life and does the bigger boy version of tossing his belongings into a kerchief and marching off. (Honestly, he's kind of being a big baby at this point ;) ) His path takes him into Cheyenne (I think) where Adelaide Burns owns a saloon. She's also kind of an amazing poker player, and when she deals, it is to her opponents' detriment when all they see is her rack and lovely smile. Trevor ends up owing her big-time, and as a result, ends up working for her to pay off his debt.
I really enjoyed this story. Adelaide is a smart, tough woman who knows herself and her place in the world. She also owns her desires and isn't ashamed of wanting what she wants. Trevor's got some growing up to do, and fortunately he steps up his game. A rival bar owner trying to drive Adelaide out of business adds an element of suspense.
Overall a great addition to the Malloys. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Similar format to prior books in series make it boring
Trevor Malloy is fed up with working on the family ranch. He likes his life to be easier. After rowing with his brother about his (Trevor's) laziness, he rides away, deciding to use his skill at poker and his talent with women, to enjoy himself. Adelaide is the owner/card dealer of the Last Chance saloon, but is having trouble with another saloon owner who wants to buy her out. Enter Trevor, cocksure he will clean up at the poker table.
Trevor is my least favourite of the Malloy brothers so far in the series. A womaniser, gambler and free spirit he appears quite immature compared to his brothers. I found the format of the book to be so repetitive of the prior ones in the series that I began to be bored. The sex scenes have been replayed so many times I began to skip over them. It amazes me that in a time when women were quickly labelled by their behaviour, how Beth Williamson can write scenes where sex is so public and no other character even raised an eyebrow. I think this series is beginning to lose some of its authenticity.
Trevor Malloy leaves his family home to get away and to become a professional gambler. But only it doesn't go that way, while stopping in Cheyenne, Wyoming he meets his match in poker and ends up owing her a debt he doesn't have the money for. Now he is working for Adelaide Burns in her saloon. Adelaide is the owner of Last Chance Saloon and doesn't let no man tell her what to do. And refuses to fall for Trevor's charm. But as the month goes on, with Trevor working his debt off, Adelaide and Trevor come closer together. Trevor realizes he only wants one woman for once, for the rest of his life. He will do anything for her. He loves her, but she doesn't know the emotion but when in danger she realizes what the emotion is.
The Gift was a good read. Hot, sexy, dangerous, lots of action.
LOVED these two! This may be my favorite one but I dunno, cuz I fell in love with Jack and Rebecca so...but its close...just WOW PS....I read the review of Noah's book and I am not too happy that his happily ever after is not Penny! Just sayin....
DNF. Note to self, this author just doesn't work for you. Male MC jerk who sleeps with anything that moves and female MC had potential but fell for his bs the first day.
