Mcgraw-Hill Series in Mechanical Engineering

Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design

Rate this book
The eighth edition of Shigley's Mechanical Engineering Design maintains the basic approaches that have made this book the standard in machine design for over 40 years. At the same time it combines the straightforward focus on fundamentals instructors have come to expect with a modern emphasis on design and new applications. Overall coverage of basic concepts are clear and concise so that readers can easily navigate key topics. This edition includes a new case study to help illuminate the complexities of shafts and axles and a new finite elements chapter. Problem sets have been improved, with new problems added to help students progressively work through them. The book website includes ARIS, which is a homework management system that will have 90 algorithmic problems.

This book is surprisingly good for mechanical engineers/machinists/ hobbyist makers.

It is a really thick book with tons of in-depth theoretical and practical knowledge. It even has end-of-chapter exercises for god sake!

If you are really serious about designing mechanical systems, this is a must. I wish I had read this earlier.

I read this when I was a student - I was able to keep ahead of the class by reading the topic ahead of time. It's a really good professional book, and has a lot of knowledge and tables that most engineering designers wont know about unless they've read this. My favourite textbook.

A very useful book for engineers!
But advanced problem solving is needed which i had some difficulty with. But the information provided is top notch!

I am taking this course as it requested from my university to complete my BS degree. It is really intersting and powerful book. To whom concern with Machine Design, I suggest this book to build your knowledge in this subject.
