A coming of age meets the big bad! Assassins, intrigue and a bit of romance are all in this YA fantasy.

The idea behind Rise was so much fun!  An evil ruler who tracked down and imprisoned warriors who were in the Order.  And only one remained, Kaia, a sixteen year old girl who took care of her ailing father.  Of course I was glued to the pages in the beginning!  But I started to struggle connecting to some of the characters as the book progressed.   Especially when I learned that there were three love interests.  So while I loved the idea behind Rise, I wasn't that huge of a fan

So sad. really just upset. I don't want to do this!!!!!

I didn't love it *GASP*

I know. Crazy. I LOVE every single one of Jennifer Anne Davis' books but...I didn't feel this one. There were parts I liked but ultimately if I hadn't read the Key I probably wouldn't continue this series.

I just want to cry because I don't want to dislike one of my favorite Author's books. But I do.

Lets start with the things I liked:
1. The whole story line between Kaia and Morlet - LOVE. Once again jennifer has made he

Solid start to a new series! I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Anne Davis' books and this one didn't disappoint. I'm so curious to find out how this storyline is going to play out. I really enjoyed the twists and turns in Rise and I have a few theories about what might happen next!

I’m not quite sure how to review this book. It’s one of those reads with a list of a bunch of problems within the story, but you also found yourself liking it! I actually read Rise in one day, because it was a fast read but also because it kept me interested enough that the kindle stayed in my hands.

Let’s start with the things that I really liked. First, and most importantly, Morlet. What I feel for Morlet isn’t love, though if my hunch’s prove true I can see it easily becoming love. What I felt

This had a generally cool concept, but something about the writing didn't work for me and neither did the pseudo love triangle.

Summary:

When the balance of the world shifts, something must always occur to restore it.

In the case of the nation of Nelebek, things took a turn for the worse when Morlet, a man with dark magic coursing through his veins, takes the throne. His power is menacing and his reign is full of desperation. Yet, out of the dark, there must be light. This comes in the form of the Order of the Krigers; twelve warriors who come into their o

Fantasy books are amazing. Davis has brought us a wonderful new fantasy novels with an unlikely hero. She paints us a world where a kingdom has fallen under an evil ruler, and it can only be saved by 12 special warriors. The kingdom has been stuck under tyranny for a very long time so it's imperative for these warriors to be heroes and free their people. Only it's been a very long time and the twelfth warrior is nowhere to be found...

Enter Kaia. She's spent her life being raised by her father to

OH MY GOSH!!! I can't even begin to explain how much I love this book! This is the first book I have ever read by Jennifer Anne Davis and it will surely not be my last!

Rise grabbed me from the very beginning and held on tightly. The first night I started reading this book I could not put it down. I wound up staying up and reading this until the wee hours of the morning. The sun came up and it took everything in me to put this book down so I could get some sleep. When I woke up all I wanted to d

Oh Jennifer you brilliant writer, you! There hasn't been a book that you've written that I haven't loved and this one is defiantly no exception.

Kaia is a 16 year old who lives in poverty and filth but she has a loving father, so in her eyes it isn't all bad. Her father has raised her to fight and be strong and it's a good thing because she soon finds out why. She is the 12th Kriger.

She meets Anders and he saves her and helps her escape the capital. Ander

I always start trying to write a review and I think, "What can I really say that's different from the last review I posted, and the review before that. It's just another book. Sure, a great book, but still just a book." But this time, it's different. What do you say about a book as good as this? That it's thrilling? That you never want to stop reading it? That the author really made you feel the emotions? Yeah, sure. Let's say all of those. They're definitely all true. But it's more than that to ...more

Rise was a fantastic book. Early on Kaia learns that the training her father put her through all her life was not just to keep her safe but because she was the twelfth Kriger being sought after by the evil king, Morlet. Should he find her, he would have all twelve of the Krigers and could execute them all, ensuring no one could stop him. When Kaia runs into an assassin while on a mission to get the medicine her father so badly needs, she finds herself being propelled into the world of the Kriger ...more

I'm going to go all fangirl for a moment... Jennifer Anne Davis has managed to do it again. Her ability to tell a story and get me lost in a fictional world is unreal. I am not typically one for magic and powers and made up creatures, but my one exception is always Jennifer Anne Davis. I get lost in a world that transcends all expectations and incites emotion. I become invested in the characters, the story, the resolution. Not all books bring this out of me, but without fail, JAD has done it aga ...more

The evil Morlet keeps the people of Nelebek in fear. In order to gain total control he must kill the Krigers, all twelve of them, together. But, when number twelve is found it's identity is a huge surprise to everyone and leaves Morlet scratching his head. Once again, Jennifer Anne Davis has given us an amazing book. This is a wonderful start to a new series. The book follows the story of Kaia, a 16 year old girl who discovers she's a Kriger--a warrior with magical powers--and the fate of the kingdom rests on her shoulders. Filled with wild creatures, an assassin, romance, and tons of adventure, this story is fantastic. I can't wait to read the next book!

Kaia is what I call the definition of a badass-- a genuine role model for girl power.
I really enjoyed this book and the whole plot!
Kaia is the twelfth Kriger who is being hunted down by the evil king called Morlet.

As the story progresses as Kaia meets an assassin along the way and learns much more about Kriger and Morlets quarrel that's taking place around her.

In overall, this story was amazing, thrilling, and bad ass!
I am eager for next book ~:)

Amazing! This book had me at the prologue! Everything about this book was awesome from the descriptions of the scenery, the characters personalities, the plot, the writing, the twists and turns, ugh, everything! I was held captive reading it! I didn’t want it to end! If I could give it 10 stars I would!

The story has a romance but with a twist in that there is an obvious choice who she should be with but the author teases you into can or will she or won’t she go for this other character or two! I

I received this book as part of the Early Reviewers program. As I've often received sub-par books, I was somewhat sceptical about this book as well. Turns out I was wrong, to some extent at least.

While "Rise" does have quite a few deus-ex-machina moments (a certain rescue comes to mind), even some (more or less) glaring plot holes (what are the "apparitions" during a trial of our heroine, are some of them actually there, etc. etc.?) and some "why did she do *that* now?!" moments, this bo
