Book 1 of the Nereidan Compatibility Program Series
Jake Morrison's Tuesday night was supposed to be boring. Pizza, Netflix, and maybe texting his fitness influencer ex-boyfriend to turn down the volume on his upstairs workout routine.
What he didn't expect was to be yanked off his couch by a blue light and deposited in front of a very naked, very confused alien who was definitely expecting someone else.
Meet Zeph'hai, Nereidan researcher and owner of the galaxy's worst pickup technique. His people need compatible partners to survive, and their extensive research indicated that Derek Cross (Jake's Instagram-famous ex) was the perfect candidate. Unfortunately, alien intel gathered from Instagram and "educational videos" isn't exactly reliable.
Now Jake's stuck on an alien ship for 72 hours with a gorgeous blue alien who glows when he's turned on, thinks pancakes are construction material, and has clearly never heard of personal boundaries. The empathic connection forming between them is just a bonus side effect. Right?
But when Jake discovers this isn't just alien speed dating but a one-shot chance at permanent interspecies partnership, everything changes. Because falling for your accidental abductor is complicated enough without adding species survival, cultural exchange, and the fact that Derek's still getting his own alien assessment.
Some mistakes are worth making. Some accidents change everything. And some connections are worth risking everything for.
A steamy sci-fi romance featuring mistaken identity, bioluminescent aliens, size differences, empathic bonding, and the revolutionary concept that food should taste good. Low angst, high heat, with a guaranteed HEA and series setup.
Alien abduction • Mistaken identity • Forced proximity • Size difference • Bioluminescent alien • Empathic bond • Fish out of water • Only one chance at love • Domestic intimacy
Caitlin was fortunate growing up to be surrounded by family and teachers that encouraged her love of reading. She has always been a voracious reader and that love of the written word easily morphed into a passion for writing. If she isn't writing, she can usually be found studying as she works toward her counseling degree. She comes from a military family and the men and women of the armed forces are close to her heart. She also enjoys gardening and horseback riding in the Colorado Rockies where she calls home with her wonderful fiance and their dog. Her belief that there is no one true path to happily ever after runs deeply through all of her stories.
Zeph’s people, the Nereidans, are looking for partners to survive, and have found their perfect specimen in Derek Cross, Jake’s ex boyfriend.
Only when they show up to abduct him, they have some outdated information about his location, and accidentally grab Jake instead.
For the next 72 hours, Jake cohabitates and is observed by his alien companion, Zeph, as part of a research study for compatibility between their species.
What’s unexpected is the chemistry that sparks between them, and things soon go beyond just a research analysis as the pair have a genuine connection.
For how insta love this was, I actually found this cute? Doesn’t hurt Jake and Zeph were honestly pretty adorable.
Almost no worldbuilding, or much to the aliens-as-a-species other than tall, glowing, and big dicks, but the story was also sweet, so... I didn’t DNF 🤷♀️
Did I skim a lot, skip reading most of the nothing-new-to-see-here sex, and get impatient with all the repetitive yammering? Yes.
But did I also stick it out to the end for the devotion and bonding "aww" factor? Also yes. 😊
I can't say I'd actually recommend this one, but I'll still probably dip back into the series to pass the time while I wait for some anticipated releases on my TBR to drop 🤣
I'm almost afraid to suggest this since I have been reading books by this author for more than 15 years now. But the main character's name in this one. It raises a major red flag for me after spending some time watching sci-fi videos on YouTube, most of which are written by AI. The name for the human main character in this book, is recently a name used a lot for male characters in those stories.
This book is about an interstellar love connection, an interplanetary romance. Or how about I’m in love with someone from a different planet. Yes, as in not from Earth.
(Personally, to even imagine that humans are the only existence of life in the entire universe is… well, sad. THIS CAN'T BE IT..)
OK,
ZEPH & EVERYONE FROM HIS PLANET IS DYING. THEY NEED ANOTHER COMPATIBLE EXISTENCE TO COMMINGLE, CROSS-POLLINATE, TO MATE, YES, TO HAVE SEXUAL INTERCOURSE. SO, JAKE WAS LITERALLY BEAMED ABOARD ZEPH'S SPACE CRAFT FOR A 3-DAY, 72-HOUR TRIAL PERIOD TO SEE IF THESE 2 SPECIES ARE COMPATIBLE. EXCEPT JAKE WAS NOT THE INTENDED TARGET FOR THIS SURVIVOR EXPERIMENT. LET'S SAY ZEPH WAS SO LUCKY WHEN CHOOSING TO KEEP JAKE & NOT IMMEDIATELY RETURNED HIM TO EARTH. ZEPH WAS TOLD ALL HUMANS ARE THE SAME. OMG. WAIT UNTIL YOU READ WHERE ZEPH'S LEADERS OBTAINED THEIR INFORMATION ON US, HUMANS BUT LET'S JUST SAY TOO FUNNY & ACTUALLY EXTREMELY ACCURATE.
SO THE 3-DAY SCIENTIFIC PROTOCOL BEGINS. AND ZEPH IS SHOCKED ON HOW WILLING TO CHANGE & OPEN TO LITERALLY EVERYTHING JAKE SEEMS TO BE. OH, I LOVED HOW JAKE REACTED TO THIS SLIGHTLY BLUE IN COLOR, MASSIVE IN SIZE, IN HEIGHT & HUGE ENDOWMENT. YES, HE IS EXTREMELY HUGE IN LENGTH & GIRTH.. ZEPH WAS NAKED WHEN JAKE WAS BEEMED ABOARD THE SPACECRAFT. HELLO.. CAN YOU IMAGINE.. INTERSTELLAR BOOTY CALL.. LOL
THE SCIENTIFIC EXPERIENCE BEGINS..
AND WOW, WHAT A 72-HOUR BONDING LOVE FEST.
ONLY PROBLEM, LIKE EVERYTHING WITH AN EXPIRATION DATE, IT ENDS. BUT WHAT HAPPENS WHEN IT ENDS & THE ONE YOU FELL IN LOVE WITH LIVES FARTHER THAN YOU COULD IMAGINE. IN ANOTHER GALAXY, LIGHT YEARS AWAY.
EXCEPT YOU & ZEPH WANT MORE, NEITHER WANT IT TO END OR HAVE ANYTHING WITHOUT EACH OTHER IN IT. SO NOW WHAT?
LOVED, LOVED, LOVED THIS BOOK. & THERE IS BOOK 2..
OK read but lots of missing info. Jake seems to be a hollow character; we don't know much about him except that his ex lives above him, he hates his job as a barista and that's it. We don't know what he looks like, where his family is or why he is always so snarky! Jake also accepts his abduction way too easily, after a few days he's ready to abandon everything he knows. Zeph is a researcher that's been selected to evaluate humans for their compatibility as mates. He's smitten with Jake right away and his bioluminescence is pretty cool. But I wanted more details about how he got to Earth, there's no mention of a ship, how they transport Jake or how they get back to his planet. I also don't like that he gets bullied by his brother.
-not very fleshed out - worldbuilding was semi-interesting but had some holes -insta-love but for seemingly no reason -writing was not stellar (VERY repetitive structurally, sometimes hard to follow exactly what was happening, sometimes poor explanations for things) -the conflict w Zeph's brother was weird, like it didn't really make sense why he was so determined to oppose him esp when the elders were on board -I liked the ending, very The Giver (the movie @ least...still have not read the book so sorry)
ultimately pretty meh HOWEVER....still probably gonna read the second one bc I gotta see how that goes down
3.75⭐️ A short, sweet, and spicy alien abduction MM romance story. This was probably my one of the most wholesome alien abduction romances I’ve ever read. Jake is so chill about his abduction, and his alien abductor, Zeph, can best be described as bashful. 😂 Zeph abducts Jake as a trial for a compatibility program, which ends up working much better than anticipated.
This book has: -alien x human -insta-love -emotional / empathetic connection -pancakes as love language -a big, blue, bioluminescent alien
This book was simple but sweet. It’s a great read for a quick alien romance if you want something easy, sweet, and spicy!
𝓐𝓬𝓬𝓲𝓭𝓮𝓷𝓽𝓪𝓵𝓵𝔂 𝓐𝓫𝓭𝓾𝓬𝓽𝓮𝓭 𝓫𝔂 𝓒𝓪𝓲𝓽𝓵𝓲𝓷 𝓡𝓲𝓬𝓬𝓲 𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: ⭐️⭐️ - It had more potential 𝐒𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐞: 🌶 - Could have had more potential 𝐆𝐨𝐚𝐥: 114//12
This book had so much for potential than the author did. This was already a short story at 179 pages. The book could have been significantly shorter, but the author decided to repeat themselves multiple times - some in different ways and some the exact same way just at different times.
I loved the idea of an alien abduction that acts as a dating simulation because I'm a fan of many TV shows. But this went downhill fast. I 100% finished this as a petty read.
This book has: 🌑 MM 🌑 Aliens 🌑 3-day insta love/lust
It was a quick sweet read. Wish there was more - more in-depth detailed misunderstandings about the human world (for humor), more struggle in accepting/adapting for both, more tension and drama about Zeph’s people’s situation (like why, what have they already done, etc). It was just too easy. I may read the next book since the brother is the opposite of Zeph. But again, I think it’sweet summer light read and I was definitely in the mood for it.
Lovely and original! Zeph and Jake are beautiful together! The openness and acceptance that Jake shows through sarcasm and humor is refreshing. I mean, how would you react to being abducted? And the gentleness of Zeph is sexy as hell!😏 Caitlin Ricci has created a mindset of cultural differences that are positives instead of fear.😁 Adaptation and vulnerability. So very sexy!!! 😘 I highly recommend joining this experiment!!!😋
1/5. Pretty fucking positive this is the second AI book I’ve found in a row, third I absolutely just… I’m so tired. It should be fucking internationally required to state that something was made using AI technologies. Books, covers, whatever. If this wasn’t AI, then someone get this author a damn editor who can point out repetitive content and help guide the author in the eradication of that shit. I need y’all to be so fucking for real with me right now. What the fuck.
Cute and Fluffy. Likable mc’s and no angst. Interesting aliens with emotional bioluminescence response. I loved the accidental abduction trope, but the world building seemed light. This was not mpreg so how male/ male species compatibility will help the low/ dying alien population is unclear.
I’m no expert but I’m fairly sure this was written by AI. DNF at 50%. Disappointed because I really liked the premise of the book but the plot was all over the place, lots of repeated text and moments. Timeline was everywhere too. Often giving no idea as to where they were or what time passed.
This was a very sweet story with an interesting premise! The author does a great job of world-building, especially considering the shorter length of the book. However, there were a lot of instances of the author repeating themselves. A good bit of the text could have been cut, and ideally replaced to further /show/ and develop the feelings and dynamic between the MCs.
I’m not usually a huge fan of novella but I this book intrigued me so I took a chance, and it is adorable. I love these two together. They’re so sweet and kind and understanding and considerate and I got emotionally invested immediately. It also has some very good spice so enjoy. :)
Loved how different the aliens were described and their world. The empathetic bond was new and made sexy times a bit more sizzling. And my heart was aching for both of them when their time was up, and Jack was returned to earth. So happy with the HEA.
After having two books I dnfed bc I was just not having fun I needed fun. And this was alright. I have a soft spot for the “not enough time” troupe I fear bc the heartache in this was good for me
Such a fun, fast read! Our MMC, Jake, is so fucking funny. He’s sarcastic ass laughs at the face of an alien. Zeph is a sweet, clueless alien who doesn’t know a thing about humans. Their interactions were both very wholesome and steamy!
I just found it boring and everything was a little too perfect and not a lot going on except an alien with a giant dong, I got to about 30% and it was just meh.
3.5 stars. I like the idea of the compatibility program. It was feeling kinda instalove-y for a second, but I think enough development between Zeph and Jake was done to pull it off well.
Y’all this book has no right to be so good! Anyone who dares not let them travel the galaxy together and spend their evenings floating in their pool has personal BEEF WITH ME!!!
This is mostly alien/human erotica with a thin storyline to bring the two of them together. Several very descriptive sex scenes, with a bit of a story.
This was actually kinda cute. And smutty which I love. I love how the aliens glow when they feel strong emotions. I can't rate this higher though because the editing is, well, not great.
